VQT1 S07 12 Preparation About the Battery (ch arging/number o f recordable pictures) ∫ Battery indication The battery indication is displayed on t he LCD monitor . [It does not appear when you use the camera wit h the AC adaptor (DMW-AC5G; optional) connected.
13 VQT1 S07 Preparatio n Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/t he Battery • Check that this unit is turn ed off . • We reco mmend using a Pan asonic card. Slide the re lease leve r in the direction of the arrow and open the ca rd/batter y door .
VQT1 S07 14 Preparation About the Built-in Mem ory/the Card • Memory size: Approx. 50 MB • Recordable motion pictures: QVGA (320 k 240 pixel s) only • The built-in memory can be used as a te mporary stora ge device when the card being use d becomes full.
15 VQT1 S07 Preparatio n Note • Do not turn this unit off, remove it s battery or card or disconnect the AC adaptor (DMW-AC5G; optional) w hen the access indication is lit [when pictures are being read or deleted or the built-in memory or the card is being formatted (P23)].
VQT1 S07 16 Preparation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when th e camera is shipped. Press [MENU/SET]. Press 2 / 1 to selec t the i tems (year , month, day , hour , minute, d isplay seque nce or time display format), and press 3 / 4 to s et.
17 VQT1 S07 Preparatio n Select [ CLOCK SET ] in the [ REC] or [S ETUP] me nu, and press 1 . (P 18) • It can be changed in steps 3 and 4 to set t he clock. • The clock set ting is maintained for 3 months u sing the built-in cloc k battery even without the battery .
VQT1 S07 18 Preparation ∫ Functio ns that can not be s et or wil l not wo rk under som e condit ions Due to the camera’s specifications, it may not be possible to set some of the functions or some functions may not work in som e of t he conditions under which the camera is used.

VQT1 S07 20 Preparation Perform thes e settings if you need to. About the Setup Menu [CLOCK SET], [ECONO MY] and [AUTO REVIEW] are important items. Check their settings before using t hem. • In the Intellig ent auto mode, only [C LOCK SET] , [WORLD TIME], [TRA VEL DA TE], [BEEP] and [LANGUAG E] can be set.
21 VQT1 S07 Preparatio n • The br ightness of the pict ures d isplayed on the LCD monitor i s incre ased so some subject s may appear dif ferently from act uality on th e LCD monitor .
VQT1 S07 22 Preparation • The auto review f unction is activated regardles s of it s setting when using aut o bracket (P4 3), [HI-SPEED BURS T ] (P49) and [FLASH BURST] (P49) in sc ene mode, burs t mode (P64) and when recording still picture s with audio (P66 ).

VQT1 S07 30 Basic [REC] mode: ñ·¿n¨ T aking Pictures with the Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to m ake people and objects appear closer or zoom-out to record landscapes in wide an gle. T o make subj ects appear even closer [maximum of 8.9 k ], do not set the picture size to the highest setting for each aspect ratio ( X / Y / W ).
31 VQT1 S07 Basic ∫ Extra optical zoom mechani sm When you set the picture size to [ ] (3 million pixels), the 10M (10.1 m illion pixels) CCD area is cro pped to the centr e 3M (3 m illion pixels) area, allowing a p icture with a higher zoom effect.

VQT1 S07 36 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) ∫ About the Histogram A histogram is a graph that displays brightne ss along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixels at each bright ness level on the v ertical axis. It allows you t o easily check a picture’s exposure.

VQT1 S07 38 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) ∫ About the d igit al red-eye correction When the flash is used with the R ed-eye r eduction ( [ ], [ ], [ ] ) selected, it will automatically detect and correct the re d-eye in the image data. ¢ It may not be able to co rrect the red-eye depen ding on th e recordi ng conditions .

