Preparation 19 Attachi ng the Lens Hood When attaching the lens hood during the shining daytime , the sunshine is interrupted directly and y ou can take the beautiful pi cture. Y ou can prev ent the ghost and the flare by using the lens hood. [Preparation] • Check t hat the power s witch is set to [OFF] and the lens barrel is stored.
Preparation 20 ª T emporarily storing the lens h ood Y ou can store the lens hood in the camera temporarily . Please do not tak e a picture with the lens hood stored. [Preparation] • Check t hat the power s witch is set to [OFF] and the lens barrel is stored.
Preparation 21 Attachi ng the Strap 1 Press both si des of the cover to pu t the metal fitting out of the cover . 2 Rotate th e plastic par t of the metal fitting to the direction of the arr ow . • Please attach the plastic part to the metal fitting again if it detached.
Preparation 22 Attachi ng the Lens Cap When you t ur n the camera [OFF] or dra w back the lens, attach the supplied l ens cap to protect the surf ace of the lens . 1 Let the top of the string pass thro ugh the lens cap. 2 Let the oppos ite side of the string pass through the cir cular part of the string.
Preparation 23 Using the LCD Mo nitor/Vi e wfinder Every time you press the [DISPLA Y] button, the displa y of the LCD monitor/Vie wfinder changes as shown below . Preparation 24 The Sh utter Bu tton (Pressing ha lfw a y/Pressing ful ly) The shutter but ton is pressed in 2 steps: “pressing halfwa y” and “pressing fully”. Pressing halfway 1 • F o cus and e x posure are lock ed. Pressing fully 2 • The picture is captured.
Preparation 25 The Mo de Dial Y ou can choose a desired mode by the mode dial. : P laybac k (P64) Play back recorded images. : S imple mode (P31) Y ou can take pictures easily becau se the necess ary setting menus are m inimized. This mode is f or beginners.
Preparation 26 : Spor ts mode (P49) When you take pictures of outdoor spor ts , this mode let y ou capt ure the still action photo easily . : Panning mode (P50) P anning is a technique of moving the camera tr acking a subject in m otion.
Preparation 27 Opera ting the Men u By operating the menu, y ou can set the settings of REC or pla yback mode . Y ou can also set the dat e and time, the oper at ional sound and v arious other settings. F ollow these instructions. Recording imag es (basic) 30 • If y ou press t he shutter button fully at onc e, the shutter jiggle may occur or the f ocus may not be adjusted properly . • Ev en when the focus indication is display ed and the f ocus is properly adjusted, it will be cancelled if you release the shutter button.

Recording imag es (basic) 32 Che c kin g the Ca ptur ed Pict ure (Re v ie w) After taking a picture, when auto re view (P82) is set to [1SEC. ]/[3SEC.], the captured picture is displa yed on the LCD m onitor/Viewfinder f or about 1 or 3 seconds , but y ou can also check the picture by f o llowing t he methods shown below .

Recording imag es (basic) 37 : Forced OFF When you do not open the flash, this mode is set. Even i n dark places, the flash does not fire. Set it when you tak e pictures in plac es where using f lash is not allowed. In this time, the shutter speed is set between 1/8th and 1/2000th.

Recording ima ges (advance d) 50 T aking Pic t ures wi th the P anning Mode P anning is a technique of moving t he camera trac king a subject in motion. Using a slower shutter speed when trac king a subject, you can sharply photograph a subject in motion while b lurr ing the backg round.

(P25) 1 During pla yback, r otate th e zoom lever towar ds [ ]. • The more the zoom le ver rotates towards [ ], the more the zoom magnification ratio increases.

Editing 69 Editing Dele ting Images Images recorded on the card can be deleted. Once deleted, images ca nnot be recovered. [Preparation] • Set the mode dial to playback [ ]. (P25) • When an image is prot ected, it cannot be deleted. Cancel the protect setting.

Editing 71 Writing the Print Inf or mation in th e Card (DPOF Setting) It is possible to wr ite print information (DPO F data) on the card with t he images that you want t o print and the number of sheets. DPOF is an abbreviation of Digital Print Order F orm at.

Technical use 78 Resiz ing Record ed Pictures It is possible to reduce the recorded picture size . This function is useful if you want to reduce the volume of t he picture for attaching to an e-mail or uploading on web-site. [Preparation] • Set the mode dial to playback [ ].

Technical use 87 Pla ying Bac k Images with a TV Monitor By connecting the camera to a television via the supplied A/V cable 1 , it is possible to view and play bac k the recorded images. [Preparation] • T urn the camera and the television off . 1 Connect the A/V cable 1 to the A/V OUT socket of the camera.
Technical use 88 Connec ting t o a PC [Preparation] • If y our PC us es Microsoft Windows ® 98 or 98SE, a USB driver must be install ed from the CD that is included. If you ar e using a newer Microso ft operating system such as W indows Me, Windows 2000, or W indows XP (Home Edition/ Professional), no USB dr iver needs to be installed.
Technical use 89 USB DIRECT -P RINT By connecting the camera to a printer correspo nding to USB DIRECT -PRINT via the supplied USB connec tion cabl e, it is possib le to print directly . (Please ask the manuf acturer of the printer about the corresponding models) 1 Insert th e Memory Card into the camera, and turn the power switch to [ON].
