Getting Started with Y our Phone 1 - 7 Information Status The top line of the screen (or gr aphic display) shows status information. It scrolls verticall y if there is more than one message. The information bar also shows items such as time and date, do not disturb (shown below), and missed calls.

In this case, your system administrator wi ll configure the phone parameters beforehand, so that once it is set up, it will be r egistered and ready to use.
Getting Started with Y our Phone 1 - 9 2 In the Address Bar of your Web Browser, enter the IP address of your phone. The IP address is four sets of numbers separated by periods. For example, if your phone’s IP addr ess is 123.22.3.4, enter 123.22.3.

2 - 1 2 Customizing Y our Phone You can customize your Polycom® So undPoint IP 670 desktop phone by adjusting settings such as: time and da te, display contrast, and ring type. You can add contacts to the phone’s directory manually or from call lists.

Changing the Audible Ringer The SoundPoint IP 670 phone can play th e audible ringer of an incoming call through any of its alerting destinations : the speaker, the handset, the headset (if enabled), or the active destination.
Customizing Y our Phone 2 - 9 Changing the Language The SoundPoint IP 670 phone supports many languages. T o change the language: 1. Press . 2. Select Settings > Basic > Preferences > Language .

A default background displays when th e phone starts up (shown below). For more information on selections, contact your system administrator.

3 - 1 3 Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone Your Polycom® SoundPoint IP 670 deskto p phone is designed to be used like a regular phone on a public switched telephone network (PSTN). You call place a call, transfer a call to someone else, or conduct a conference call.

Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone 3 - 9 Hosting Conference Calls You can create a conference with other parties using the phone’s local conference feature. You can create a c onf erence at any time between an active call and a call on hold (on the same or another line) by pressing the Join soft key.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 3 - 10 2. Press or the Confrnc soft key to create a new call. The active call is placed on hold. 3. Call the second party. 4. When the second party answers, press or the Confrnc so ft key again to join all parties in the conference.
Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone 3 - 11 6. Call the third party. 7. After the third party answers, press or the press the More soft key followed by the Confrnc soft key to join al l parties in the conference. A conference similar to this one will now exist.

Press the More soft key to see the Remove , Info , and Exit so ft keys. 2. Do one of the following: — To add a new party, press the Add soft ke y.
Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone 3 - 13 — To mute a party, select the party, then press the Far Mute soft ke y. The muted party can hear a ll partie s, but no party can hear the muted party. If you press instead of the Far Mute soft key, all other partie s can hear each other, but they cannot hear you.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 3 - 14 — To place a party on hold, select the party, and then press the Hold soft key. The held party cannot hear any parties and no party can hear the held party. Press the Resume soft key to return the party to the conference.
Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone 3 - 15 T o add a par ty to a conference call using the Join soft key: 1. From the Manage Conference page, press or the Hold soft key. The other parties in the conference call are placed on hold. 2. Press the New Call soft key.

Place a call to the desired re cipient of the call. Refer to Placing Calls on page 2-2 fo r calling methods.

User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 3 - 20 b If you selected No Answer , enter a number to forward all unanswered incoming calls to and how many ring s to wait before forwarding (one ring is approximately six seconds). A value of 2 is recommended.

Enter a number to forward the incoming call to. 3. Press the Enable soft key. The incoming call is forwarded to the other party.

Using the Basic Features of Y our Phone 3 - 25 Locking and Unlocking the Phone Lock your phone to: • Prevent unauthorized outgoing calls. • Allow only authorized people to answer calls. • Prevent people from viewing or modifying phone displays or information (for example, menus, directory lists, call records, and speed dial keys).

From the Change User Password screen, enter your password information and press the Ent er key. Locking and Unlocking Y our Phone You can choose how you want your phone to handle incoming calls when it is locked.

Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 3 Your phone can display two call appearances at one time. If more than two calls are taking place on the same line , a counter displays on the display. Use the down arrow to access addi ti onal calls, or call appearanc es.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 4 - 4 Managing Buddies Manage your buddies by sel ecting the contacts whose presence you want to monitor. These contacts form your buddy status list. You add contacts to your buddy status list from your contact directory.
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 5 Recording a Call If the Call Recording and Playback feature is available and you plug a removable USB flash drive into the USB port on your SoundPoin t IP 670 (shown below), you can record active calls on your phone.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 4 - 6 • When the phone prompts you to answer an inc oming call If you put an active ca ll on hold, recording pauses. Recording c ontinues if the called party puts you on hold. Recording stops if all active calls end, no matter who ends the calls.

If you press the Back soft key, you can access the top-le vel soft keys ( for example, Hold , En dCall , Trnsf er , and Confrnc ).
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 9 Pausing and Resuming Recording You can pause recording by pressing the Pause soft key. When you press the Resume soft key, record ing continues with the same .wav file. T o pause a record ing: >> Press the Pause soft key.

The filename you selected appears on the graphic display. The length of the file (in hours, minutes, and seconds) and the size of the file also appear.

When the call ends, the idle display appears. If you decide to reject th e incoming call, press the Resume soft key , and playback will resu me.

Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 17 3. To start the broadcast, press and hold the Talk soft key. (You need to press the Talk soft key throughout the entire broadcast.) You’ll hear a ‘transmitting’ beep, and then th e phone displays the channel you are using (‘To:Teachers (Channel 18)’, as shown next).
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 4 - 18 You’ll receive broadcasts on the channels you’re subscribed to as well as Channel 24 (the Priority channel) and Channel 25 (the Emergency channel). If you’ve enabled Do Not Dist urb on your phone, you’ll only receive Emergency broadcasts.
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 19 Ending PTT Broadcasts You can end a PTT broadcast by releasing the Talk so f t k e y , o r b y t a p p i n g t h e End PTT soft key. After you end a broadcast, the channel remains open so others can respond.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 4 - 20 T o update the default channel: 1. Press , then select Settings > Basic > Preferences > Paging/PTT Confi guration > PTT Push to Talk . 2. Press the Edit soft key. 3. Enter the new default channel.
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 21 T o allow or disallow PTT broadca sts to play during an active call: 1. Press , then select Settings > Basic > Preferences > Paging/PTT Confi guration > PTT Push to Talk .

From the Paging Groups List screen, sele ct the paging group to send the page to (as shown next). The list displays the def ault paging group, the most re cent group you paged, and other paging group that you can page.
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 23 Just before the page starts, you’ll he ar an alert tone, and then the page starts (as shown next). 4. Start talking. 5. To end the page, pre ss the End Page soft key. Receiving Pag es To receive a page sent to a particular paging group, you need to be subscribed to that group.
User Guide for the SoundPoint IP 670 Desktop Phone 4 - 24 • If your phone isn’t allowed to receive pages during active calls, the page displays as a Pending page. To listen to the page, select the page and press the Select soft key. Or, hold or end the call.

Updating Paging Group Subscriptions By de f au l t, y o u’ r e s ub s cr ib e d t o P a gi ng Groups 1, 24, and 25. This mean s that you can send pages to and receive pages sent to these groups.

The default setting is Disabled . When enabled, your phone will accept and play pages while you’re in an active call.
Using the Advanced Featu res of Y our Phone 4 - 27 2. Select Settings > Basic > Update Configur ation . “Are you sure?” appears on the screen. 3. If you still want to updat e the configuration, press the Yes soft key. The configuration is updated.
