7 Getting started W all mount inst allation The telephone base comes r eady for tabl etop use. If you want t o mount your telephone on a wall, use the pr ovided wall mount brack et to c onnect with a standard dual-stud t elephone wall mounting plate.

14 T elephone settings Home ar ea code If you dial seven digits to mak e a local call (no ar ea code r equired), enter your area c ode into the telephone as the home ar ea code. When you r eceive a call from within your home ar ea code, the caller ID hist ory only displays the seven digits of the telephone number .
15 T elephone settings Use the answering system menu of a syst em handset to turn on or off the answering system, r ecor d your announcement, activate the call scr eening, change the number of rings, set the remot e access code and activat e the message alert tone.
16 T elephone settings T o delet e your announc ement: Follow st eps 1 through 4 in T o pl ay the curr ent announcement on page 15 to pla y the announcement. Press 3 during playback t o delete your r ecor ded announcement. The system announc es, “ Announcement deleted.
17 T elephone settings Call scr eening setup Y ou can choose whether incoming messages ar e played thr ough the speaker on the telephone base while they ar e being rec orded. T o change the settings: Press MENU/ SELE CT when in idle mode to enter the main menu.
18 T elephone settings Answering syst em set tings Remot e ac cess c ode T o access y our answering system r emotely fr om any touch-t one telephone, you need to enter a two-digit number (00-99). Unl ess you change it, the remote ac cess code is 19. T o change the r emote access c ode: Press MENU/ SELE CT when in idle mode to enter the main menu.
19 T elephone settings When the telephone is not in use, pr ess VOL UME on the telephone base to set the ring er volu me level (1 -5 ), or tur n the r inge r of f. A sample of the ringer sounds as you adjust the volume. The telephone base announc es, “Base ringer is off” when you set the volume to 0.
20 Making, answering and ending a call Making a call T o mak e a call: Press PHONE/ FLASH , then wait for the dial tone. -OR- Press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone, then wait for the dial tone.
21 T elephone operation Answering a call Press any dial pad k ey (known as Any K ey Answer) or PHONE/ FLASH . -OR- Press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone. Speak erphone During a call, press SPEAKER to switch between speakerphone and normal handset use.

28 Dir ect ory overview Dir ectory memory capacity The directory can st ore up t o 100 entries, with a maximum of 15 alphanumeric character s (including spaces) for the names and 30 digits for the tel ephone numbers. A convenient sear ch feature can help y ou find and dial numbers quickly (see T o sear ch b y name on page 31).

45 Answering system Options during playback When a message is playing, you can adjust the playback v olume, skip, repeat, or delete the message. When messages ar e playing on the tel ephone base: Press V OL UME to adjust the message playback volume (1-8).
