- 13 - Before Use At the time when this camera is purchased, the LCD monitor is st owed in the camera body . Bring out the LCD monitor as shown below . 1 Open the LCD monitor . (Maximum 180 o ) 2 It can be rot ated 180 o forwards. 3 Return the monitor to its original pos ition.
- 14 - Before Use Note • Be careful as thi s unit may get scratched if you rotate the LCD monitor withou t opening the LCD mo nitor fully . • When not using t he LCD monitor it is recommende d that you close it with t he scree n fa c ing inwa rds to prevent dirt and sc rat ches.

- 17 - Prepar ation Att achin g the Lens Hood (DMC-FZ200) In bright sunlight or back light, the lens hood will minimize lens flare and g hosting. The lens hood cuts of f excess lighting and improves the picture quality . • Check that th e cam era is turned off.
- 18 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and bat t er y . • The batter y is not char ged when th e camera is shipped. Charge the batte ry before use. • Charge the bat tery with the c harg er indoors.
- 19 - Prepar ation ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicat or The [CHARGE] indicator turns on: The [CHARGE] indicator is turned on during charging. The [CHARGE] indicator turns off: The [CHARGE] indicator will turn off once the charging has completed without any problem.

- 22 - Prepar ation Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/t he Battery • T urn this unit of f and confirm that t he lens barrel is ret racted. • We rec ommend us ing a P anasonic card. 1 Slide the r elease le ver in the direction of the arrow and o pen the card/b attery door .
- 23 - Prepar ation About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Y ou can copy the r eco r ded pictur es to a card. (P175 ) • The access time fo r the b uilt-in memo ry may be longer than the access t ime for a c ard.
- 24 - Prepar ation The following card s which conform to t he SD video s t andard can be used with this unit. (These cards are indicated as card in the te x t.) ¢ SD S peed Class is the speed st andard regarding continu ous writing. Check via the lab el on the card, e tc.

