For each operation, be s ure to refer to the correspond ing pages. 1 Insert the batteries. Prepara tion 12 VQT0Q78 About the Ba tteries ∫ Usable batteries ¢ The o xyride batter y is a ne w type of non-rechargeable battery dev e loped by P anasonic. Oxyride batteri es hav e higher power and more stability to handle the higher load on the batteries, compared to conv entional alkaline batt eries.
Preparation 13 VQT0Q 78 ∫ Unusable batteries • Operations b y using the batter ies listed abov e are not guaranteed. If the ba tteries listed abov e are used, leakages can result and the f ollowing malfunctions can occur ; – Remaining batter y pow er may not be displa yed accurately .
Prepara tion 14 VQT0Q78 • As the ambient temperature is low (10 o C or less), the performance of the b atteries will be deter iorated and the av ailab le recording/playbac k time becomes extremely short . This is normal. Alkaline batteries s ignificantly show such tendencies.
Preparation 15 VQT0Q 78 • The battery life diff ers depending on the condition stored or used or environment. When you do not use batteries for a long per iod of time • When the batteries are left i ns er ted in the camera, the batteries are discharged since a weak electric current is passed ev en if t he camera is tur ned off.
Prepara tion 16 VQT0Q78 Recordable number in low temperatures (In normal picture mode) (T empe rature: 0°C/Other recording conditions comply with CIP A st andard) • Please note that the perf or mance of the oxyride batteries and the alkaline batteries significantly decreases in low temperature conditions.

Preparation 21 VQT0Q 78 Appr o ximate n umber of rec or dab le pictures and the size • If you select a larger picture size, you can print pictures clearly . When you select a smaller picture size , you can record m ore pictures. • The numbers are approximations.
Prepara tion 22 VQT0Q78 Setting Date /Time (Cloc k Set) ∫ Init ial se ttin g The clock is not set w hen the camera is shipped. When you turn the camera on, the fol lowing screen appears. • When pres sing the [MENU] button, the screen shown in step 1 appears.

The subjects such as people become dar k when pictures are recorded in backlight. Playback (basic) 51 VQT0Q 78 Deleting Pic tures When a card is not inser ted, the pic ture data in the b uilt-in memory will be deleted. When a card is inser ted, the picture data in the card will be deleted. (P19) ∫ T o delete a single picture 1 Select the pic ture to be deleted.

On other operations in this mode, the camera wor ks the same as the norm al picture mode [ ].
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 54 VQT0Q78 This mode allows y ou to record motion images. 1 Select [MO TION RA TE]. • [10fps]: Recording motion images for a longer time is a vail able though the quality will be less tha n the quality recorded at [30fps].

Recording pictures (ad vanced) 58 VQT0Q78 This mode allows you to take a picture of a wide landscape. The camera f ocu ses on a distant subject pref erentially . • The f ocus range is 5 m – ¶ . • The ISO sensitivity is fix ed to [A UT O]. • The flash setting is fix ed to Forced OFF [] .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 59 VQT0Q 78 This mode allows you to take pictures against a night landscape. The subject can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slowing down the shutter speed. ∫ T echnique for Night portrait mode • Use the flash.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 60 VQT0Q78 This mode allows y ou to take a picture according to the atmosphere of the situation (e.g. a wedding reception, a party in a room, etc.). Both the people and the bac kground can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slo wing down the shutter speed.
Recording Menu Settings 61 VQT0Q 78 Recording Menu Se ttings Using the [REC] mode menu Setting the hue, picture quality adjustm ent, etc. allows you to creat e wide variations on taking pictures.
Recording Me nu Setting s 62 VQT0Q78 This function allows you to reproduc e a white colour closer to the tone in real life on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. i n which the white colour may appear reddish or bluish. • When setting the white balance to t he mode except [A UTO], you can finely adjust the white balance .
Recording Menu Settings 63 VQT0Q 78 ∫ Setting the White Balance manual ly (Whit e set ) Use this mode when you w ant to set the white balance manually .
Recording Me nu Setting s 64 VQT0Q78 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automat ically adjusted from [ISO64] to [ISO200] according to the brightness.
Recording Menu Settings 65 VQT0Q 78 Y ou can se lect 2 types of quality (compression rate) according to the us age of the picture. • Pictures may appear like a mosaic depending on the subjec t or the recording condition. • The number of recordable pictures depends on the subject.
Recording Me nu Setting s 66 VQT0Q78 • When setting to 3-area-focusing, pictures may become still while being focused on, howe ver , this is not a malfunction. • When using the digital zoom or when you take pictures in dark places, the AF area is display ed on the centre of the screen with a size wider t han usual.
Recording Menu Settings 67 VQT0Q 78 It is possible to fur ther m agnify a subject already magnified 3 times with the optical zoom 4 more times with the digital zoom, thereby reaching a maximum of 12 times .

Playback (advan ced) 69 VQT0Q 78 Usi ng th e [PLA Y] mode menu Y ou can us e various functions in playback mode such as a rotating function or protections f or recorded pictures. • When rotating the zoom lev er toward T or W , the page of the menu screen can be f orwarded or re versed.
Playback (ad vanced) 70 VQT0Q78 This mode allows y ou to display pictures recorded by holding the camera ver tically or pictures rotated in [R O T A TE] function in the rotated direction. 1 Select [ON] to set it. • When you select [OFF], the pictures are display ed without being rotated.
Playback (advan ced) 71 VQT0Q 78 2 Select the dire ction to r otate the picture. • When you pla y back pictures on a PC , you cannot play back pictures keeping the rotated direction without an O S or softw are compatib le with Exif .
Playback (ad vanced) 72 VQT0Q78 ∫ Single s etting Select the picture and set the number of prints . • The number of pr ints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF pr int setting is cancelled.
Playback (advan ced) 73 VQT0Q 78 • DPOF print setting is a con v enient function when you print pictures with printers suppor ting PictBr idge. (P85) • DPOF is an ab breviation of Digital Print Order F orm at. This f ea ture allows you to write print inf ormation into the media and to use such inf ormation on the DPOF-compliant sys tem.

Playback (ad vanced) 78 VQT0Q78 Use this function when y ou want t o cop y recorded picture dat a from the built-in memor y to the c ard and vice versa. 1 Select the direction to cop y the picture data. •: All pictures are copied from the built-in memor y to the card at one time .
Playback (advan ced) 79 VQT0Q 78 • If y ou copy the data from the b uilt-in memor y to the card, we recomm end using a card which h as more free space than the built-in memor y (about 14 MB ). • If a picture having the same name as the name of picture to be copied exists in the cop y destination, the picture will not be copied.
Playback (ad vanced) 80 VQT0Q78 • Usually , it is not necessar y to format the built-in memory and the card. Format them when the message [BUIL T -I N MEMOR Y ERROR] or [MEMOR Y CARD ERROR] appears. • If the built-in memor y or the card has been formatted by a PC or ot her equipment, format it on the cam era again.
