Preparation 13 VQT0Q 58 About the Batt eries ∫ Usable batteries ¢ The o xyride batter y is a ne w type of non-rechargeable battery de veloped b y P anas onic. Oxyride batteries have higher power and more stability to handle the higher load on the batteries, compared to conv ent ional alkaline batteries.
Prepara tion 14 VQT0Q58 ∫ Unusable batteries • Operations by using t he batteries listed abov e are not guaranteed. If the batteries listed abov e are used, leakages can result and the following malfunctions can occur ; – Remaining battery power may not be display ed accurate ly .
Preparation 15 VQT0Q 58 • As the ambient temperature is low [10 o C (50 o F) or less], the performance of the batteries will be deteriorated and t he av ailable recording/playback time becomes extremely short. This is normal. Alkaline batteries signi ficantly show such tendencies.

When y ou do not use bat teri es f or a lo ng period of time • When the bat teries are left inser ted in the camera, the bat teries are discha rged since a we ak electric cur rent is passed ev en if the camera is turned off.

Recording pictu res (advanced) 61 VQT0Q 58 This mode allows you to take a picture according to the atmosphere of the situation (e.g. a w edding reception, a party in a room, etc.). Both the people and the background can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slowing down the shutter speed.
Recording Me nu Setting s 62 VQT0Q58 Recording Menu Settings Using the [REC] mode men u Setting the hue, picture quality adjustment, etc. allows y ou to create wide v ariations on taking pictures.
Recording Menu Settings 63 VQT0Q 58 This function allows y ou t o reproduce a white color closer to the tone in real lif e on the pictures recorded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. in which the white color may appear reddish or b luish. • When setting the white balance to the mode ex cept [A UT O], y ou can finely adjust the white ba lance.

Recording Menu Settings 65 VQT0Q 58 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values . If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automatically adjusted from [ISO64] to [ISO200] according to the brightness.
Recording Me nu Setting s 66 VQT0Q58 Y ou can select 2 types of quali ty (compression rate) according to the usage of the picture. • Pictures may appear like a mosaic depending on the s ubject or the recording condition. • The number of recordable pictures depends on t he subject.
Recording Menu Settings 67 VQT0Q 58 • When setting to 3-area-focusing, pictures may become still while being f ocus ed on, howe v er , th is is not a malfunction. • When using the digital zoom or when you take pictures in dar k places, the AF area is display ed on the center of the screen with a size wider than usual.
Recording Me nu Setting s 68 VQT0Q58 It is possib le to further magnif y a subject already magnified 3 times with the opt ical zoom 4 more times with the digital zoom, thereby reaching a maximum of 12 times.

Playback (ad vanced) 72 VQT0Q58 2 Select the direction to rot ate the picture. • When you pla y back pict ures on a PC, you cannot play back pictures keeping the rotated direction without an OS or software compatible with Exif .
Playback (advan ced) 73 VQT0Q 58 ∫ Singl e sett ing Select the pictur e and set the number of prints. • The number of prints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF print setting is canceled.

(P 86) • DPOF is an abbreviati on of Digital Pr int Order Format. T his feature allo ws you to write print information into the media and to use s uch information on the DPOF-com pliant system.

Playback (ad vanced) 80 VQT0Q58 • If you cop y the data from the buil t-in memor y to the card, we recommend using a card which has more free space than the built-i n memor y (about 14 MB). • If a picture having t he same name as the name of picture to be copied e xists in t he copy destination, the picture will not be copied.

Format them when the m essage [BUIL T -IN MEMOR Y ERROR] or [MEMOR Y CARD ERROR] appears. • If the bui lt-in memor y or the card has been f orm atted b y a PC or other equipment, f orm at it on the camera again.

Connecting to a PC or Prin ter 89 VQT0Q 58 ∫ Setting th e date printing with the DPO F prin t in advan ce When the printer supp ort s the date printing by DPOF setting, we rec ommend setting the date printing with the DPOF print in advance. (P73) The recording date can be printed by sel ecting [DPOF PICTURE] to star t printing.
