3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Despite the measures t hat have been taken to make electronic flash equipment safe, it must be recogn ized that high volt ages and high temperatures do exist within the power supply / lighting unit. Certai n precautions must be observed in ha nd ling the unit.
4 PREPARATION AND BASICS Unpacking and Setup: Unpack all units carefully t o remove all parts from the carton (s). Do not discard or destroy the packing material until the equipment ha s been inspected, assembled, and all parts a ccounted for.

6 Circuit Protection: Circuit protection (fuse) automatica lly protects this appliance from excessive damage due to circuit or c omponent failure. Operation exceeding the rated c ycle of the appliance may cause the fuse to open. [Always replace fuse with same rating of fuse.
7 Modeling Light: The modeling light has t w o modes of operation: 1 . W i t h POWER s witch in MODEL/FLASH upper pos ition, the modeli ng lamp is ON. 2. With POWER swi tch in FLASH or center position, the modeling lamp i s OFF. [Note: With battery models the modeling lamp is disable d to conserve the available battery power.
8 Photocell/Slave: The built-in photoslave is operatio nal wh en the unit is ON. If you wish to disable the photoslave, plug in your SYNC cord. AKC160 and AKC320 Accessories: A large assortment of Photogeni c standard “Quick-Change” reflectors, umbrellas, grids, softboxe s, snoots, barndoors and cases are available.
9 OPERATION StudioMax III All Models Flashing Rate: The unit recharges quickly, as indicated by the READY light on the control panel. A quick series of flashes can be obtained within the l imits of the recharge time. C ontinuous rapi d flashing, ho wever, can overh eat and damage the flashtube and int ernal parts.

12 Color Temperature Consistent and Constant The problem: With the rare except ion of units costing many thousands of dollars, flash lighting pa cks, up to now, do not control the color temperature of the lig ht. The color temperature typically decreases by over 100 degrees Kelv in for every f-stop of po wer reduction.
