The instructions below are for both table/desk and w all installation. 1 Choose a spot near an electrical outlet and a telephone jack. This phone requires a modular telephone jac k and a standard electrical outlet (110v A C) not controlled by a wall switc h.
3 Connect the telephone line cord. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the jack labeled TEL LINE on the back of the base. Plug the other end of the line cord into a modular jack.
8 Check for dial tone. After the batteries are charg ed, pick up the handset. Check f or a dial tone by pressing P ; you should hear a dial tone. 9 Set up T elephone Featur es. See pages 6 and 7. 10 Set up Caller ID Features. See pages 8 and 9. 11 Set up Answering System Features.
About Softk eys This telephone has been designed with your conv enience in mind, offering you man y features which y ou can access using the two “softkeys” on the handset, shown in the illustration. Press U to begin viewing options. Use < and > to scroll through the c hoices or to move to the ne xt display .
Ringer Off / Battery Sa ve When the Ringer is set to OFF , the handset sta ys ready to use f or up to 30 days in the standby mode bef ore you have to r etur n it to the base for recharging. When the Ringer is off , the Pag e/Handset Locator feature does not wor k, and the screen does not displa y incoming call information.
Caller ID F eature Setup Pro gramming Home and Local Area Codes Y our “home area code” is the area code from whic h you are dialing. Numbers called within your home area code do not require y ou to dial a “1” or the area code bef ore dialing the telephone number .
Call List Options Y ou can customize how the phone stores call information. Select whether the system stores inf or mation a bout ALL CALLS received, or f or NO CALLS . The system comes set to ALL CALLS . 1 Make sure the is not display ed. 2 Press U> .
Ring Select and T oll Sav er Use Ring Select to select how many times the phone will ring bef ore the system answ er s a call. Set for 1 to 7 r ings, or set to SA for T oll Saver (Ring Select comes preset to 4 ).
Priority Call Signal When a caller enters the Pr iority Calling Code from a touch tone phone, the system “chirps” to aler t you that you hav e a Pr iority Call. Y ou’ ll need to provide select callers with the Prior ity Calling Code (preset to 999), in order f or them to use this feature.
Recording Y our Announcement Befor e using this answering system, you can record an announcement (up to three minutes long) that callers will hear when the system answers a call. When you record y our announcement, make sure you indicate who has been assigned to each mailbox, and that callers should press 1 or 2 to access the appropriate mailbox.
Deleting an Announcement 1 If the announcement you want to delete is the currentl y selected announcement ( A , B , or AO ) go to Step 2 . If not, select the announcement by following Steps 1– 4 in “Selecting Y our Announcement” on page 9, then g o to Step 2 below .
Caller Specific Outgoing Announcements Y ou can record up to three Caller Specific Outg oing Announcements that you can matc h to: • specific incoming caller numbers, or • callers who choose to block their name and number when calling, or • callers from areas in which Caller ID inf or mation is not transmitted.
10 The screen displa ys the number or call type matched to this announcement. T o chang e the recording, select RE-RECORD — OR — Select DONE . If you have not r ecorded all Caller Specific Outgoing Announcements, begin again at Step 4 . NOTE: Y ou do not need to enter the “1” when storing numbers y ou usually dial with a 1 pr efix.
T alking Caller ID Y ou can record personalized announcements (T alking Caller ID) to be play ed from the speaker at the base each time a call is receiv ed from a telephone number or call type you prog ram.
Re viewing a T alking Caller ID ( LOCAL ) Announcement 1 Press U . 2 Use the softkey to select DIR . 3 Select ANS SYS . 4 Select LOCAL . 5 Select REVIEW . The screen displays the first LOCAL announcement. 6 Use < or > to display the announcement you w ant to review .
18 Making a Call 1 Press P , and wait f or to appear on the display . As the phone is selecting a channel, the screen ma y display SEARCHING... . 2 When you hear a dial tone, dial the number . 3 See the TELEPHONE MEMOR Y and CALLER ID OPERA TION sections of this manual for mor e calling options.
Answ ering a Call Press P on the handset. The appear s and the call is connected. Ending a Call Press P on the handset — OR — Place the handset in the cradle. Redial The last number dialed on this phone (up to 24 digits) is stored in redial memor y until you dial another number .
20 Mute Mute allows you to hear y our caller , but prevents the caller from hearing you. 1 Press > while on a call, until the screen displays MUTE ; select MUTE . 2 T o return to your conversation, select UNMUTE . Hold When you put a call on hold, you cannot hear y our caller and your caller cannot hear you.
Changing Channels This cordless telephone has an advanced AutoSelect f eature that minimizes the chance of interf erence. When the phone is looking f or a clear channel, the screen displa ys SEARCHING... . If it is unable to locate a clear channel, the screen displa ys TRY AGAIN .
22 Adjust speaker volume Answ ering a Call T o answ er a call using the speakerphone, press K on the base. The SPEAKER light goes on, and the call is connected. T o end the call, press K again. Connecting to a Call with the Speak erphone Y ou can make a call at the handset, and then switch to the speakerphone.
23 Hold Press H to put a call on hold. The SPEAKER light f lashes. T o return to the call, press H again — OR — Press P on the handset — OR — Press K on the base — OR — Lift the handset of an e xtension phone on the same line.