- 26 - Prepar ation ∫ A vai lable recording time (whe n recording motion pictures) • “h” is an abbreviat ion for hour , “m” for minute and “s” for secon d. • [A VCHD] (DMC-FZ 200) (DMC-FZ 60) • [MP4] (DMC-FZ 200) (DMC-FZ 60) Note • The recordabl e time is th e total t ime of all the motio n pictures which have been rec orded.
- 27 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shipped. 1 T urn the camera on. • The power lamp 1 lig hts when you turn t h is unit on. • If the lang uage selec t s c reen is not dis pla y ed, pr oc eed to ste p 4 .
- 28 - Prepar ation Select [Clock Set] in the [Rec] or [Setup] menu, and press 1 . (P52) • The clock can be reset as shown in steps 5 and 6 . • The clock setting i s maintained for 3 months using the bu ilt-in clock battery even without the battery .
- 29 - Prepar ation Tip s for t aking g ood pictures ∫ Direction Detection Funct ion ([Rotate Disp.]) Pictures recorded with the camera held vertica lly are playe d back vertic ally (rotated).
- 30 - Basic Selecting the Recording Mode Switching the mode by r ot ating the mode dial. Align a des ir e d m ode wit h part A . • Rota te the mode dial slo wl y to select the desired mode. ∫ Basic ∫ Advanced Program AE Mode (P31) The subjects are recorded using your own settings.
- 31 - Basic T aking Pictures with Y our Favori te Settings (Program AE Mod e) Recording mo de: The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in [Rec] menu.
- 32 - Basic In Program AE Mode, you can change the pres et aperture value and shutter speed without changing the exposure. This is called Program Shift. Y ou can make the bac kground more blurr ed by decreasing the aperture value or record a moving subject more dynamically by slowing the shutter speed when taking a picture in Program AE Mode.
- 33 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and then pres s the shutter button halfway . • The AF area may be disp layed larger for cert ain zoom magnif ic ations and in dark places.
- 34 - Basic ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom. • The focus range is displaye d in red whe n it is not focused after pressing the s hutter button halfway . The focus range may change gradually depending on the zoom posi tion.
- 35 - Basic T aking Pictures Using th e Automatic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording mo de: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this m ode for beginners or those who want to leave the s ettings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 36 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its color c hanges to the usual red. When takin g pictures When re cordin g motion pi ctures • [ ¦ ] is set if no ne of the sc ene s are applicable, and t he s tandar d settings are set.
- 37 - Basic When there is a backlight, the su bject appears darker and the camera will aut omatically attempt to correct it by increasing the brightness of the picture. In Intelligent Auto Mode, backlight compe nsation works automatically . T he [ ] is displayed on the screen w hen backlighting is detected.
- 38 - Basic Following menus can be set. • For the setting metho d of the menu, refe r to P52 . ¢ Avai lable set tings may be diff er ent f r om ot her Recording Modes. ∫ [Color Mod e] [Color Mode] can set the color effect s of [ST ANDARD], [Happy], [B&W] or [SEPIA].
- 39 - Basic • Open the flash wh en the flash is to be used. (P75) • When [ ] is selec ted, [ ], [ ], [ ] or [ ] is set de pending on the type of su bject and brightness . • When [ ], [ ] is set , Red-Eye Remov al is enabled . • Shutter speed will be slower du ring [ ] or [ ].
- 40 - Basic 1 Press the rear dial to display the options. 2 Press 3 / 4 to select the item 3 Press 2 / 1 or rotate the rear dial to adjust. • Press [ ] to reset th e se tti n g to the de fa u l t state (A UTO). 4 Press [MENU/SET] or the rear dial to set.
- 41 - Basic Recording Motion Pictures Applicable mode s: This can reco rd full high definition motion pictures com patible with the A VC HD format or m otion pictures record ed in MP4. Audio will be recorded in stereo. 1 S t art recordi ng by p ressing the mo tion pic ture button.
- 42 - Basic ∫ About the recording format for recording motion pictures This unit can rec ord motion pictures in eit her A VCHD or MP4 formats. A VCHD: Y ou can r ecord high definition quality images with this format . It is suitable for viewing on a large fo r mat TV or for saving to di s c.
- 43 - Basic Note • Built-i n memory can only store dat a as the [VG A] of [ M P4]. • The available re c ordin g time di splayed on the screen may no t de c reas e reg ularly . • Depending on th e typ e of t he ca rd, the c ard ac ces s indi catio n may a ppea r for a while aft er record ing motion pict ure s .
- 44 - Basic S till pictures can be recorded even while recording a motion picture. (simult aneous recording) During motion pi cture rec ording , p ress the s hutter button fully to reco rd a s till picture.
- 45 - Basic Playing Back P ictures ([Normal Play] ) Press [ ( ]. ∫ T o finish playback Press [ ( ] again, press the motion picture button or press the shutter button halfway .
- 46 - Basic Rot ate the z oom lever towa rds [ L ] (W). 1 screen > 12 scr eens > 30 screens > Calendar screen display • Rotate the zoom lever towa rds [ Z ] (T) to retu rn to the prev ious screen . • Pictures displa yed using [ ] cannot be pla y ed back.
- 47 - Basic Playing Back M otion Pictures This unit was designe d to play motion pictures using the A VCHD, MP4 and QuickTime Motion JPEG f ormats. ∫ Operations performed during Moti on Pictu re Playback The cursor displayed during playback is the same as 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 .
- 48 - Basic Y ou can create a single still picture from a recorded motion picture. 1 Press 3 to pa use motion picture pla yback. 2 Press [MENU/SET]. • Confirmatio n screen is dis played. It is ex ecuted when [Y es] is select ed. Exi t th e m en u after it is ex ecu t ed.
- 49 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered. • Pictures on t he bui lt-in memory or the card, whic h are being pl ay ed back will be dele ted. • Pictures th at are not in the DCF st andar d or those tha t are protected canno t be deleted.
- 50 - Basic By using [Delete Multi], you can delete up t o the following number of pictures. Note • Do not turn the came ra of f while deleting. Use a bat t ery w ith suff icient battery power or the AC adaptor (opt ional). • Depending on th e number of pic t ures to be deleted, it may take s ome t ime to delete them.
- 51 - Basic Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you t o choose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back as you like.
- 52 - Basic • If you set [ Menu Resume] (P 67) in the [Set up] menu to [O N], the scre en shows the last select ed menu item when the camera was turned of f. Example: In the [ Rec] menu, cha nge [AF Mode] from [ Ø ] (1-area-f ocusing) to [ š ] (Face Detection) 1 Press [MENU/SET].
- 53 - Basic ∫ Switch ing to other menus e.g.: Switching to the [ Setup] menu from [Rec] menu 1 Press 2 . 2 Press 4 or rotate the rear dial to select the [Setup] menu ico n [ ].

- 55 - Basic About the Setup Menu [Clock Set], [Econo my] and [Auto Rev iew] are important items. Chec k their settings before using them. • Refer to P27 for details . • Press 3 if you are using Summer T ime [ ]. (The time will move for ward by 1 hour .

