4 VHS Deck and Cassette Tape Information ª Surge Abs orber For further protecti on for this product, these models are equipped with new surge a bsorbing circuits w hich prevents damage due to power surges caus ed by lightning. ≥ This function m ay not be effec tive for surges by direct lightning.
5 Before Use Disc Information ª Discs that can be p layed Use discs with the above logos and that confor m to specifications. The unit cannot play other discs c orrectly. Do not use irreg ularly shaped discs (e.g. heart-shaped), as these can damage the unit.

8 Connections When the unit is turned on after connecting the aerial ca ble and the mai ns lead, Plug i n Auto Tu ning starts autom atically. (NV-VP31GN o nly) Basic Connections The following conn ections are required to record the v ideo cassette and play back the video c assette/discs through the TV.
Getting Started 9 Connections For the V HS/DVD O UT terminal, VHS and DVD out puts can be swit ched or it c an be assigned for VHS output only ( l page 12). The DVD OUT terminal can only output the DV D signal. Not e: ≥ When Video is switched to DVD or vice versa, the audio volume may suddenly increase or decr ease.
10 Operating the TV ≥ Turn on the TV. ≥ Switch [VHS/TV/DVD] to “TV” . When you operate the TV, always select “TV” with t he [VHS/TV/DVD] swit ch. (1) Numeric b uttons (0–9, – /– –) ≥ Selects the TV channel. (2) Television input mode selector (AV) ≥ Selects desired A V input on the T V.
Getting Started 11 Tuning the TV to Your Unit The unit supplies a signal to the TV via the RF coaxial cable on channel AU28 s 69 or NZ21 s 69 . It is possible to view t he unit’s picture on your TV in t he same way that you w atch TV broadcasts.
12 Setting Up for VHS Make basic settings for VHS. These settings are retained in memory until they are changed, even if the unit is turned off. ≥ Select the unit v iewing channel (or the AV input) on the TV . ≥ Turn on the unit . ≥ Switch [VHS/TV/DVD] to “VHS”.

This unit can display a list of t he recorded programmes on the inserted video cassette on the TV screen. You can then select the desired programme, and this unit wil l quickly reac h its beginning and start playback.
