Getting Star ted Inser ting the SIM card and batter y When you register with a service provider , you re ceive a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module car d). Y our phone must have a SIM card in order to make calls. The SIM card is a computer chip that cont ains your phone number , phonebo ok information, and service provider informatio n.

Note: For best battery per- formance, allow the battery to charge and discharg e completely the first few times you use it.
Getting Started 20 Making a call 1. Enter the number you wish to dial. If you make a mista ke, select Clear to delete. The righ t soft key is just under the word Clear on the lower right screen , so select this key to clear a number . Press and hold down the or end key to retu rn to idle screen.
Using Y our Phone Standby mode When your phone is on, but not in use, it is in standby mode. During st andby mode, the upper part of the display screen shows various icons. The date and time is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Beneath the date and time are Menu in the left corner and Camera in the right corner .
Using Y our Phone 22 A text message has been received. A multimedia message has been received. Call forwarding is activated. The SMS memory is full. Musical notes indicate sound-on mode. Notes with a line over them indicate silent mode.See Silent mode on page 35.
Using Y o u r Phone 23 Menu T o view the menu, select the left menu/sof t key from the main display . After the menu appears, scroll through menu items by pressing the navigation key . Beneath the main menu are Select , to the left, and Exit , to the right.

In the submenu, scroll down to Missed Calls , the second item, then press the left soft key to select Here are the icons for categories in the main menu: Tip : Hitting the power/end key is an alternative way to exit any menu. Phonebook is the place to store names and telephone numbers for easy access and caller recognition.
Using Y o u r Phone 25 Camera enables you to take pictures with your phone. Pictures are also stored here. Fun and Games has a number of games as well as tools to manipulate audio and pictures. Settings lets you adjust settings including time, display , and security settings.
Using Y our Phone 26 Function k eys The following table list s the phone keys and their functions. Power/end key • Hold to turn the phone on or of f. • Press to stop an incoming call or cancel a call you are dialing. • Press to exit a menu or sub-menu.
Using Y o u r Phone 27 T ext entr y When you add names to your phone b ook, send a text message, or use your W AP browser , you need to enter text. Y our cell phone has two text entry methods. Y ou can enter letters indivi dually or with p redictive text entry , which helps yo u complete words as you ente r them.
Using Y our Phone 28 Multit ap text entry Multitap text entry enables you to enter individual letters. This is ideal for adding a phonebook entry or entering a W AP address. When you press a key , the assigned characters appear in the upper right of the screen.
Using Y o u r Phone 29 For practice, try entering text into a text message (SMS). From the menu, go to Messages > New SMS . T o enter the word, “hello,” first make sure that the entry met hod is set to multitap. Press Options , then select Input Method .
Using Y our Phone 30 T9™ text entry T9™ text entry is a predictive text entry method. It uses a built-in dictionary to predict the word you are typing.
Using Y o u r Phone 31 8. Press the key . The T9™ system predicts that baby is the probably the only word in English beginning with bab , and this word only appears on the screen. 9. Select to enter . Note: For T9™ text entry to work properly , ensure the language settings in your phone match the language you want to type in.
Calling F eatures R edialing a number 1. Press the send/answer key . A list of numbers dialed a ppears, with the last number dialed at the beginning of th e list. 2. Select the number you wish to dial and press the send/answer key . Dialed numbers can also be accessed from Call Logs>Dialed.
Calling Feat u res 33 Canceling an incoming call If you would like to cancel an incoming call, press the power/end key . Depending on your service provider , the caller may be transferred to your voice mail or may hear a busy signal.
Calling Features 34 Dialed and received Calls Call Logs also contai n lists of dialed and re ceived calls. T o dial one of these numbers, follow the sa me process as for returning a missed call.
Calling Feat u res 35 Silent mode During silent mode, the phone vibrates for an incoming call. Press and hold the key to enab le or disable silent m ode. When silent mode is not enabled, the icon appears in the st andby screen. When silent mode is enabled, the appears.
Calling Features 36 Call timer Depending on the type of ser vice package you have, you may pay according to the length of your calls. Some users like to monitor the length of their calls. Y our phone of fers a convenient and accurate way to keep track of length and cost s of calls at Call logs>Call In fo>Call Costs and Call Timers .
Phonebook The phonebook enables you to store information about your cont acts, including phone number s, fax numbers, addresses, an d e-mail addresses. Y ou can also set up special informa tion for contact s , such as ringtone s, pictures, and group s.
Phonebook 38 Group s Y ou may add the contact to a group . T o add a conta ct to a group: 1. Select Options>Grouplist 2. A list of groups appea rs. Scroll to the desired group, then select. 3. Select Vi ew to edit group settings. 4. Select Options>View Members then select numb ers to add ph onebook entries to the group.
Phonebook 39 Editing contact infor ma tion 1. Select the cont act. 2. Select View>Edit to edit contac t information. Phonebook>Opti ons offers convenient tools for acc essing contact information, such as sea rching and spee d dialing, as well as editing options.
Phonebook 40 Deleting a contact • T o delete the cur rent contact, select Delete . • T o delete all contacts , select Delete All . Editing a group list. 1. Go to Phonebook>Options>Group List. Select a group, then selec t View . 2. Information fields appear for name, picture and ringtone.