- 57 - Basic • When you conn ec t the c amera t o a TV , the volu me of t he TV spe ak ers do es not chang e. Also, when connected , no sound is output from t he camera speakers. • Refer to P127 f or detail s . • At the ti m e of pur c h as e, AF/A E Lock is sel e ct ed .
- 58 - Basic • It will adjust the LCD monit or when the LCD monitor is in use, and the viewfinder when the viewfi nder is in use. • Some sub jects may a ppear diff erently from actualit y on t he L CD monito r/viewfinder . Howeve r , this does not af fect the recorded pic tures.
- 59 - Basic • Refer to P69 for details . • When you a lign the s ubject on t he h orizon tal and vert i ca l gu ideli nes or th e cros s po int of th ese lin es , you can t ake pictu res wit h wel l-des igned compos ition by viewing th e siz e, th e sl ope and t he balanc e of the subject.
- 60 - Basic • When the recorded picture an d the histogram do not match each other under the following conditions, the histogram is displayed in orange.
- 61 - Basic • Set to [O N] to di spla y th e [E xp o. M et e r] whe n co rre cti n g exp os ure, perform ing Progra m Shift, s etting aperture, and set ting s hutter speed. • Unsuitable areas of t he range are displayed in red. • When [E xpo.Meter] is not displaye d, switch the display inform ation for screen by pressing [DISP .
- 62 - Basic • MF position will be memorized in the followin g cases: – T urning t h e camera of f – When switchin g to a type of focus other than Manual Focus – When switched to Playback Mode • Zoom position will be set all the way to wide when the [Zoom Resume] is set to [OFF].
- 63 - Basic • Press the sh utter button halfway or turn th e camera of f and on to ca nc el [Slee p Mode] . • [Sleep Mo de] is set to [5MIN.] in t he Intelligent Auto Mode. • Press any but t on to turn on the LCD monitor aga in. • [Sleep Mo de] does not work i n the foll owing cases .
- 64 - Basic • [Auto Rev i ew] is activa ted rega rdles s of it s setting in the f ollowing cases. – When using Au to Bracket – During t he Bur s t Mode • The Auto Review f unction is fix e d to [2 SEC. ] in the followin g cases. – Intelligent Auto Mode • [Auto R eview] does n ot work when recording moti on pi ctures.
- 65 - Basic • When the [Res et ] setting is selected during record ing, the operation th at resets the lens is also performed at t he same t i me. Y ou will hear the so und o f the lens operating bu t this is normal and not indicativ e of malfunctioning.
- 66 - Basic • This will work whe n the HDMI mini cable (optiona l) is connect ed. • Refer to P178 f or detail s . • This will work whe n the HDMI mini cable (optiona l) is connect ed. • Refer to P180 f or the method to playback 3D pict ures in 3D.
- 67 - Basic • Refer to P45 for informatio n about how t o play back pictures. • When you play bac k pictur es on a PC, t hey cannot be dis played in t he rotated direc tio n unless the OS or software is compat ible with Exif. Exif is a file format for still pictures which allows recordin g informatio n, etc.
- 68 - Basic • Use a battery wit h suf fic ien t batt ery power or the AC ada ptor (opt io nal) when for matt in g. Do not tu rn the camera of f durin g for matting. • If a card has bee n inserted, only the card is for matted. T o format the built -in memo ry , remove the car d.
- 69 - Recording About the LCD Monitor/Viewfinder Press [DISP .] to change. • When the menu sc re en appears, the [D I SP .] button i s not activa te d. During Playback Zoom, while play ing back Motion Pictures and during a Slide Show , you can only s elec t E or G .

