10 Care and maintenance Care a nd main tenance Always charge the battery in a well ventilated area , not in direct sunlight, between +5°C and +35°C. It is not possible to rechar ge the battery if it is outside this temperature rang e.

12 SIM and bat tery SIM and battery Fittin g and rem oving the SIM You insert the SIM into the back of the phone, underneath the battery. If your SIM contains contact details, the firs t time that you br owse your contacts list after fitting a new SIM, you are asked whether you want to transfer the SIM data to your phone.
13 SIM an d ba tte ry SIM and ba ttery Charging the batt ery The battery must be fitted in the phone before you connect the charge r. Press the button on the top of the connector and insert it into the bas e of the phone. Connect the charger to t he mains power supply.

29 Voice calls Voice call s Making i nternatio nal c alls If you know the international number, you can ente r it in the normal way, followed by the area code and phone num ber. You can use t he automatic in ternational access code (+), to dial internat ional numbers without knowing the code for th e international exchange.
30 Voice calls Voice cal ls Voice ca lls usi ng Blueto oth ® he adset o r car ki t Making calls You can use voice dial (see C reating a voice dial entry on page 63 for instructions on how to use voice dial) to make voice calls from your Bluetooth ® headset or car kit without pressing any keys on your phone.

33 Voice calls Voice call s Maki ng a second call If Call Waiting is enabled, you can make a second call. You can check your call waiting status from Settings > Call Service > Calls > Call Waiti ng . Press L . Select contact number to dial.
34 Voice calls Voice cal ls Opera ting du ring two c alls Swapping between calls An icon ( J ) indicates the selected l ine number of the current call, when connected to two calls. Press Q . Select Swa p to change to the other call. Ending current call Press Q .
35 Voice calls Voice call s Adding people You can add people to the multi-party call (up to a maximum of five), either by making a call or accepting an incoming call. You can then merge the new call into the multi-party. Press Q . Select Merge .
36 Voice calls Voice cal ls Using th e notepa d During a call you can enter numbers that you ma y want to dial wh en you have finished the call. You can make a note of these numbers on the notepad. Enter the num ber. When you have fini shed your call, p ress D to di al the num ber.
37 Text entry Text entry You use alphanumeric ch aracters to enter de tails into the Contacts List , to create text and e-mail messages . There are five different text entry modes: normal ( AB C or abc ), Gr eek ( V ), extended alphabet ( W ), numbers ( X ) and T9 ® ( T9 ).
38 Text entry Text en try T9 ® Using T9 ® reduces the number of key presses required. When in T9 ® mode: Press a key once for any letter you require on th at key. The desired letter may not be displayed. Continue pressing other keys until the end of a word is reached.
39 Text en try Text entry Cut, copy and pas te You can cut, copy and pas te text from other messages or contacts lis t entries o n your phone. To cut text: Select Menu > Cut . Move to the start of the text that you wa nt to cut, and select Start .
40 Settings Settings Use the Settings m enu to personal ise your phon e. Display Setting the wallpaper The wallpaper is a picture that d isplays when the phone is in idle m ode. Select Wallpaper . Select your pictur e. If your pictur e is n ot in the fo lder press M then select another folder.

43 Settings Settings Menu > Se ttings > Alerts Alerts Changing the ring volume You can change the ring v olume so that yo u can hear your phone ring. For example, in a noisy environment you may want to set the volume to maximum. Select Ring Volum e .
44 Settings Settings Menu > Se ttings > Al erts Setting quiet mode In quiet mode the microphone amplifies your voice, so you can whisper and still be heard by the person on the other end of the call. You should use quiet mode in situations where you do not want to disturb the people around you.

Select Cloc k Set > Auto Adjustment > On . The phone gets your location from the local network provider, and adjusts the clock automatica lly.

