6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide 4. Configuring Your Router This section will guide you through your router’s configuration. The ro uter is shipped with a standard default br idge configuration; for most use rs, you m ay want to change t he router from a bridge to a router.
6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide 4.2 Home screen The first screen (Fig ure 2) that appea rs (after the login scre en) is the Home scree n. From this screen y ou can configure the modem , access tools that are helpful for debugg ing purposes, obtain the status of the modem, and view the online help.
6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide 4.3 Setup To set up your router with a basic configuration, select Setup. Figure 3 illu strates the setup page. The page is broken into two subsection s: the WAN configuration an d the LAN configuration.

This will bring up the modem setup screen. Leave t he default val ue if you are uns ure or the DSL/ ISP did not p rovide this in formation.

6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide 4.5.2 Chan ging the rou ter’s IP address To change the router’s IP address: Go to the Home screen and click on Setup. Under LAN Setup, select Management. This will bring up the screen shown in Figure 11.

Under LAN Se tup, select Firewall/NAT Services. De select the “E nable Firewall and NAT Se rvices” butt on to disa ble the firewa ll and NAT services for all WAN connections.

To add rules, define the source MAC address, destinati on MAC address, and frame type with desired filteri ng type (Allow or Deny), and click on the Add button.

It should only be enabl ed if NAT is also enabled. To enable Multicasting , click on Advanced from the Home screen, then select Muliticast.

6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide 4.7 Tools The router supports a host of tools which will allow you to customize and debug your router. 4.7.1 System Command s To make chan ges permanent you need to cl ick on Tools (at the top of the page) and select System Commands .
6212-A2 and 6382-A1 ADSL R outer User’ s Guide If you forget your pa ssw ord, you can press and ho ld the rese t to factory defaults button for at least 10 seconds. Th e router will be set to its factory default configur ation and all custom configur ation s will be lost.

You should get some kind of information fro m you r ISP which states that DSL service is installed. You can usually tell if the service is installed by listening to th e phone line; you will hear a high-pitched noi se.
