This A T&T 945 Four -Line Small Business System Speak erphone is expandable to a 16-extension telephone system. The 945 is compatible with A T&T 974, 984, 944, 955 and 964 telephones. (See BEFORE Y OU BEGIN starting on page 2 and EXP ANDING THE PHONE SYSTEM beginning on page 70 for details.

This 945 telephone is fully compatible with an y A T&T Four -Line Small Business System Speak erphone 984 or 974 units you ma y hav e installed. Y ou can use a total of 16 945/974/984 units together as extensions in your phone system. This 945 telephone is also compatible with any A T&T 964/955/944 phones you ha ve pre viously installed.
DSL Users Installation of a DSL splitter and an A T&T Z800A filter is required to use the advanced featur es of this telephone if you ha ve DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) ser vice. Set-Up for DSL Users If you ar e a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) customer , you ma y experience interfer ence with the advanced featur es of this telephone.
NO TE: If your DSL service provider cannot suppl y a DSL splitter, it is possible to purchase an outdoor DSL splitter (such as a Corning or Allen T el brand DSL splitter) ov er the Internet. If you ar e a new DSL customer , your DSL ser vice pr ovider will lik ely ask you if you ha ve more than one telephone line in y our home or business.

Con v enience P orts If you want to connect another de vice (such as a modem or fax machine) to the wall jack, you can use the jacks on the phone labeled AU X . These conv enience ports use Lines 3 and 4; a call picked up on Line 3 or 4 at another extension ma y interrupt fax, modem, or message transmission.
18 MENU OPERA TION MENU OPERA TION Featur e setup , memory programming and some individual featur e operations for the 945 use menus sho wn in the screen displa y . Use the na vigation buttons ( < , > , + , - , E ) to begin, end and move thr ough menu operations (for example, feature setup).

Set One T ouch Prefer ence Choose whether pressing an EXT button automaticall y initiates an intercom or One T ouch call. If you want to place One T ouch calls using only one button, set this featur e to TELEPHONE . If you want to place inter com calls using only one button, set this feature to INTERCOM .
Assign an Extension Number to Y our Phone Every individual phone in your telephone system MUST be assigned a unique extension number for the inter com featur e to work. 1 Press E to begin feature setup . 2 Press - until the screen displa y includes PHONE SETTINGS .

Set Dela y Ring Set the length of time befor e incoming calls will ring at this extension. NO TE: If you choose to set a dela yed ring on a phone with V oice Mail ser vice, the phone may not r ing at all before V oice Mail picks up the call. 1 Press E to begin feature setup .
T urn Auto-Mute On or Off Choose whether sounds at this extension will be heard automatically in r esponse to a page (Auto-Mute Off) or only when M is pr essed. Auto-Mute Off permits hands-free con versation and r oom monitoring; Auto-Mute On protects privacy.

Erase All Settings and Return the Phone to Default Settings If you r eset all featur es to the default settings, all pre vious featur e pr ogramming and One T ouch entries will be erased. Y ou will need to program your pr efer ences for e very feature again and re-enter n umbers in One T ouch locations.
Y ou will need to pro gram the next tw o featur es if this phone is the designated Console Phone for y our Centrex system. Set This Phone to be the Centrex Console Phone NO TE: This feature is for use with Centrex systems only . 1 Press E to begin feature setup .
Set the Centr ex Console Dela y ed Ring Time NO TE: This feature is for use with Centrex systems only . Set the length of time the phone will r oute your calls to the Centrex Console phone. One ring is about six seconds. 1 Press E to begin feature setup .
NO TE: When you make a call, the phone selects the Pr ime Line y ou programmed (See “Assign the Prime Line” on page 30). When you answ er a call, the phone automatically selects the ringing line .
Speak erphone T o make a call, pr ess and r elease the desired LINE button or K . The SPEAKER light goes on. W ait for a dial tone, then dial the call. Press K to end the call. T o answer a call, pr ess K or press the LINE button of the incoming call.
Switch Betw een Handset, Headset and Speak erphone T o switch from handset to headset or speak erphone, press h or K , then replace the handset. (In order to use the headset, it must be plugged in.) T o switch from speak erphone to handset, lift the handset.
41 TELEPHONE OPERA TION TELEPHONE OPERA TION Call Privacy T o ensure call privacy , this phone allows only one set at a time to use a line. Cancel Call Privacy During the call, press the LINE button f or the call. Y ou’ll hear a shor t beep . Others can now join the call.
V olume Handset/Speak erphone/Headset V olume Contr ol When you ar e on a call, pr ess VOLUME + to incr ease call volume. Press V OLUME - to decrease v olume. Y ou will hear a beep when you r each the minimum or maximum lev el. Ringer V olume When the phone is ringing, press V OLUME + or V OLUME - to adjust the ringer v olume.
Redial Stack The last six numbers dialed fr om this extension are automatically stor ed in the redial memory stack. Y ou can revie w the numbers in the r edial memory and dial one if you wish. 1 When the phone is not on a call, press R . 2 Press + or - to scr oll through the last six numbers dialed at this extension.
Hold While on a call, press and r elease H . The LINE light for the line on hold flashes slowl y in green, and a double-beep sounds ev er y 30 seconds to r emind you the call is on hold. (T o turn off the reminder beep , see “T urn Hold Reminder On or Off ” on page 27.
Mute Mute allows y ou to hear the other party , but the other party can’t hear y ou. T o activate this feature, press and r elease M . The MUTE light goes on.
Confer ence Calls This featur e lets you set up a thr ee-party call by using two lines at the same time. Y ou can also join an intercom call with a call on an outside line. The outside line call must be established first because an intercom call cannot be placed on hold.
T ransfer a Call Y ou can transfer a call you ans wer to an y other system phone. Once you transfer a call, it can be picked up at any other system phone, not just at the extension you called. For information about using the displa y screen menus, see MENU OPERA TION beginning on page 18.

If you ha ve only 945/974/984 phones on your phone system, you can ha v e up to 16 phones and up to 19 telephone lines.
Private Lines Y ou can use the fourth line on each extension as a private line . A private line is a telephone number assigned to just one extension. NO TE: Y ou must progr am the lines y ou are using at each extension so that the phone knows which lines are shared and which are private .
Setup Checklist Befor e expanding your system or installing f or Centrex, revie w the installation checklist. If you ha v e Centrex, contact your local telephone company f or further information about Centrex service . • The phone number for Line 1 m ust be the same on all phones in order for the Inter com and Page features to w ork.
