GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instruc- tions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in str uc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , to ys, wire, etc.

9 CHECK B A TTER Y 1. Lift seat pan to raised position. NO TE: If this batter y is put into ser vice after month and year indicated on label (label located between terminals) charge batter y f or minimum of one hour at 6-10 amps. (See "BA TTER Y" in Maintenance section of this manual f or charging instr uc- tions).
10 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov er in - fl ated at the f actor y f or shipping pur pos es. Correct tire pressure is impor tant for best cutting perf or mance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this manual.

13 T O ADJUST MO WER CUTTING HEIGHT The position of the attachment lift le ver deter mines the cutting height. • Grasp lift le ver . • Press plunger with thumb and mov e le ver to desired position. The cutting height range is ap prox i- mate ly 1-1/2 to 4".

15 CA UTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or metha- nol) can attract moisture which leads to separation and f or ma tion of acids dur ing storage . Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage . T o av oid engine problems , the fuel system should be emptied bef ore stor age of 30 da ys or longer .

18 CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to pre vent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stub- bor n dried gum fi bers . V -BEL TS Check V -belts f or deter ioration and w ear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessar y .
19 MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could cre- ate a fi re hazard and/or dam age. SP ARK PLUG(S) Replace spark plug(s) at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

24 REPLA CING BA TTER Y W ARNING: Do not shor t bat ter y ter- mi nals by al low ing a wrench or any other object to contact both ter minals at the same time. Before con nect ing batter y , re- mov e metal bracelets, wrist watch bands , rings, etc. P ositiv e ter minal must be connected fi rst to pre v ent spark ing from ac ci den tal grounding.
25 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for stor- age at the end of the season or if the trac- tor will not be used f or 30 days or more . W ARNING: Nev er store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes ma y reach an open fl ame or spark.
