11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the ey es, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Alwa ys wear safety glass es or ey e shields while operating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repair s.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 8) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to lea ve the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
13 OPERA TION ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane . (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce va lve lif e).
14 MULCHING MO WING TIPS IMPORT ANT : FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUIL T -UP GRASS AND TRASH. CLEAN AFTER EA CH USE. • The spe cial mulch ing blade will recut the gr ass clip- pings many times and reduce them in size so that as they f all onto the lawn they will disperse into the g rass and not be noticed.

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 11) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to bla d es . • Remov e blade bolt, lock washer and fl at was he r s e cur ing bla de. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
17 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . FIG. 13 NO TE: The original equipment batter y on your tractor is maintenance free.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.

Al ways wear e ye pr o tec tion when around batteries. If your battery is too weak to star t the engine, it should be recharged.
23 REPLA CING BA TTER Y (See Figs. 28 and 29) W ARNING: Do not short batter y ter- mi nals by allowing a wrench or an y other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connect- ing battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
