About Softk eys This telephone has been designed with your conv enience in mind, offering you man y features which y ou can access using the four “softkeys. ” By pressing the softkey ne xt to the operation indicated on the displa y screen, you select that operation.
About Home Ar ea Code and Local Area Codes Alwa ys progr am your home area code, and, if you need them, up to f our local area codes (see “Prog ram Home Area Code” and “Prog ram Local Area Code(s)” on pages 9 and 10).
Batter y Installation NOTE: Line 2 will not wor k without A C pow er . Mak e sure the po wer cor d is connected to the phone and plugged into an electrical outlet. Befor e using the telephone, you should install 4 AA batteries (not included). In case of a power failur e, you will onl y be able to make or answ er calls on Line 1.
W all Installation 1 Remove the base. Place your thumbs in the tw o openings at the lar ge end of the base. Push down with your thumbs, and lift the base up and awa y from the phone. 2 Connect the bundled line cord(s) to the telephone. Leav e the telephone line cor d(s) bundled.
• If you hav e two separate jacks, plug the free end of the cord with the blue plugs into the modular wall jac k f or Line 1. Plug the free end of the cord with the c lear plugs into the modular wall jack f or Line 2. Make sure the cor ds snap firmly into place.
2 Attach the base. T ur n the base so the larger end is towar d the top of the telephone. Reattach the base by inserting the tabs into the slots. Push down on the large end of the base to loc k it into place. 3 Connect the line cord(s) to the telephone.

6 Connect the power cord. CA UTION: Use only the power cor d supplied with your system. If you need a replacement cord, call 1 800 222-3111. Fit the pow er cord behind the strain relief tab. Then plug the smaller end of the power cor d into the jack labeled POWER at the back of the system.
Use the softkey to select HOME (the screen displa ys Enter Area Code and --- ), then use the ke ypad to enter your home area code. If you make a mistake, select ERASE and re-enter the correct digits. Use the softkey to select DONE . 13 Pr ogram Local Ar ea Codes(s).

Caller ID Options Y ou can customize how the Caller ID features of this phone w ork. Select DONE or select OK until the screen displa ys the option you want to customize.

TELEPHONE OPERA TION 14 Making and Answ ering a Call The green LINE light f lashes for a line that is ringing. The green LINE light is on steady f or the line that will be selected when the handset is lifted or S is pressed. The red LINE light is on stead y for a line that is in use and f lashes slo wly f or a line that is on hold.
Automa tic Line Selection A utomatic Line Selection is preset to be active. This means the system is preset to select a line f or you when you lift the handset or press S . The system will automatically select a ringing line befor e an idle line, and an idle line befor e the pr imar y line.
TELEPHONE OPERA TION 16 Switching Between Lines During a Call Dur ing a call on one line, you can make or ans wer a call on the other line by pressing H . Y ou can use the H and Line buttons to switc h back and forth between calls as often as necessary .
17 TELEPHONE OPERA TION Confer ence Call Options T o place a conference call on Hold: 1 Press H to hold both lines. Both red LINE lights will f lash. 2 Press C to release hold and continue y our conference call. T o talk privately with one caller: 1 Press H .

TELEPHONE MEMOR Y 19 This telephone has nine white dial locations (white spaces on the director y card) and nine gr ay dial locations (gra y spaces on the director y card). Each location can store up to 24 digits. Number s stored will not be lost even in the event of a pow er failure, and even if you hav e not installed batter ies.

C ALLER ID OPERA TION 21 NOTE: Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID and Call W aiting ser vice with y our local telephone company f or this system to w ork. Y ou must also subscribe to Call W aiting Deluxe service f or the Call W aiting Deluxe f eatures to w ork.
22 C ALLER ID OPERA TION About Caller Identification (Caller ID) This unit keeps a record of the names and numbers of the last 99 calls, whether you ans wer the phone or not.
LOCAL 1 LOCAL 2 Change which area code? HOME DONE 23 C ALLER ID OPERA TION Message W aiting and NEW CALL Lights Ther e is a NEW CALL light f or each line at the top of the set. The NEW CALL light will stay on steadil y when you have new calls in the call log.
24 C ALLER ID OPERA TION Call Scr eening Y ou can see who’ s calling before y ou answer the phone. The screen displays the name and number of y our caller , if the information is available.
25 Repea t Calls Y ou can choose whether you w ant repeat calls listed separatel y , or each repeat call combined with the original call (for unrevie wed calls onl y). Combined calls include the repeat count, the time/date ref lects the most recent call, and the call histor y is reordered (if necessar y).
26 C ALLER ID OPERA TION Displa y Dial Options Y ou can chang e how the call histor y is set up for r eview . Use this featur e if you want to c heck and/or chang e the way a number in call histor y is dialed. 1 Press + or - to locate the number y ou want to call.
27 C ALLER ID OPERA TION Using Call W aiting Deluxe Options 1 T o access the Call W aiting Deluxe options menu, press O . 2 Select LINE 1 or LINE 2 . 3 The Screen prompts Which options do you use? , then prompts, in order , HOLD? , ANNOUNCE? , CONFERENCE? , FORWARD? .
28 C ALLER ID OPERA TION Confer ence Call W aiting Call T o use this ser vice, you must subscribe to it as explained in “ About Call W aiting Deluxe” in BEFORE Y OU BEGIN . While on a call, you can use the Call W aiting Delux e Confer ence feature to confer ence in a Call W aiting call.
Call F orwar d Call Forw ard allows y ou to forward an incoming call from y our home telephone to a different location. This featur e requires Call F orwarding, a ser vice available through y our local telephone company . This service may be called by dif fer ent names b y different local telephone service provider s.

Prob lems with Line Status Lights Mak e sure all plugs are connected properl y . Inspect the line cord connections at the modular jack and at the telephone.