Messa g es Messages ena bles you to send and receive text messages (SMS, or Short Message Service) or multimedia mess ages containing a combination of audio, pictures, or text (MMS, or Multimedia Messaging Service). If you have received a n ew text mess age or voice message, the enve lope icon in the standby screen will flash on and off.
M essages 43 The phone support s two types of text entry , Multitap, and T9™ predictive text input. For more info rmation, see T ext entry: The basics on page 27. 1. Enter the text of your message. 2. T o send the message, select Options>Send . Shortcut keys The key switc hes between differen t case entry methods.
Messages 44 Options Selecting Options from the text entry box also enables you to select the following options: Send Prompts yo u to enter a phone number a nd send the message. Save If you are no t ready to send a messag e, you may save it as a draf t.
M essages 45 Input language Change your input langua ge. This is essential for T9™ predictive text input. Inbox Go to SMS>Inbox to view all SMS messages stored in your handset.
Messages 46 Settings Change the followin g settings in Messages>SMS>Setting : Message Cent re Enter the num ber to call to retrieve voicemail mes- sages. Y ou must obtain this number from your ser- vice provide r . Message Format Set the format to Normal (SMS cell ph one message), Fax, V oicemail, Internet.
M essages 47 Multimedia Messa ge s (MMS) Composing a new multimedia message T o compose a multimedia message, select Messages>New MMS. Three options appe ar: Add text Scroll to Te x t and select to ent er text. The te xt entry box is the same as the text entry box for an SMS message.
Messages 48 2. Select the photo you wish to add and select OK . The photo is automatically add ed to the MMS message . In the main MMS screen, you see the text and imag es of your message combined together . Add audio 1. Select Audio to add an audio file.
M essages 49 When you press the options key from the main MMS scr een, the following options also appear : Send Sends the message. Preview Preview the message before sending it. Remove Object Removes currently selected object in MMS message. (T ext, ima ge, audio).

M essages 51 Settings options Sending V alidity period Set a number of days for the service provider to continue trying to send a message. This setting is usefu l if your contact’ s phone is turned off. Read report Request a receipt from your contact when the messa ge is received.
Messages 52 Retrieval Retrieval mode Set retrieval of MMS to manual or automatic. Read report Set read report to On Request, Always, or Never . Delivery report Set whether t o send delivery rep ort after sending an SMS.
M essages 53 Infor mation Ser vices Information se rvices distribute cont ent as text messages with content about weather , news, and financial market s. Manage informa tion services at Message s>Message In fo . The phone comes with an informa tion message box alrea dy set up.
Messages 54 V oicemail V oicemail is provided by your service provider . V oicemail messages are stored on the network server and no t on your phone’ s SIM card. Y our service provider will give you a nu mber to dial to hear your voicemail messages.
Using the Camera and Mana ging Photos Y our phone has an easy-to-use, built-in digita l camera. After you t ake photos with it, you can send them to friends and family , set them as wallpaper , or even add a photo to your phon ebook, so that the picture appears when someon e calls you.
Using the Camera 56 Self-portrait Y ou can take a self-portrait by using the small mirror on the back of your p hone. Hold the camera with one hand and use a nother to press Capture . Look at yo ur reflection in t he mirror to position the camera. Settings There are two ways to adjust setting s.
Using the Camera 57 Note: If you plan to share photos with ot hers, keep in mind that all phone s that support photos can receive 120 X 160 photos. Other sizes ma y not be supported. Tip : High resolution photos require a lot of memory . T o save memory sp ace, select middle or low resolution.