24 Y ou can store up to 10 telephone numbers and names in memor y . Y our messages and announcements will be sav ed in the event of a power f ailure, but you ma y need to reset the clock (see FEA TURE SETUP). The telephone memor y works with the Memory Match, Caller Specific Outgoing Announcement, T alking Caller ID and Pr iority Ring features.
25 Storing a Name with a Memor y Number 1 Follow Steps 1 through 6 under “Storing Number s in Memor y . ” 2 Use the keypad to enter a name. T o enter the fir st letter on a ke y , press the key once. T o enter the second letter on the ke y , press the key twice.
Deleting Memor y Numbers 1 Follow Steps 1 through 4 in “Vie wing Number s in Memor y . ” 2 Press U . 3 T o delete a number , use the softke y to select DELETE .
27 T urning the System On/Off The answ er ing system must be on in order to use any ans wering system functions. When the answering system is on, the Message Window is on (a steady or f lashing display). T o turn the answering system on, press O on the base.
28 ANSWERING SY STEM OPERA TION At the Base Announcement Pla y/Silent Y our system comes set so you can hear your announcement when the system answ er s a call.
Listening to Y our Messages As the system plays bac k messa ges in a mailbox, the Message Windo w displays the number of the messag e playing. Before pla ying each message, the system announces the day and time the messag e was received. After playing the last messag e, the system announces “ End of messages.
30 Deleting Messages Delete all messages in a mailbox 1 Press D . The MBOX lights f lash. 2 Press the button of the mailbox where y ou want to delete messages. If you have listened to all messages in that mailbox, they are deleted and cannot be recov ered.
31 Message Windo w Displa y Message Windo w Displays: When: 0 – 98 Y ou have messages waiting, or messag e is playing AO System is set to Announce Only – – System is taking a call CL ↔ 0 – 9.
32 This cordless ans wering system allows you to retrieve messages and access other featur es even when you are a way from y our home or of fice. Y ou can also use the cordless handset to access ans wering system features when you are within r ange of the base.
V oice Help Menu The V oice Help Menu allows you to use the answ er ing system from your cordless handset or from a r emote touch tone telephone, even if y ou do not know or remember the various command codes. Once you hav e connected with the answ er ing system, press 5 .
Deleting Messages Connect with the answering system and begin playing messag es. T o delete a selected message , press and release 3 while the message is playing. T o delete all messages in a mailbox: After y ou listen to all messages in the mailbox and hear “ End of Messages , ” press 3 and then the mailbox number .
35 Setting the Clock 1 Connect with the answering system. 2 Press *8 . Y ou will hear the cur rent day , f ollowed by “ T o change, pr ess 6 or 4. T o change the hour , press 8 .” 3 Press 4 to move back a da y , or 6 to move f orward a day . 4 Press 8 .
36 Changing Settings 1 Connect with the answering system. 2 Press *9 . 3 Press 9 to enter Setup Mode. 4 T o chang e a setting (Select Announcement, Set Ring Select, Set A udible Message Aler t, Change Remote Access Code, Change Priority Calling Code), press 4 or 6 .
37 C ALLER ID OPERA TION About Caller Identification This telephone has a Caller ID featur e that works with Caller Identification ser vice provided by your local telephone compan y . There is a fee f or this ser vice, and it may not be available in all ar eas.
Incoming Call Histor y This telephone assigns each incoming call a number from 1 to 99. The most recent call will have the highest number (f or example, if 10 calls hav e been received, call number 10 is the most recent, and call number 1 is the oldest).
Y ou can also program up to f our other local area codes. These are area codes that do not require dialing a “1” before them. After storing these area codes, if you receiv e a call from one of these area codes, the screen displays the ten digits (thr ee digits of area code plus seven digits of phone number).
Caller ID Displa y Messages Displa y: Meaning: PRIVATE NAME The other party is blocking name inf or mation. PRIVATE NUMBER The other party is blocking telephone number information.
41 This cordless telephone operates within the maximum po wer allow ed b y the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and base can communicate over onl y a cer tain distance — which can vary with the locations of the base and handset, the weather , and the constr uction of your home or office.
Charging the Handset Ba tter y Pack This batter y should remain charg ed up to 15 days with the Ringer turned on and up to 30 days with the Ring er of f. A fully c harged battery provides an aver age talk time of about 10 hours. The batter y pack needs charging when: • A new batter y is installed in the handset.
43 Nickel Cadmium Rechargeable Batteries must be recycled or disposed of properl y . Do not dispose of in household garbage. If bur ned, it could explode. If punc- tured, it could release caustic material which could injure the skin or eyes. If swallow ed, it may be toxic.
44 If you hav e dif ficulty operating this phone, tr y the suggestions below . If you still hav e trouble, call 1 800 222–3111. If the phone does not w ork at all, check these items first: • Make sure the pow er cord is plugged into the base and an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall s witch.
If y ou hear noise or interference when using the phone: • Make sure the base antenna is fully upright. • Y ou may be out of rang e. Move closer to the base. • Press and release L to c hange to another channel. Move closer to the base befor e changing channels.
If the caller’ s name or phone number is not display ed during Call W aiting: • Make sure you subscribe to combined Caller ID with Call W aiting ser vice. • The screen ma y not display the call inf or mation if someone is on an e xtension phone.
If CL appears in the Message Windo w: Y ou need to reset the clock. If the system does not respond to commands fr om a remote touch tone phone: • Make sure you ar e calling from a touch tone phone. When you dial a number , you should hear tones. If you hear clic ks instead, the phone is not a touch tone telephone.
