17 VQT1 Z45 Preparatio n ∫ When the [CHARGE] indicator flashes • The battery temper ature is exce ssively hig h or low . The c harging time will be longer t han normal. Also, cha rging may n ot be c ompleted. • The terminals of the charger or t he battery are di rty .
VQT1 Z45 18 Preparation The number of recordable pictures varies depending on the r ecording interval ti me. If t he reco rding int erval time b ecomes l onger , the numbe r of re cordabl e pict ures decreases. [e.g. When recording once every 2 minutes, the number of recordable pictures decreases to about 85.
19 VQT1 Z45 Preparatio n Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/t he Battery • Check that this unit is turned of f. • Confirm t ha t th ere is no fore ign object . (P10) • We reco mmend using a Panas onic card. Slide the re lease leve r in the dir ection of the arrow and open the ca rd/batt ery door .
VQT1 Z45 20 Preparation ∫ About the card /battery door . If you turn on the power wi th the card/battery door open, a warning sound will go off in order to avoid immersion and the message shown below will appear on the LCD monitor . (P134) The camera cannot be operated when the card/battery door is open.
21 VQT1 Z45 Preparatio n About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Memory size: Approx. 40 MB • Recordable motion pictures: QVGA (320 k 240 pixe ls) only • The built-in memor y can be used as a temporary sto r age device when the c ard being used becomes full.

VQT1 Z45 24 Preparation Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to set t he settings for taking pictures and playing them back as you like and m enus that enable yo u to have more fun with the camera and us e it more ea sily .
25 VQT1 Z45 Preparatio n This section describes how to select the normal picture mode settings, and the same setting can be used for the [PLA YBACK] menu and [SETUP] m enu as well. Example: Setting [AF MODE] from [ Ø ] to [ š ] in the Normal Picture Mode Setting m enu items Press and hold down the O N/OFF button.
VQT1 Z45 26 Preparation Press [MEN U/SET] to close the menu. By using t he quick menu, som e of the menu settings can be e asily found. • Some of the menu it ems cannot be set by the modes. Press 3 / 4 to s elect [AF MODE]. • Select t he it em at the very bot tom, and pres s 4 to move to the seco nd scree n.
27 VQT1 Z45 Preparatio n Perform these settings if you need to. About the Setup Menu [CLOCK SET], [ECONOM Y] and [AUTO REVIEW] are important items. Check their settings before using them. • In the Int elligen t auto mode, only [CLOCK SET], [ WORLD TIME ], [BEEP ] and [LAN GUAG E] can be set.

VQT1 Z45 30 Preparation • When the [RESET] settin g is s elected du ring r ecording, t he opera tion tha t rese ts the lens is also perfor med at the same time. Y ou will hear the sound of the lens operating but th is is normal and not indi cative of malf unc tioning.

35 VQT1 Z45 Basic [REC ] m o de: ñ Basic T aking pictures using the automa tic function ( ñ : Intelligent Aut o Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
VQT1 Z45 36 Basic • [ ¦ ] is set if none of the scenes are applicabl e, and th e standard s ettings are s et. • If a tripo d is used, fo r inst anc e, and the ca mera has judg ed that camera shake is minimal wh en the scene mode ha s be en identifie d as [ ], the sh ut ter speed will be set to a maximum of 8 seconds.
37 VQT1 Z45 Basic It is possible to set the focus to the specifi ed subject. Focus will keep following the subject automatically even if it moves. 1 Press 3 . • [ ] is display ed in the upper lef t of the screen. • AF T r acking fr ame is d isplayed in the center of t he scree n.

39 VQT1 Z45 Basic [REC ] m o de: · T aking pictures with your favorite settings ( · : Normal Picture Mode) The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater f reedom by changing var ious settings in [REC] menu.
VQT1 Z45 40 Basic 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and then press the shutter button halfway to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button halfway while moving the c amera as you compose the picture. • Y ou can repeatedl y retry th e ac tions in step 1 before pres sing the shut ter butto n fully .

T o make subjects appear even c loser [maximum of 9.1 k ], do not set t he picture size to the highest setting f or each aspect rati o ( X / Y / W ).

VQT1 Z45 48 Advanced (Reco rding picture s) [REC] mode: ñ· ¿¨ T aking Pic tures using the Bu ilt-in Flash Set the flash to match the recording. Press 1 [ ‰ ].
49 VQT1 Z45 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) ¢ The flash is activated twice. The subject should not move until the second flash is activated. Interval until the s econd flash depends on the brightness of the subject.

Y ou can take pictures of a subject as close a s 5 cm (0.17 feet) from the lens by sliding the zoom lever upmost to Wide (1 k ).

VQT1 Z45 56 Advanced (Reco rding picture s) [REC] mode: ·¿ T aking Pic tures using Auto Br acket In this mode, 3 pictures are automatically r ecorded in the s elected exposure compensation ra nge each time the shut ter button is pressed. Y ou can select the picture with the desired exp osure from the 3 pictu res with different exposures.

VQT1 Z45 58 Advanced (Reco rding picture s) [REC] mode: ¿ T aking pictu res that match the scene being recorded ( ¿ : Scene mode) When you s elect a scene mod e to match t he subject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired p icture.
59 VQT1 Z45 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode enables the texture of their skin to appear even softer than with [PORTRAIT]. (It is effective when t aking pictures of people from the chest up.

If you want to cancel the travel date before the end of the vacation, select [OFF] on the screen shown in step 3 or 7 and then press [MENU/SE T] twice.

VQT1 Z45 84 Advanced (Reco rding picture s) ∫ Setting the white balance manually Set the white balance value. Use to match the condition when t aking photographs. 1 Select [ Ó ] and then press [MENU/SE T]. 2 Aim the camera at a sheet of white p aper etc.
