4 PREPARATION Plug ’N Power co ntrol lers, su ch as yo ur Mini Remote Con- trol Cen ter send out high-fr equency s ignals thro ugh yo ur househ old ’s w iri ng sy st em . Th e Pl ug ’N Power modul es (no t includ ed) receive th e controller’ s signa ls and turn the co n- nected lights or appli ances on or off.
5 Two differen t type s of cod es — h ouse c odes and unit codes — allow you to cont rol many diff erent module s or groups of m odules w ithin your home. It is i mportant th at you unde rsta nd how t hese codes a re used before you se t up your syste m.
6 UNIT CODES In each Plug ’N Power sys tem, you ca n operate up to 16 di fferent m odules or groups o f module s. Set UNIT CODE to the desired co de ( 1 – 16 ). The controlle r lets you inde pende ntly cont rol eac h grou p of modules that you set t o the sam e uni t code.
7 INSTALLATI ON SETTING UP THE C ONTROL CENTER Because the Mini Re mote Control Ce nter contr ols th e modules through your ex ist- ing house wirin g, set up of th e controller is easy. Pl ug the controller ’s AC cord into a convenie nt AC outlet, the n set HOUSE CODE to any on e of the 16 hous e codes ( A thr ough P ).
8 Appliance M odules — These modu les are de sig ne d to c ontr ol sma ll ap pl ian ce s that dr aw up to 500 W of po wer and have a two- pro ng, po lari zed AC pl ug. You can also u se appli ance mod ules to contr ol resist ive-lo ad motors r ated at 15 amps , 1 / 3 hors epower.
9 Lamp Dimmer M odules — Th ese m od- ules are desi gned to c ontrol la mps, an d can be di mmed from the contro ller. You can conn ect u p to 300 W of i ncand escent lighting to th ese mo dules. Lam p dimmer modules respon d to th e control ler’s AL L LIGHTS ON comm and.

11 Wall Outl et Modul es — Thes e modu les co mp let ely rep lac e existing wall outlet s, but you control on ly one of a modu le’s receptacl es from your c ontroller. Th e other rec eptacle is al- ways on. You can c o nnec t app lianc es t hat dr aw a t otal of up to 1800 W to an outle t modul e.
12 • Low-vo ltage elec tricity flow s through the circui t con- trolled by a switch mo dule, even w hen the swi tch is of f. This i s nece ssary for prop er op eration o f the switc h module . Y ou c an compl etely turn off t he elec tricity by setting the swi tch’s disabl e switc h to of f (left).
13 CONNECTING LIGHT S OR APPLIANCES TO M ODULES Caution: Before yo u con- nect any li ght or ap pliance to a module , press ALL UNI TS OF F . This as sures that all of the modu les are powered o ff.
14 OPERATION Operati on of a Plug ’N Powe r system is simple, but be sure that you have a complete chart o f your sys tem clos e by so you know ex actly wh at you are con trolling. See the “Plug ’N Power Syste m Chart” on Page 24. Note: Each swi tch on your co ntrolle r performs two fun ctions — ON or OFF , BRIGHT or DIM , and so on.
15 1. Set the min i contro ller’s sele ctor switc h to the desir ed unit code range ( 1 – 4 or 5 – 8 ). 2. T o turn on all th e dev ices co nnecte d to modu les w ith the same un it code settin g, press ON for the desire d unit code switch ( 1 / 5 , 2 / 6 , 3 / 7 , or 4 / 8 ).

In fact , modules set to u nit co des 9 – 16 resp ond to ALL LIG HT S ON even though you r mini c ontrol ler cannot i ndepen dently control m odule s set to uni t codes abov e 8 .
17 DIMMING LIGHTS You can dim any lights that are connecte d to lamp di mmer modul es. 1. Set the min i contro ller’s sele ctor switc h to the desir ed unit code range ( 1 – 4 or 5 – 8 ). 2. Press the ON switch for the un it code of the lam p dim- mer mo dules yo u want to dim ( 1 / 5 , 2 / 6 , 3 / 7 , or 4 / 8 ).

19 INTERCOM INTERFE RENCE Some interc oms al so se nd sign als th rough the house wirin g. If you hav e this t ype o f system , it is l ikely t hat it will in terfere with the operati on of your Plu g ’N Power system .
20 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS • Do not attemp t to cont rol light s or app lianc es that ex - ceed the rati ngs of the modu les. If you want to contro l applian ces th at exc eed the ratings of th e stand ard mod- ules, a sk yo ur Radio Shack sa lespe rson fo r assist ance.
21 • The swit ch and outlet modul es require direct conne c- tion to your ho use wiri ng. If you are n ot familia r with typ- ical hous e wirin g inst allati ons, we suggest that yo u have these types of modules profess ionally installed .
22 T ROUBLESHOOT ING If your M ini Rem ote Con trol Cent er is not wor king a s it should , the se sug gesti ons mi gh t hel p el im in ate t he pr obl em . If the contro ller still do es n ot operat e prop erly, ta ke i t to yo ur local R adioS hack st ore for a ssistan ce.
23 None of the modules respond to th e co ntro ller. Be sure t he controller is plugged into an AC outlet . Be sure the controller is set to the same house code as the modules. T ry plugging the light or appli- ance into a dif ferent AC outlet with the module in the same outlet.
