Listening to your system 05 33 En Using Stream Direct Use the Stream Direct mo des when you want to hear the truest possible reproduct ion of a source. All unnecessary signal processing is bypassed, and you’re left with the pure analog or digital sound source (see Stream direct with different input signal formats on page 101).

If you already know the frequency of the station you want, see Tuning directly to a station below.

The System Setup menu 07 42 En • Standing Wave – Control overly resonant low frequencies in your listening room (see Standing Wave on page 43). The last two settings are spec ifically for cus tomi.
The System Setup menu 07 43 En Listen to the reference speaker and use it to measure the target channe l. From the listening posi tion, face the two speakers with your arms outstretched pointing at each speaker. Try to make the two tones sound as if they are arriving simulta neously at a pos ition slightly in front of you and between your arm span.
The System Setup menu 07 44 En Use / to select the channel. Use / to select the frequency and / to boost or cut the EQ. When you’re finish ed, go back to the top of the screen and use / to select the next channel. •T h e OVER! indicato r shows in the di splay if th e frequency adjustment is too drastic and might distort.
The System Setup menu 07 45 En • Reverberance of hig h vs. low frequencies – Depending on your r oom, you may find that lower frequencies seem overly reverberant compa red to higher frequencies (i. e. your room sounds ‘boom y’). This may result in a skewed frequency analysis if the measurement i s done too la te.
The System Setup menu 07 46 En 4 If you selected ‘ Reverb View ’, you can check the reverb characteristics for each channel. Press RETURN when you’re done. This appears according to the setting you chose in Reverb Measurement (step 3 on page 45).
The System Setup menu 07 47 En Checking MCACC preset data After you have completed Automatically setting up for surround sound (Auto MCACC) on page 10 or Automatic MCACC (Expert) o n page 38, you can check your calibrated settings using t he on-screen display.
The System Setup menu 07 48 En Manual speaker setup This receiver a llows you to make detailed se ttings to optimize the surround sound performance. Yo u only need to make these settings once (unless you chan ge the placement of your current speaker system or add n ew speakers).
The System Setup menu 07 49 En • SW – LFE signals and bass frequencies of channels set to SMALL are output from the subwoofer when YES is selected.
The System Setup menu 07 50 En Speaker Dista nce For good sound depth and sepa ration from your system, you need to specify the dista nce of your speakers fro m the listening position. The receiver can then add the proper delay needed for effective surround sou nd.
The System Setup menu 07 51 En 3 Specify the distance of your sur round back speakers from each other. • 0 – 1 ft – Surround speakers within 1 fo ot apart (best for THX surround sound). • > 1 – 4 ft – Surround speakers between 1 and 4 feet apart.
Other connections 08 52 En Chapter 8: Other connections Caution • Before making or changing the connections , swi tch off the power and disconnect the power co rd from the power outlet. Plugging in components should be th e last connection you make with your system.

Other connections 08 59 En Connecting the multichannel analog inputs For DVD Audio and SACD playback, you r DVD player may have 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 ch annel analog outputs (dep ending on whether your player supports surr ound back channels). 1 Make sure that the pl ayer is set to output multichannel analog a udio.
Other connections 08 60 En •U s e t h e SPEAKERS button on the f ront panel to select a speaker system setting. As mentioned above, if you h ave selected Normal , the button will simply switch your main speaker system (A) on or off.
Other connections 08 61 En Connecting additional amplifiers This receiver has mor e than enough power for any hom e use, but it’s possible to add ad ditional amplifie rs to every channel of your syste m using the pre-ou ts. Make the connections shown below to ad d amplifiers to power your speakers.
Other connections 08 62 En MULTI-ZONE listening options The following table shows what you can listen to in the sub zone: Basic MULTI-Z ONE setup ( ZONE 2 ) • Connect a separate amplifier to the ZONE 2 AUDIO OUT jacks and a TV monitor to the ZONE 2 VIDEO OUT jacks, both on the rear of this receiver.
Other connections 08 63 En 2P r e s s CONTROL . • When the re ceiver is on, 1 make sure that any operations for the sub zone are done while ZONE 2 shows in the display. If this is not showing, the front panel controls affect the main zone only. 3U s e t h e INPUT SELECTOR dial to select the source for the zone you have selected.
Other connections 08 64 En Switching compo nents on and off using the 12 volt trigge r You can connect com ponents in your system (such a s a screen or projector) to this receiver so that they switch on or off using 12 volt triggers when you select an input function.

Other Settings 10 72 En SR+ Setup for Pi oneer flat panel TVs Make the following settings if you have connected a Pioneer flat panel TV to this receiver using an SR+ cable. Note that the number of function settings available will depend on the flat panel TV you’ve con nected.
