Preparatio n 11 VQT0V 10 Quic k Guide This is an ov erview of how to record and playback pictures with the camera. For each step, be sure to refer to the pages indicated in brack ets. 1 Insert the batteries. (P1 5) • When y ou do not use the card (optional), you can record or pla y bac k pictur es on the b uilt-in memo ry (P16).
Preparation 12 VQT0V1 0 About the Batteries ∫ Usable batteries • One of the follo wing messages appears when you insert batteries for the first time, change the batteries when they be come exhausted etc.

Preparation 14 VQT0V1 0 will become normal after a fe w charges and discharges. • We recommend ch arging the batteries after they are fully discharged. If you charge the batteries before they are fully discharged, it can reduc e batter y performance.

Preparation 18 VQT0V1 0 • The reading/writing speed of a MultiMediaCard is slower than an SD Memor y Card. When a MultiMediaCard is used, the performanc e of cer tain features may be slightly slower than adv er tised . • K eep the M emory Card out of re ach of children to prev ent sw allowi ng.

Basic 24 VQT0V1 0 ∫ Tips f or taking good pictur es • Hold the cam era gently with both hands, keep y our arms st ill at y our side and stand with your feet slightly apar t. • Make sure the camera does not shak e when you press the s hutter button.
Basic 25 VQT0V 10 We recommend taking pictures using AF/ AE lock. • Ev en when the focus indication appears and the subject is focused, it is canceled if you release the shutter b utton. Press the shutter but ton halfwa y again. ∫ Preventing jitter (cam era shake) • Be careful of j ittering when pressing the shutter button.

Basic 30 VQT0V1 0 • The zoom will stop moving f o r an instant near [W ] (1 k ) when the extended optical zoom is used. This is not a malfunction. • The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation. • In motion picture mode [ ], the extended opti cal zoom does not w ork.
Basic 31 VQT0V 10 Chec king the Re corded P ict ure (Re vie w) Y ou can ch eck the recorded pictures while still in [REC] mode . 1 Press 4 [REV]. • The last recorded pictu re appears for about 10 seconds. • Re view is canceled when the shutter button is pressed halfwa y or the 4 [REV] is pressed again.
Basic 32 VQT0V1 0 Pla ying Bac k Pictures The picture data on the b u ilt-in memory appears when a card is not inse rted. T he picture data on the card appears when a card is inser ted.

Advanced 36 VQT0V1 0 ∫ Recording gui de line When you align the subject on the horizontal and ver tical guide lines or the cross point of these lines , you can t ake pictures with well-designed composition by viewing the size , the slope and the balance of the subject.

Advanced 46 VQT0V1 0 • When burst mode is set, the auto review function is activated regardless of the auto revie w setting. (The pict ure is not enlarged.) Y ou cannot set the auto re view function in the [SETUP] menu. • When the flash is activ ated or [ST ARRY SKY] in scene m ode is selected, you can take only 1 picture.
Advanced 47 VQT0V 10 T aking Close-up Pictures This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. Y ou can take pictures of a subject as close as 5 cm (0.16 f eet) from the lens by rotating t he zoom le ver upmost to Wide (1 k ).
Advanced 48 VQT0V1 0 Scene Mode When you select a scene mode to match the subject and recording situation, t he camera sets the optimal e xposure and hue to obtain the desired pict ure. T wo frequently used scenes can be set to the mode dials [ ] and [ ] .
Advanced 49 VQT0V 10 • Press 2 and then press 3 / 4 in the [SCENE MODE] menu to select either the [REC] menu icon [ ] (P59) or the [SETUP] menu icon [ ] (P19) and set the desired items. • The f ollowing cannot be set in scene mode because t he camera automatically adjusts them to the op timal setting.
Advanced 50 VQT0V1 0 Press [ ] to d isplay the [SCENE M ODE] menu and se lect a scene mode. (P48) This mode allows y ou to take pictures of a fast moving subject e.g. when t aking pictures of outdoor spor ts. ∫ T echniqu e f or S ports mode • This mode is effectiv e when taking pictures dur ing the day in good weather .
Advanced 51 VQT0V 10 • The flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF [] . • ISO sensitivity is fixed to [ISO80]. • Y ou cannot set t he slow shutter .
Advanced 52 VQT0V1 0 Press [ ] to d isplay the [SCENE M ODE] menu and se lect a scene mode. (P48) This mode allows you to t ake beautif ul pictures of fireworks e xploding in the night sky . ∫ T echniqu e f or Fi re wo rks mode • Since the shutter speed becomes slower , we recommend using a tripod.
Advanced 53 VQT0V 10 • The optical image stabilizer function is fix ed to [OFF]. • ISO sensitivity is fixed to [ISO80]. • Y ou cannot compensate the e xposure or set auto brac ket, burst mode. Press [ ] to displa y the [SCENE MODE] menu and select a scene mode.
Advanced 54 VQT0V1 0 • If the camera is set to [WITHOUT A GE], the age is not recorded e v en if the t ime and bir thday are set. This means the age cannot be display ed ev en i f the camera is set to [WIT H AGE] afte r tak ing th e pictures. • Use [RESET] in the [SETUP] men u to reset the bir thday setting.
Advanced 55 VQT0V 10 2 Press 3 / 4 to selec t [PICT .MO DE] and then press 1 . 3 Press 3 / 4 to select th e item and then pres s [MENU/SET]. • fps (fr ames per second ); This refers to the number of frames used in 1 second. • Y ou can record sm oother motion pictures with 30 fps.

Menu Settin gs 65 VQT0V 10 • Y ou cannot set the slo w shutter in [NIG HT SCEN ERY], [FIRE WORKS] and [ST ARRY SKY] in scene mode. Press [ ] to display the [REC] mode menu and select the item to set. (P59) Select a color effect that matches the recording conditions and your image of the recording.

Connecting to other equ ipment 76 VQT0V1 0 • If you are connecting t he camera to a PC for t he first time, the required driv er is installed automatically so that the camera can be recognized b y Windows Plug and Play . The dr iv e then appears on the [My Computer] f older .
Connecting t o other equ ipment 77 VQT0V 10 • Do not use an y other USB connection cables except t he supplied one. • Do not disconnect the USB connection cable while [A CCESS] is displa yed. • If batter y power is e xhausted while the camera and the PC are communicating, the recorded data ma y be damaged.
Connecting to other equ ipment 78 VQT0V1 0 • Connect the USB connection cable with the [ ] mar k facing the [ 1 ] mark on the [DIGIT AL] soc ket. • Hold the USB connection cable at C and inser t straight in or t ake straight out. 3 Press 4 to select [Pict B ridge (PTP)] and then press [MENU/SET].
Connecting t o other equ ipment 79 VQT0V 10 • Items not supported by the printer are display ed in gra y and cannot be selected. • When you w ant to print pictures in a paper size or a lay out which is not suppor ted by the cam era, set [ P APER SIZ E] or [P AGE LA Y OUT] to [ ] and then set the paper size or the la yout on the printer .
