2 Features Features Your RadioShack MIDI Keyboard is a state- of-the-art keyboard with man y exciting fea- tures. You can set the keyboard to sound like 50 different musical instruments. To accom- pany your music, th e keyboard has 30 rhythms, as well as au to accompaniments and percussion sounds.
3 Preparation Preparation To connect a MIDI device to your keyboard, see “Making the MIDI Co nnections” on Page 12. CONNECTING POWER You can power your keyboard in any of these ways: • inter.
4 Preparation before you disconnect it from the key- board. 1. Slide POWER to OFF . 2. Set the AC or DC adapter ’s voltage switch to 9V . 3. Insert the Ad aptaplug adapter into th e adapter ’s cord so it reads + TIP . 4. Connect th e AC or DC adapter ’s bar- rel plug to the DC 9V jack on the back of the key- board.
5 A Quick Look at Your Keyboard A Quick Look at Y our Keyboard Operation BASIC OPERATION 1. T o turn on the ke yboard, set POWER to ON . The POWER indicator lights. Important: T o prevent hearing damage, always set the keyboard’ s volume to its lowest level before you begin playi ng it after changing any settings.
6 Operation 3. Repeatedly pre ss VOLUME UP or VOL- UME DOWN to increase or decrease th e volume. Notes: • The keyboard’s volume ranges from 0 (no sound) to 10 (maximu m), and the current volume level appears on the display . Each time you turn on th e keyboard, the volume is set to 6.
7 Operation USING THE PRESET T ONES Your keyboard can sound like 50 differ ent musical instruments. The na me and two-digit number for each preset tone is li sted on the TONES list on the keyboard’ s top panel. Note: The keyboard has 8-note (maximum) polyphonic sound.
8 Operation • T o reset the tempo to its d efault (ori g- inal) speed, press TEMPO UP and TEMPO DOWN at the same time . 6. Play the keyboard al ong with the auto- rhythm. 7. T o select a differ ent rhythm, repea t Steps 1 and 2. 8. T o stop the au to-rhythm, pr ess ST ART/ STOP again.
9 Operation Or , to synchronize the start of the selected auto-rhythm with your accom- paniment, press SYNC/FI LL-IN . 6. Begin the accomp animent at the desired interval by pressing the desired accom- paniment key(s). T o play a melody along with th e accom- paniment, press any key(s) to the right of the accompaniment keys.
10 Special Features 1. Press SONG , then repeated ly press LEARNING until black dots appe ar next to 21 ( .(< on the left side of the display . 2. Select a tone from the SONGS list and enter its two-digit nu mber on the key- pad. Or , you can press – or + to move to the next higher or lower numbered tune.
11 Special Features 4. Press TON E . The preset ton e that matches the selected auto-rhythm appears. To quit one-touch settin g, press O.T .S. 27 6 disappears. USING SUSTAIN For added flexibi lity and co ntrol as you make music, you can set the keyboard so it sus- tains sound.
12 Using MIDI Usin g MIDI Your keyboard includes a feature called MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interfa ce). MIDI is the universal standard for sendin g and re- ceiving performance data between all types of electronic musical instruments, regard- less of the manufact ur er.
13 Troubleshooting 1. Use a MIDI cable to connect MIDI OUT on the back of the keyboard to the other device’ s MIDI IN terminal. 2. Repeatedly pre ss MIDI to select a MIDI channel. MIDI uses up to 16 ch annels to exchange data. As in a TV broadcast, different channels send different data.
