3.0 CONFIGURA TION The Model 1095 is equipped with three sets of eight DIP s witches, which allow configuration of the unit f or a wide variety of applications.
7 Switches S2-6 and S2-7: Clock Mode Use Switches S2-6 and S2-7 to configure the 1095 f or internal, e xternal, or receive recov er clock mode. Switch S2-8: Enable/Disable Loop T ests from DTE Use Switch S2-8 to allow Model 1095 to enter loopbac k tests when the DTE raises the appropriate loop request pin.
3.2 CONFIGURING THE SOFTW ARE SWITCHES The Model 1095 f eatures a menu-driven command system that allows y ou to monitor and configure your Model 1095 stand alone unit. There are two modes of operation f or the Model 1095 control por t: Monitor and Configuration.
3.3 VT100 TERMINAL CONFIGURA TION With software v ersion 2.3.1 or higher , you can configure the 1095 using a VT100 compatible terminal (or program). With the VT100 Interface , you can perf orm all functions availab le via the DIP switches. The VT100 operation is av ailable from the main menu page .
3.3.4 Option #2 Clock Mode Selection Men u If option 2 is selected in the Software Configuration Men u, the Model 1095 will displa y the Clock Mode Selection Men u. This menu will allow the user to set the clock mode f or the Model 1095 stand alone unit.
3.4 NETLINK PLUG-AND-PLA Y The NetLink Plug-and-Pla y application allows ISPs and PTTs to quickly upg rade the link speed f or a customer without re-configur ing the Customer Premise (CP) Model 1095.
4.2 CONNECTING THE SERIAL PORT The serial por t interface on the Model 1095 uses interchangeable QuikConnect™ Modules. Each QuikConnect™ Module has a 50-pin card edge connector on one side and a serial por t interface on the other . Figure 4 below shows ho w a QuikConnect™ Module plugs into the back of the Model 1095.
4.2.4 Configuring the X.21 QuikConnect™ Module The serial por t on the X.21 QuikConnect™ Module is def ault wired as a DCE, but ma y be switched to a DTE. This is done by re versing the orientation of the DCE/DTE strap , as described below: T o re verse DCE/DTE orientation, remove the module according to the instructions in Section 4.
5.0 OPERATION Once the Model 1095 is properly configured and installed, it should operate transparently . This sections descr ibes power-up , read- ing the LED status monitors, and using the b uilt-in loopback test modes. 5.1 PO WER-UP T o apply power to the Model 1095, first be sure that y ou hav e read Section 4.
Framer The framer is used to determine the status of the line. In normal operation the framer transmits and e xpects to receive fr amed packets from the f ar end. If the framer receiv es framed packets from the f ar end, CTS and CD will be active . If framed pac kets are not receiv ed, CTS and CD will be inactive .
5.3.2 Loops and P atterns The f ollowing section describes the T est Modes used in the Model 1095. At the bottom of each T est Mode, a figure is included to show the data path. Local Loop There are two diff erent modes of operation for a Local Loop depending on the status of the units at the time that the Local Loop is initiated.
Local Loop After the 511/511E pattern times out, the ER led with 511/511E will begin flashing. It will remain this wa y until (continued) the pattern generator switch is turned off. Note that the data at the local DTE and the remote DTE are not valid.
Remote Digital The Remote Digital Loop with 511/511E is Loop with shown abo ve. After RDL is estab lished the 511/511E Remote units' Restar t Timer is set to one minute. This has been done because when the 511/511E generator is star ted on the local unit, the Remote framer begins seeing unframed pack ets.
5.3.3 Using the V .52 (BER) T est P attern Generator T o use the V .52 BER tests in conjunction with the Remote Digital Loopback tests (or with Local Line Loopbac k tests), follow these instructions: 1. Locate the “511/511E” toggle switch on the front panel of the 1095 and mov e it DOWN.
