Getting started 8 Bat t ery installation & char ging Install the batt ery as shown below. Once y ou have installed the bat tery , the screen indicates the bat tery status (see t able below). If necessary , place the handset in the telephone base or char ger to charge the bat tery .

Getting started 11 Install ation options 2. Connect the telephone line cor d and power adapter cor d to the jacks on the bottom of the t elephone base. Bundle the telephone c ord and power adapter cor d, and secure them with a twist tie. Plug the power adapter and telephone line into the w all outlets.

Untie the bundled telephone c ord and power adapter cor d, and make sur e that you unplug the power adapter and tel ephone line cord fr om the wall outlets befor e you begin.

47 Caller ID About caller ID This product supports caller ID servic es that most telephone service companies provide. Depending on your servic e subscription, you might see the caller’s number , or the caller’s name and number from the t elephone service pro vider after the first or sec ond ring.
48 Caller ID Caller ID hist ory How the caller ID his tory (call log) works The telephone stor es caller ID information about the last 50 inc oming calls in the telephone base. Entries ar e stored in r everse chronol ogical order . The phone deletes the oldest entry when the log is full t o make r oom for new calls.
49 Caller ID Caller ID oper ation Memory match If the incoming telephone number e xactly matches a t elephone number in your directory , the name that appear s on the screen matches the corr esponding name in your direct ory. For e xample, if Christine Smith calls, her name appears as Chris if this is how you enter ed it into your direct ory .

54 Caller ID R easons f or missing caller ID inf ormation There ar e also occasions when other information or no information shows f or various reasons: On-scr een message Reason PRIVATE NUMBER The caller prefers not t o show the phone number . PRIVATE NAME The caller pre fers not to show the name.
55 Answering system About the answering syst em Answering sys tem and voicemail Y our telephone has separ ate indicators f or two different types of voic e messages: those left on its built-in answering s ystem and those left at your service pr ovider’s voicemail (fees ma y apply).
56 Answering system About the answering syst em V oic e prompt s The system pr ovides voice pr ompts to guide you thr ough remote acc ess and recor ding outgoing announcements. New message indication The message counter on the t elephone base flashes and shows on the handset when there ar e new answering system messages.
57 Answering system Message playback If you have new messages, you hear onl y the new messages (oldest first). If there ar e no new messages, the system plays back all the messages (ol dest first). When playback begins, the total number of messages is announc ed.
58 Answering system Message playback Options during playback When a message is playing, you can adjust the playback volume, skip, r epeat, or delete the message. When messages ar e playing on the telephone base: Press V O L UM E pq to adjust the message playback volume.
59 Answering system R ecor ding & playing memos Memos are messages you r ecord at a handset. Y ou can save, play back, and delete them lik e incoming messages. Y ou can r ecord a memo as a r eminder to yourself , or leave a message for others who use the answering s ystem.

72 Appendix D T r oubleshooting I experience poor sound quality when using the speakerphone. For incr eased sound quality while using the handset speakerphone, place the handset on a flat surf ace with the dial pad facing up. Excessiv e background noise will cause a speak erphone to fade in and out.