VQT1 S07 40 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) [REC] mode: ·n T aking Close-up Pictures This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking p ictures of flowers. Y ou can take pictures of a subject as c lose as 5 cm from the lens by rotating the zoom lever upm ost to Wide (1 k ).
41 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) [REC ] mo de: ñ·¿¨ T aking Pictures with the Self-timer Note • When using a t ripod etc. , setti ng the self -timer to 2 seconds is a conv enient way to avoid the jitter caus ed by pressin g the shutter butt on.
VQT1 S07 42 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) [REC] mode: ·¿n¨ Compensating the Ex posure Use this function when you cannot achieve ap propriate exposure due to the difference in brightness between t he subject and the backg round. Look at t he following examples.
43 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) [REC ] mo de: ·¿ T aking Pictures using A uto Bracket In this mode, 3 pictures are automatical ly recorded in the selected exposure compensation range each time the shutter button is pressed. Y ou can select the picture with the desired exposure from the 3 p ictures with diff erent exposures.
VQT1 S07 44 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) [REC] mode: ¿ T aking pictures that match the scene being recorded ( ¿ : Scene mode) When you s elect a scene mode to m atch the subject and recording situation, the ca mera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the d esired picture.
45 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode enables the texture of their skin to appear even softer t han with [PORTRAIT]. (It is eff ective when taking pictures of people from the chest up.
VQT1 S07 46 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) • The zoom magni ficatio n is auto matically moved to Wide (1 k ). • The self-timer can only be set to of f or 2 seconds. If it is set to 2 seconds, th is setting will remain until the camera is turned of f, the scene mode i s changed or [REC] mode or [PLA YBACK] mode is se lecte d.
47 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) • Noise may become visible when you t ake pictures in dark pla ces. This mode allows you to t ake pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc. Note • The focus rang e becomes the same as macro mode.
VQT1 S07 48 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) • When the bi rthday or na me is set, [AGE ] or [NAME] is automat ically se t to [ON]. • If [ON] is se lected when the birth day or name has not be en registered, the setting s creen appears automa t ically .
49 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) Note • [QUA LITY] is au toma tically fixed t o [ › ]. • Y o u can take pictures suitable for 4 qk 6 q /10 k 15 cm pri nting. • The focus rang e becomes the same as macro mode. [5 cm (Wide)/ 1 m (T ele) to ¶ ] This is a convenient mode for shooting rapid movement or a decisive moment.
VQT1 S07 50 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) • The fo cus range becomes the s ame as macro mod e. [5 cm (Wide)/ 1 m (T ele) to ¶ ] • The focus, zoom, expos ure, shut ter speed , ISO sensitivity , and flas h level are fix ed to the setting s for the fir st picture.
51 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) Note • The initial setting for [AF MODE] is [ š ]. • Do not touc h the camera wit h wet hands. • Sand or seawa ter will caus e the camera t o malfuncti on. Make sure t hat sand or seawa ter does not get int o the lens or the termina ls.
VQT1 S07 52 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) Picture is taken with a grainy te xture as though blasted with sand. ∫ Picture size and aspect ratio Use the m arine case (DMW-MCF X35; optional). This allows you to take pictures wit h a natural colour .

VQT1 S07 56 Advanced (Reco r ding picture s) ∫ Cancelling the travel date The travel date is automatically cancelled if t he current date is af t er the return date. If you want to cancel the travel date before the end of the vacation, select [OFF] on the screen shown in step 3 or 7 and t hen press [MENU/SET] twice.

71 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Playback) [PLA YBACK] m ode: ¸ Advanced (Playback) Playing Back P ictures in Sequence (Slide Show) Y ou can play ba ck the pictures you have taken in synchronisat ion with music, and you can do this in sequence while leaving a fixed interval between each of the pictures.

73 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Playback) [PLA YBACK] m ode: ¸ Selecting Pictu res and Playing them Bac k ([CA TEGOR Y PLA Y]/[F A VORITE PLA Y]) This mode allows you to search images b y scene mode or other categories (such as [PORTRAIT], [SCENERY] or [NIGHT SCENERY]) and sort the pic tures into each of the categories.
VQT1 S07 74 Advanced (Pl ayback) Y ou can play back the pictures you have set as [F A V ORITE] (P84) (Only when [F A VORIT E] is set to [ON] and there are pict ures which have been set to [F A VORITE]). 81 VQT1 S07 Advanced (Playback) Note • Y ou can set up to 50 pict ures at one ti me in [MUL TI]. • The picture quali t y of the resized picture will det eriorate. • It may not be poss ible to resiz e picture s recorded with ot her equipm ent. Y ou c an enlarge and then clip the important part of the recorded picture.
