12 CAMCORDER CO NNECTIONS Your VCR ha s jacks on its front panel that let you easily connect a cam corder or other video source. You can also connect a camcorder to the R-AUDIO-L AUDIO IN 1 and VIDEO IN 1 jacks on the ba ck panel of your V CR.
13 VCR SET UP SETTI NG THE VCR’ S OUTPUT CHANNEL SWITCH If you connected the VCR’s O U T TO TV termi- nal to a TV or another VCR, set 3- CH-4 on the back of t h e VCR to 3 or 4 , whichever is not an active channel in your area.
14 INITIAL SET UP Sett ing th e On -Screen Lan guage/ Channels/Clo ck When you first plug in t he VCR and turn it on, when yo u turn it on after p ower was inte rrupted for longer than 24 hours , or when you reset t he VCR’s memory, the VCR prompts you to select a language, then scans for act ive chan nels in your are a and s tores t hem.
15 If the VCR does not detect an ED S signal w i t h i n th is time, AUT O CLOCK SET INCO MP LET E appears. Th ere i s prob a- bly not an ED S signal available in your area. Pres s MENU/ACTION , then s ee “Man- ually Setting the Clock” to set the clock.

Note: If you are usi ng a TV/mon it o r con nected to th e VC R ’ s R- AUDIO-L/VIDEO OUT jacks, be sure to s e t t he TV /monito r to its TV m ode.

25 T APE MOT ION CONT ROLS Fast- Forwa rd/Rewind an d V isual Sear ch While a tape is sto pped, press FA S T - F to ad- vance the t ape qu ickly or REW t o r e wi n d it . Y o u cannot see t he picture or he ar sound when y ou use fast-forward or rewind, but y ou can use the counter t o locate a specific s ection of t ape.
26 The count er resets to 0 :00 :0 0 whe n you put in a new tape. To manually reset the counter, press COUNTER RESET . Note: T he real-time co unter might stop if you fast-forward or rewind through a bla nk section on the tape.

28 SKIPPING /SELECTING PREVIEWS (MOD EL 65 ONLY) Your VCR’s M ovie A dvance feature le ts you skip the previews at the beginning of many pur- chased or rented mo vies, or select a s pecific preview to wat ch. 29 USING INDEX SEARCH Your VCR has the VHS Index Search Sys t em. Each time you start recording , the VCR auto- matically marks the t ape with an index mark at that location. You can lo cate the recording you want to play or skip the recordi ng(s) you don’t want to watc h b y ei ther ent ering the num ber of index marks or b y scanning.

31 5. P ress PLA Y t o start repeat playback. REP appears. The VCR repeats playback from the beginning to the end of the tape, or to the fi rst unrecorded portion that is at least 30 s eco nds lon g. AU TO REPE AT appears while the VCR rewin ds the tape to the beginnin g.
32 Notes: • Y ou might need to slightly readjust tracking for each tape y ou play . • If the sound of a recordi ng m ade on another VHS Hi-Fi VCR is poor (and Hi- Fi does not appea r ), you m ight be able to improve it by a djusting the tracking .
33 RECORDING There are three ways to record using your VCR: • Imm ediate recordi ng — to record a broa d- cast as you watch it or record on e program on the VCR whil e you watch anot her on the T V . • A utomatic tim er recording — to record a broadcast at a time y ou set.
34 SELECTI NG THE SIGNAL TO RECORD You can select the s igna l to record — f rom the IN FROM ANT . jack o r an audi o/ vide o source — in either o f these ways. • R epeatedl y press INPU T until the desired input source app ears — LINE 1 or LINE 2 for an a udio/video source, or a channel number for broadcast signals.
35 Notes: • T o ensure that you record the entire pr o- gram, set the recording length long er than the program lengt h. • T o display the rem aini ng reco rdi ng time , pr es s DISP/ ENT dur ing a ti m ed r ecord ing. • T o temp orarily stop the tape d uring a recording, press P AUSE .
36 Set tin g a Timer Note: If you use a TV/monitor that is con nected to the VCR’s R-AUDIO-L/VIDEO OUT jacks, set the TV/monitor to its video mode an d skip Steps 2 and 3. 1. Turn on the V CR an d the TV . 2. S et the TV to t he same c hanne l as 3-CH-4 on the back of the VCR.
37 To record a broadcast at a specific time and date , repeatedly press or to select the specific date. Press to store your selection. 9. Repeat edly press or hold down or to select t he start hour. When t he correct hour appears , press . Then repea tedly press or t o select t he minute and press .
38 3. P ress PROG . The first four t imer settings appea r . 4. Repeat edly press or to select the setting you wan t to cha nge, then press . 5. Fol low Steps 8–1 3 under “Setting a T imer” on Page 36 to correct the selected setting. 6. When y ou finish, press PROG a gain, then turn off the VCR.
39 AUDIO-ONLY RECORDING Because of the superior quality of VHS Hi-Fi audio recordi ngs, you m ight want to us e your VCR as an audio-onl y recorder. You can also make live recordings by connecting a pre- amplifier or mixer to the VCR’s R-AUDIO-L IN 1 jacks.