Using the Camera 59 Managing your photos View the pho to album by selecting Camera>V iew Pictures . If you prefer to scroll through fu ll-frame views of indi vidual pho tos, select any individual photo, then push the scroll button to view the next photo.
Using the Camera 60 Set to Caller ID . Associate a photo with a cont act in your phonebook. When the contact calls you, th e contact’ s photo is displayed. 1. Select Options> Caller ID . 2. A list of contact s in your phonebook appear s. Select the desired contact.
Using the Camera 61 Adding effects to your photos The variety of effect s offe red in your camera helps yo u to improve the look of your photos or add creative touche s. Bring out the best of a photo by changing the layout or editing photogr aphic element s such as brightness and hue.
Using the Camera 62 Animation Tr a n s f o r m Animated Frame Adds a decorative animated pictur e frame. Animated Morph Animates a por tion of the photo. The up and down navigation ke y scrolls among styles. Move the animation frame ar ound dif ferent portions of the photo using the 2,4, 6, and 8 number keys.
Using the Camera 63 Face Off cont ains the types of ef fects you would expect to find at a carnival funhouse. Funny Theme su perimposes decorative graphics on photos. Morph Distorts app earances much like a funhouse mirr or does. Y ou may reapply this fu nction se veral times to create even weirder ef fects.
Using the Camera 64 Filter applies a variety of artistic effect s to your photos. Blur Decreases definition and contra st of objects. A radiu s bar appears. Increase or decrease the amount of blur by setting levels on the bar , using the up and down navigation key .
Using the Camera 65 Adjustment enables you to adjust some of the basic visu al component s of a photo. Af ter viewing an adjustment, press select to either undo or save the changes. Hue/ Saturation Refers to the pur ity of a colo r , without dilution by black or white.
Fun and Games The Fun and Games section of the men u contai ns games, as well as creative sound and image tool s. Alb um Selecting Album opens the photo album, alon g wi th the same functions found in Camera>Vi ew Pictures . For mor e information on managing and editing photos, see Managing your photos on p age 59.
F u n and Ga mes 67 Pictures Selecting Pictures opens an album of artwork and graph ics that you can set as wallpaper , send as part of a multimedia image, and more. T o view an individual photo, select Vie w . Select Options for ways to display or share a picture .
Fun and Games 68 Composer Composer is a midi music compo sition tool that en ables you to comp ose and edit tunes with up to four channels . Composer st ores up to five tu nes. The factory default setting for these ph ones is empty , so you can create completely new melodies.

Fun and Games 70 Games Y our phone contains the exciting Xfinity ga me. T o navigate through games: , Use the and keys to move right and left. If you receive a phon e call or message or an alarm soun ds while you are playing a game, the game pauses. up and down navigation key Move up and down and keys Move right and lef t.
General Phone Settings In the set tings section of th e menu, you ca n edit settings fo r personal preferences, such as display or ring styl e. Y ou can also set useful features such as time and date or security features. This section of the manual introduces the most comm only used featur es.
General Phone Set- 72 Y ou may also compose your own ring tone. For more info rmation, see Composer on p age 68 Ring v olume T o adjust ring volume, go to Settings>Sound and Alert>Ring Volume. Y ou can adjust the ring volume of the following features: Any call, Alarm, Mess age, Cell Broadcast.
General Phone S et - 73 1. Go to Settings>Handset Settings>Display>Wallpaper . Select Change . 2. Select Pictures, Calendar , or No W allpaper . If you select Pictures , an album of artwork a nd graphics appears. 3. Select the picture you would like to set as wallpaper .
General Phone Set- 74 Menu display schemes Y ou can also choose between two dif ferent menu display schemes. The circular icon scheme displa ys round icons in a spherical o rbit, while the grid icon scheme displays icons in a grid. Set schemes in Settings>Handset>Scheme.
General Phone S et - 75 Phone lock The phone lock of fers an addition level of protection for your pho ne. The SIM card lo ck prevents unauthorize d use of your se rvice provider subscription. The phon e prevents others from using the phone , even if your SIM card is replaced with another SIM card.
General Phone Set- 76 Netw or k infor mation Vie w information about the type of network your pho ne is operating on at Settings>Handset Sett ing>PLMN . ( PLMN stands for Public Land Mobile Network Info). For example, if your phone might displa y “GSM 1800” to show it is on a GSM-type network, with 1800 MHz freq uency .
P er sonal Info r mation Mana g e r (PIM) Y our phone has a Personal Information Manager which inclu des a calendar , notebook, alarm clock, and calculator . Select PIM on the main menu to access the Personal Informa tion Manager . Calendar Y our phone has a calendar which you can use to keep track of your appointment s.
Personal Informa- 78 If the Date field is not correct, change it by pressing Select , choosing a day from th e calendar , the n pressing Select again T o enter information in other fields, yo u must select from preset o ptions. In these fi elds, red arrows appear at the r ight of the field.

SIM Applica t ion T oolkit (STK) SIM Application T o olkit (STK) technology acts as a bridge betwee n your SIM card and your service provider’s network, enabling your service provider to make SIM card updates, send you SMS messages, and offer other services via your SIM card.

WA P 96 General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) GPRS is a type of wireless access network. GPRS is used for MMS and SMS, as well as W AP access. Y our phone can have two simultaneous GPRS connections, wh ich means you can send an d receive messages and have an ongoing we b session at the same time.
