Ch arge the battery before use. • Charge the bat tery with the c har ger indoors. • Charge the bat tery in a te mperature between 10 o C to 35 o C (50 o F to 95 o F) .

VQT1 S36 22 Preparation This section describes how to select the program AE mode settings, and the same setting can be used for the [PLA YBA CK] menu and [SETUP] menu as well. Example: Se tting [AF MO DE] from [ Ø ] t o [ š ] in t he program AE mode • 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 in the step s can be operated with th e joystick too .

VQT1 S36 24 Preparation Perform thes e settings if you need to. About the Setup Menu [CLOCK SET], [ECONOMY ] and [AUTO REVIEW ] are important items. Check their settings before using t hem. • In the Intellig ent auto mode, only [CLOCK SET], [WORLD TIME], [TRA VEL DA TE], [ BEEP] and [LANGUAG E] can be set.

VQT1 S36 32 Basic [REC] mode : ñ Basic T aking pictures usin g the automatic function ( ñ : Intelligent Auto Mo de) The camera will set the most a ppropriate settings to m atch the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those wh o want to leave the settings to the c amera and take pictures easily .

VQT1 S36 36 Basic ∫ T o adjust the colors and t ake pictures at times when the image appears too red (P82) Aim the AF area at the subject, and then press the shutter button halfway .

VQT1 S36 38 Basic Y ou can make the ba ckground more blur red by decreasing the aperture value or rec ord a moving subject more dynamically by slowi ng the s hutter speed when taking a pic ture in program AE mode.
39 VQT1 S36 Basic ∫ Changing th e zoom speed Y ou can operate the zoom at 2 speeds depending on the r ot ation angle of the zoom lever . The zoom speed becomes slower when the rotation angle is small and t he zoom speed become s faster when the r otation angle is large.
VQT1 S36 40 Basic Not e • The digital zoom cannot be set when õ has been sel ected. • The indica ted zoo m magnification is an approxima tion. • “EZ” is an abbrev iation of “Ex t ended optical Zoom”. • The optical zoom is set to Wide (1 k ) when the c amera is turned on.

51 VQT1 S36 Advanced (Recor ding pictures) [REC ] m o de: T aking Close-up Pictures This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e. g. when taking pictures of flowers. Y ou can take pictures of a subject as close as 1 cm (0.04 feet) from the lens by rotating the zoom lever upmost to Wide (1 k ).
VQT1 S36 52 Advanced (Reco r ding pictures) • When a subjec t is close to t he c amera, the ef fective focus range is si gn ificantly narrowed . Therefor e, if t he dist a nce be twee n the c amera an d t he sub jec t i s change d af ter focusing o n t he subject, it may be come diffic ult to focus on i t again.

VQT1 S36 54 Advanced (Reco r ding pictures) [REC] mode : T aking Pictures usi ng Auto Bracket/ Color Bracket In this mode, 3 pictures ar e automatically recorded in the selected exposure compensation ra nge each time the shut ter button is pressed. Y ou can s elect the picture with the desired exp osure from the 3 pictures with different exposures.
