4 Inst allation Procedure Overview The following is an overview of the steps required to inst all and setup the camera. All step s are explained in th is document unless other wise noted. Preparat ion Confirm that yo u have al l the it ems req uired fo r installat ion.
5 Prep aration Confirm the followi ng items are inclu ded in the camera’s p ackaging. Main Unit (1 pc.) The app earance of you r camera depen ds on which model yo u have purcha sed. Screw A (6 pcs .) Order No. XTB4 + 20AFJ Used for wal l mounti ng the cam era.

9 Choosing an Inst allation Location Please read the following informat ion ab out the cam era’s motion detectio n feature and built- in sensor ( BL-C160 onl y) before decidin g where to mount th e camera. 11 Built-in Sensor (BL-C160 Only) The c amera’s built -in sen sor is a pyroe lectric i nfrared sensor , whic h means it us es infrar ed rays to detect te mperatur e difference s within i ts range that ar e emitted naturall y by peo ple, anim als, et c.
12 Detection Range Charac teristics of the Built-i n Sensor • The buil t-in sensor can easi ly detect tem perature ch anges when objects mov e sideway s in front of the camer a, but canno t easily detect temper ature ch anges when o bjects move to ward the f ront of the camera.
13 Mounting Location • Mount t he camera in a shel tered place w here it is not direc tly exposed to direc t sunli ght or the elements. • T o ensure that came ra im ages are display ed prop erly , do not mount the cam era on a ceiling . • Do not mou nt the camera upsi de down.
14 Recommended Inst allation Locations T op View Where it is easy to d etect people c oming o ff the street towards th e prope rty and where pas sing c ars do not cause inter ferenc e. It is eas ier to detect p eople when they pass in fro nt of the ca mera.

16 Light Brightness (BL-C160 Only) The ca mera feat ures a bu ilt-in light that can turn on auto maticall y when it is dark, or when the camera’s motion dete ction or se nsor feature s are triggered. The foll owing brightn ess levels are meas ured 3 m (9 feet 10 i nches) fro m the camer a.
17 Connection s Connect t he camer a to your r outer and to the power outlet as d escribed b elow . • Before p roceeding, c onfirm th at your PC is connecte d to your r outer and can access the Interne t. Also conf irm t hat your router ’s UPnP™ featu re is enab led.
18 Camera Mounting Caution • Do no t drive th e screws into a s oft materia l. Drive th e screws into a s ecure ar ea of the wall, such a s a colu mn, other wise the c amera ma y fall an d be da maged. • Make s ure you attach th e safety wire whe n mounting the camer a, to prevent the camer a from fallin g.
19 3 Mount the flexible st and firmly to the wall using sc rew A (included). • Do not driv e the screws i nto a soft materia l. Drive the sc rews into a sec ure area of th e wall, such a s a colu mn, othe rwise th e camera may fall and be damaged. • Use scre ws that ar e suited for the type of materi al the cam era is mou nted to.
20 5 Wra p the included foam strip around the cable, insert it into the opening of the right -angle joint , and then wra p at leas t the fi rst 50 mm (1 15/16 inches) of the cable using the include d self bonding t ape. • Leave a bout 10 mm ( 3/8 inc hes) of the fo am expos ed, as s hown.
21 8 Secure the safety wire to the wall us ing screw A (included) and washer L (included). • When m ounting to a har d surf ace like mortar or c oncrete, use an anchor to h elp sec ure the camera to the wall. • Leave s ome slack in the safety wire, as sho wn.
22 When mounting on a mort ar or concrete sur face • Prepare anch ors for 4 mm (3/ 16 inch) diameter screws f or mounti ng. A Place the flexible st and on the wall where you plan to mount th e flexible st and and mark the points wher e you are goin g to make h oles.
23 Adjusting Range and Sensitivity Preventi ng Sensor Interf erence (B L-C160 Only) If objects are inter fering with the bu ilt-in se nsor , us e one of the inclu ded sensor ra nge caps to cover the cor responding area of t he sensor.
24 Example 2 If there are i nterfer ing objec ts (such as hea t emitting d evices) bein g disp layed on b oth sides of the screen, u se cap 3 to b lock the parts of the sens or that ar e detectin g the int erferin g objects (in th is case on the left and r ight-han d sides).
25 Adjusting Motion Detection Sensitivity The se nsitivity of the moti on dete ction can be adjus ted to matc h the ins tallation env ironment. For more in formation , see 2.10 Adjusti ng Motion Detec tion S ensitiv ity in the Opera ting I nstruct ions on the CD-ROM.
26 Adjusting Sensor Sensitivity ( BL-C160 Only) By adj usting the sensitiv ity of the built-in s ensor , the dete ction range can cha nge in the following ways. The tem perature an d other qu alities of the cam era locatio n may affect th e detectio n range.
27 Sensor Range Ca ps (BL-C160 Only) When the re are objects that y ou do not want t o detect with the built-in sensor , a sen sor range cap can be a ttached to the c amera to control the detec tion rang e. There are 4 sensor range caps: the standard c ap (attached at th e time of purc hase), ca p 1, cap 2, and cap 3.
28 Detection Ranges for the Sensor Range Cap s Sensor r ange caps can be use d to prevent detect ions when the temper ature ch anges in certain areas of the detectio n range. Differi ng temperat ures will affect how fa r the sens or can detect wi thin the detec tion ran ge.
