24 Chapter 1 Prin ter Overv iew Line Matrix Printing Your pr inter is a n impact printer ; it crea tes character s by pri nting ink do ts on paper. The dots a re printed on an inv isible matri x mapped i n printer memory (see Figure 2). Dot impre ssions are m ade by an array of s teel hamm ers mounted on a rapidl y oscill ating shu ttle.

26 Chapter 1 Network Inte rface Card (N IC) Network Interface Card (NIC) Network I nterface Card (NIC) a llows you to attach printers on a loca l area network (LA N) rather th an attac hing them di rectly to a ho st syst em.

29 2 Downloading Function Code In P5000LJ Series Printers Introduction Downloadi ng the fu nction code is equi valent to updatin g firmware in the printer.
30 Chapter 2 Introduction Prep ara tion For Downloading There ar e several function c ode file s availabl e for the P5000LJ p rinters. Th e file you use depen ds on the printer em ulatio n in use. To verify what func tion code is alread y installe d, obser ve the co ntrol panel display when the p rinter is online.