- 71 - Recording T aking Pictures with the Zoom Applicable mode s: Y ou can zoom in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom out to record landscapes in wide angle. Extended Optical Zoom works except when the maximum recordable pixels are set.
- 72 - Recording (DMC-FZ200) ∫ Control the zoom w ith the side lever Using the side lever to control the zoom when taking pictures with the Viewfinder is useful fo r reducing shaking as the camera can be kept stable. Using the side lever can also increas e techniques used for taking pictures.
- 73 - Recording ∫ T yp es of zooms ¢ 1 This incl udes the optical zoo m magnificat ion. The magnificatio n level dif f ers depending on [Pic ture Size] setting . The zoom functions below can also be used to further increase the zoom magnification.
- 74 - Recording Note • The indica te d z oom magni fication is an approxima tion. • “EZ” is an abbrev iation of “Ex t ended Op tical Zoo m”. It is possible to ta ke more magnifi ed pictures wit h th e o pt ical z o om . • The lens barrel ex tends or re tract s according to the zoom pos it ion.
- 75 - Recording T aking Pictures using th e Flash Applicable mode s: ∫ T o open/close the flash Note • Be sure to clos e the flash when not in use. • The flas h setting is fixe d to [ Œ ] while the flash is clos ed. • Be careful not to catch a finger when closing a flash bulb.
- 76 - Recording Set the flash to match the recording. • Op en the flas h. 1 Select [Fla sh] in the [Rec] men u. (P52) 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect a mod e and then pre ss [MENU/SET].
- 77 - Recording ∫ A vai lable flash settings in Recording Mode The available flash settings depend on t he Recording Mode. ( ± : A vailable, —: Not avai lable, ¥ : Scene Mode initial setting) ¢ [ ] is displayed. • The flas h se tting may chan ge if the Recording Mode is cha nged.
- 78 - Recording ∫ The available flash range • The available f lash range is an appr oximation. ¢ 1 Wh e n th e [IS O Li m it Se t] (P138) is set to [AUTO]. ∫ Shutter speed for each flash setting ¢ 2 Wh en [Sensi tivity] i s set to [AUTO]. Th e shutter speed may vary d ependi ng on the [IS O Limit Set ] setting.
- 79 - Recording Compensating th e Exposure Applicable mode s: Use this function when you cannot achieve appr opriat e exposure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. Note • Set the va lue t o [0] when you do not comp ens ate the exposure.
- 80 - Recording T aking Pictures Using B urst Mode Applicable mode s: Pictures are taken continuously wh ile the shutter button is pressed. Burst speed can be selected to m atch the recording conditions or subjects. 1 Press [ ˜ ]. 2 Press 2 / 1 to s elect the burs t speed and then press [MENU/SET].

- 82 - Recording (DMC-FZ60) ¢ 1 The number of Burst recordi ng pic tures are limite d by the pi cture-taki ng conditions and t he ty pe and/or st atus of the card used . ¢ 2 This option is availa ble only in Program AE Mode , Ap erture- Prio rity AE Mode or Shutte r Prior ity AE mode.
- 83 - Recording Note • When [ ] , [ ] or [ ] is selected, the pictu re size setting will become as shown below . • When the Self -T imer is used, the number of re c ordab le pictures in Bu rst Mode is fixed to 3.
- 84 - Recording T aking Pictures with the Self-T imer Applicable mode s: 1 Press 4 [ ë ]. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the ite m and then p ress [MENU/SET].
- 85 - Recording Note • When you pres s the shutter but ton once fully , the subject is aut omat ically focused just before recording. In dark places, t he Self-timer indicator will blink and then may turn o n brightly o perating a s an AF Assis t Lamp to allow the camera to focus on the subje ct.
- 86 - Recording Setting the Light Sensitivity Applicable mode s: This allows the sens itivity to light (ISO sensitiv ity) to be set. Setting to a h igher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dar k places wi thout the resulting pictures c oming out dark.
- 87 - Recording ∫ About [ ] (Intelligent ISO sensitivity control) The camera dete c ts movement of t he subject and the n automatically sets the optimum ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to suit the movement of the subject and brightness of the scene to minimize the jitter of t he subject.
- 88 - Recording Adjusting the White Balan ce Applicable mode s: In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other s uch conditions where the color of whit e takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of wh ite which is closest to what is seen by the eye in accordance with the light source.
- 89 - Recording ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions prevailing when pictures are taken, the pictures ma y take on a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermore, when a mult iple number of l ight so urces are being used or there is nothing with a color c lose to white, Auto White Balance may not fu nction properly .
- 90 - Recording Y ou can finely adjust the White Balance when you cannot acquire the desired hue by setting the White Balance. 1 Select White Balance and then press 1 . • Press 1 again if [ ], [ ] or [ ] is selected. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to adjust the White Balance and then p ress [MENU/SE T].
- 91 - Recording Bracket setting is performed based on the adj ustment values for t he white balance fine adjustment, and 3 pictures with dif f erent colors are automatically re corded when the shut ter button is pressed once.
- 92 - Recording T aking Pictures with Auto Focus Applicable mode s: This allows the focusing method that suits t he posit ions and number of the subjects to be selected. 1 Set the camera to Auto Focus. 2 Select [AF M ode] on the [Rec] menu and then press 1 .
- 93 - Recording 3 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the Auto Focus Mode and then pres s [MENU/SET]. Note • It will be fixed to [ š ] when th e [Fac e Re cog.] i s set t o [ON ].
