1 Install the telephone base cl ose to a telephone wall jack and an electrical outlet not contr olled by a wall switch. The tel ephone base can be placed on a flat surface or verticall y mounted on the wall (page 7). For optimum r ange and better r eception, place the tel ephone base in a central and open location.

7 Getting started W all mount installation The telephone base comes r eady for tablet op use. If you want to mount your telephone on a wall, use the pr ovided wall mount brack et to connect with a standard dual-stud t elephone wall mounting plate.
8 Getting started W all mount installation Plug the other end of the telephone line cor d into the telephone w all jack. Plug the large end of the base power adapt er into an electrical outlet not controll ed by a wall switch.

10 Menu overview Use the menu to change the telephone set tings. Press MENU/ SELE CT in idle mode (when the handset is not in use) to enter the main menu. Press DIR or CID to scroll until the > symbol is ne xt to the featur e you want to select. Press MENU /SELE CT to select or save the indicat ed item.

14 T elephone settings Home ar ea code If you dial seven digits to mak e a local call (no ar ea code requir ed), enter your area code int o the telephone as the home ar ea code. When you receiv e a call from within your home ar ea code, the caller ID history onl y displays the seven digits of the telephone number .
15 Making, answering and ending a call Making a call T o mak e a call: Press PHONE/ FLASH , then wait for the dial tone. -OR- Press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone, then wait for the dial tone.
16 T elephone operation Speak erphone During a call, press SPEAKER to switch between speakerphone and normal handset use. Press OFF/ CLEAR to hang up. NOT E : After installing the battery in the handset, the scr een may show LOW BAT T E RY . If you use the speak erphone at this time, the battery may bec ome depleted.
17 T elephone operation R edial The handset stores the 20 most r ecently called number s in the redial list. T o r eview numbers in the r edial list Press REDIAL/ P AUSE in idle mode. Press DIR or CID , or Press REDIAL/ P AUSE repeatedly t o scroll thr ough the 20 recently call ed numbers (up to 30 digits each).

19 T elephone operation Options while on calls V olume control While on a call, press DIR /VOL UME to increase or press CID /VOL UME to decr ease the listening volume.
20 T elephone operation T empor ary tone dialing If you have pulse (r otary) dialing service only , use this featur e to tempor arily switch fr om pulse to touch-tone dialing during a call. During a call, press T ONE . Butt ons pressed after this send touch-tone signals.
21 T elephone operation Options while on calls T o acc ess the r edial list while on a call: Press REDIAL/ P AUSE . The screen shows the number most recentl y called. If it is not the desired number , press DIR or CID to scroll to the desir ed one. Press MENU /SELE CT .
22 T elephone operation If you misplace the handset, use the handset locat or feature on the tel ephone base to find it. T o st art the paging tone: Press HANDSET L OCA TOR on the tel ephone base to start the paging tone on the handset for 60 sec onds.
23 Dir ectory ov erview Dir ectory memory capacity The direct ory can store up to 100 entries, with a ma ximum of 15 alphanumeric character s (including spaces) for the names and 30 digits for the tel ephone numbers. A convenient search featur e can help you find and dial numbers quickly (see T o sear ch by name on page 26).

25 Directory The first lett er of every word is capitaliz ed. The remaining lett ers in a word start as lower case let ters as shown in the character chart bel ow.

43 Appendix T r oubleshooting I cannot dial out. First try all the suggestions in the item I cannot get a dial t one on page 42. Make sur e you have a dial tone be fore dialing. The cor dless handset may take a sec ond or two to find the telephone base and pr oduce a dial tone.
44 Appendix T r oubleshooting Move the cor dless handset closer to the tel ephone base. Y ou might have moved out of range. Reset the tel ephone base. Unplug the electrical power . Wait for 15 sec onds then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute f or the cordless handset and telephone base to r eset.

46 Appendix T r oubleshooting Excessiv e background noise will cause a speak erphone to fade in and out. Try c ontrolling the back ground noise by turning off any audio devices near the speakerphone. Also, try t o avoid interrupting the person at the other end of the conversation while the per son is speaking.
47 Appendix T r oubleshooting If you subscribe to high-speed Internet servic e ( D S L - d i g i t a l s u b sc ri be r li ne ) through your t elephone line, you must install a DSL filt er between the telephone line cor d and the telephone wall jack (see T elephone base installa tion on page 4).
48 Appendix T r oubleshooting My caller ID isn’t working. Caller ID is a subscription service. Y ou must subscribe to this service from your telephone servic e provider for this f eature to work on your t elephone. Y our caller must be calling fr om an area that supports caller ID.
49 Appendix Make sur e to plug your USB telephone adapt er into a dedicated USB port on your computer . Do not plug it into a multiple port USB hub (USB splitt er) that is not powered. In a few rar e instances, the USB port on your comput er may not have enough power .
