Inserting the needle I Pfaff 245 and 1245-706/05: needle system 134-35 Pfaff 1245-706/08: needle system 190. Needle size and needle point style are de pendent on the material (see needle and thread chart on page 7). Bring the needle bar to its highest point.
Threading the needle Pull the thread from the reel and lead it through thread retainer 1 (Fig. 7a), then — as shown in Fig. 7 — through guide 2, thread retainer 3, clockwise around and between tension discs 4, around thread controller disc 5, through thread check spring 6 and into hook 7.
Winding the bobbin Thread the bobbin winder as illustrated in Fig. 8. Place an empty bobbin on the winder spindle, wind a few turns of thread on the bobbin clock wise, and start the bobbin winder by pressing its spindle in with your thumb (see arrow).
Fig. 9a R 9931 Changing and threading the bobbin case Turn the balance wheel to bring the take-up lever to its highest position. Open the bed slide, raise latch B and take out the bobbin case. Insert the full bobbin into the bobbin case so that when you pull the thread the bobbin turns in the direction indicated by an arrow.
Drawing up the bobbin thread Hold the end of the needle thread and turn the balance wheel in sewing direction until the bobbin thread comes up through the needle hole in a loop. Draw the bobbin thread out of the needle hole and lay it back under the presser foot.

Stitch length regulation Turn knurled nut S clockwise for a shorter stitch, or counter-clockwise, for a longer stitch. The stitch is indicated on the scale in millimeters. Reverse sewing To sew in reverse, push feed regulator lever S upwards. For machines featuring an automatic backtacking mechanism -911/, .
Regulating the pressure on the material When regulating screw R is turned clockwise, the pressure of the presser foot on the material is increased. When the screw is turned coun ter-clockwise, it is decreased.
Setting the top feed lift The lift of the vibrating and lifting pressers has to be adapted to the material to be sewn. To do this, loosen wing nut A and push the lever upwards for a higher lift, or downwards for a lower lift.
Safety clutch If thread jamming occurs in the hook raceway, the hook drive is automatically disengaged. To re engage the hook drive, tilt the machine back. Pushpins back with a screwdriverto release latch K. Turn the balance wheel in sewing direction until you hear latch K snap in place in the clutch.
Cleaning the sewing hook Clean the sewing hook thoroughly once a week. To do this, bring the needle bar to its highest point, open the bed slide and remove the bobbin case with the bobbin. Unscrew and remove hook gib B. Turn the balance wheel until pointS is about 5mm inside groove N.

Needle thread tension control -906/03 Engaging or disengaging the additional thread tension moves the interlocking of threads to the lower or upper half of the material thickness. Lever 0 in upper position = additional tension is activated (interlocking of threads is moved toward the surface of the top ply).