54 Settings Settings Menu > Settin gs > Securi ty Securi ty Setting and cancelling the phone lock When the phone l ock is set you can onl y use the pho ne to receive incoming calls and to make emergency calls. Select Phone Lock > On/Off > On .
55 Settings Settings Menu > Settings > Security Setting and cancelling call bar Call barring restri cts certain types of in coming and/or outgoing calls, using a password provided by your service provider. When y ou check the status of the Call Bar, your p hone must be registered with a network.
56 Settings Settings Menu > Settin gs > Securi ty Enabling and disabling PIN and PIN2 The PIN protects your phone against unauthorised use. If you enable the PIN, you have to enter it every time you tur n on the phone. You need PIN2 to set fixed dial numbers.
57 Settings Settings Menu > Se ttings > Netw ork Enabling and disabling fixed dial Fixed dial is part of t he Contacts List , but with added security. When you enable fixed dial: z You can only dial number s that are i n the fixed di al store z If you manually dial a number, it m ust match one in the fixed dial store.
58 Settings Settings Menu > Se ttings > i-mode ™ server Search mode You can set the Se arc h Mode to Auto matic or Manual . When the Search Mode is Manual , the phone only uses the selected network. If coverage is lost, you need to select another network.
59 Settings Settings Menu > Settin gs > i-mod e™ lock For GPRS Set tings you need to select Set , then selec t Edit and set t he options: i-mode ™ lock If you turn on the i-mode™ lock, you cannot connect to any i-m ode™ services or send or receive mail.
60 Contacts list Contacts list Use the Contacts List menu to store a person’s phone numbers, e-mail addresses, company name, pi cture and other informatio n. You can also set up how your contacts list is organised and displayed. Brows e This menu only applies to contact s stored on your phone.

Info numbe rs Your service provider may provide some useful telephone numbers for you to call for services such a s directory enquiries.
69 Applications Applications This menu li sts the Java™ app lications that ar e available on your phone. To use an application highlight it in the list and press Q . You can have up to 50 Java™ app lications on you r phone. System m enu While the li st of J ava™ applic at ions is dis played you can press L to g et the system menu.
70 i-mode™ i-mode ™ Use the i-mode™ menu to acc ess on-line s ervices such as site (program) connection, mail and Internet services. The following i- mode™ icons can appear on yo ur phone: i-Menu This starts the i -mode™ br owser. To end your connection, pr ess E .
71 i-mode™ i-mode ™ Menu > i-m ode™ > Ma il Create Mail To create an e-mail message: Select Mail > Create Mail . or From the idle s creen press L > Create Mail . Press Q . Select Subj ect , then press Q to ent er a subject .

77 Camera Camera You can take pictures with the built-in camera, and s end them i n multim edia (MM S) and e-mail messages, or use t hem as wallpaper. Changing to came ra mode To change t o camera mode either select Came ra from the main menu, or press and hold the memo key /camera shutter key f rom idle mode when the ph one is closed.
78 Camera Came ra Taki ng a self -por trait You can take a self-portrait using the shutter button on the side of the phone. Ensure that the phone is in camera mode. Close the phone. View the image in the self-por trait mirror . Press the shutter button on the side of the phone.
79 Camera Camera Editing the picture When you have finished editin g the picture, you must press Q to save your changes. Select Edit . Press L . Changing the b rightne ss Select Bright ness . Press c to make it lighter or d to make it darker.
80 Camera Came ra Chang ing the forma t Select Forma t . Choose from JPEG Fine , JPEG Normal and JPEG Ec onomy . JPEG Economy pr oduces a small file but with a low res olution. JPEG Normal pro duces a file which is acceptable for most uses. JPEG Fine produces a large file w ith high resolution.

82 Camera Came ra Resolution With Resolution you can choose the resolution for your image. You can choose from 132 x 176 and 288 x 352 . T he d efault is 132 x 176 .
83 SMS SMS SMS is usually called text mes saging. With text messaging you can send and receive text. You can receive, display, edit and send text messages of up to 459 characters to mobile phones on your s ervice provider’s n etwork or any n etwork that has a roaming agreement.
84 SMS SMS Menu > SMS > Inbox Replying to a m essage from a fixe d line Select Re ply . Enter your message text, and include the fixed line number somewhere in the message. The number can be a t any point in your message, but you must enter the number with a hash at the beginning and the end, for example #01234 567890#.
85 SMS SMS Menu > SMS > Chat SMS Chat SM S With Chat SMS you can read s ent and received messages wi th another party on one scr een. Use this to start a call in chat mode. Enter the phone number you want to chat with. To enter a number using the keypad: Enter the number, then select Menu > Ok .
86 SMS SMS Menu > SMS > Settings Settings Message centre You must enter the message centre number before you can send text messages. Select Message Centre . Enter the message cen tre number in in ternational dial format (see Making international calls on page 29).

Overwrites the oldest r ead message. Rece iv ed Any . Overwrites the oldest read mes sage or the oldest unread mess age if there are no read messages.
88 SMS SMS Menu > SM S > Br oadc asts Message list The Mess age List stores the last broadcast messages that you received. You can delete message s from h ere. Languages You can change the language for your broadcast messages. Select Langua ge .
89 Data Folders Data Fo lders Use Data Folders to store your pictures, sounds and them es. There are three predefined f olders for My Pictures , My Sou nds and My Themes . These may contain preloaded files. There is a folder called Unknown , where fi les with an unknown format ar e stored.
