4 W elcome to the OutBack P ower Sy stems FX Series Inverter/Charger Syst em The FX Series Inver ter/Charger o ers a complete power con version system—DC to A C, battery charging , and an AC T ransfer Relay—and can be used for stand-alone or back -up applications.
5 FX MODES AND PROPER TIES Each OutBack FX Inver ter/Charger comes with various default values set at the factory. T ypically, a single FX installation will retain these values, but multiple FXs will r equire programming using the OutBack MA TE. Viewing the status of an FX and adjusting its functions also requires a M A TE.
6 Use the search sensitivity screen to determine the size of an AC load needed f or the FX to turn ON and leave SEARCH mode. • Pr essing decreases sensitivity (a bigger load is needed to turn the FX.

9 ADV ANCED SCREENS All the FX operation settings can be adjusted in the MA TE’ s ADV ANCED screens, including some pr evi- ously discussed in the INPUT and SETUP menus. Changing the settings under any menu will a ect the values in all menus. The ADV ANCED screens are accessed via the passw ord 141 .

This programming manual assumes all FXs have been installed and are ready t o program accor ding to the way they were wired .

With all AC and DC breakers OFF , connect all FXs to the HUB with individual lengths of CA T5 cable . a) Connec t the OutBack MA TE after all other components, including any OutBack Charge C ontrollers, ha ve been connected and powered up .

22 3. After powering up the components, connect the MA TE t o the HUB. a) Plug the MA TE into the 1st MA TE Port on the HUB. b) The M A TE will pow er up and should recogniz e any component connected to the HUB . c) The MA TE can then pr ogram the FXs.

OutBack Series • 2-10 FXs are wired to two 120V A C output legs producing 240 V AC between them. • This system requires an FW -X240 or PSX -240 Auto T ransformer . • 240V AC can be produced on one leg if the load is ten amps or less; an FX on one leg can po wer loads on the other leg, helping to balance loads .
25 5. 3-Phase • Three —and only three— FXs are connected, one to each of thr ee 120 V AC output legs that produce 208 V AC between any two legs of the system. • The HUB requires a jumper between the two Slave FXs f or this stacking to func tion (see HUB Manual).
26 2. Classic Slave • Classic Slave is the desig nation of the second FX in a two-inver ter , split-phase system that pr oduces 240 V AC without using an FW- X240 Auto T ransformer .
27 Once the MA TE recognizes each FX (and Char ge Controller or C C ), push and hold the rst t wo soft keys simultaneously to return to the M AIN menu. T o pr ogram the FXs, go t o the ADV/FX/ST ACK menu on the MA TE navigating with the following steps: Pr ess .

T o use OutBack Slav e L2 stacking, press in the ADV/FX/ST A CK OB screen to change the stack phase from OB Slav e L1 to OB Slave L2.

33 Introduction to P ower Sav e Lev els Depending on the model, each FX consumes 20-25 watts of power when it r emains on, even if it isn ’t actively inverting or charging. OutBack P ower Systems o ers the option to shut down (put into Silent mode) some or all of the Slave FXs until the loads r equire them to come on again.

36 If the FX’ s AC source is available , the yellow AC IN ST A TUS light will blink . The FX will connect to the utility grid when the voltage is within 108-140V AC and the frequency between 54-66 H z. After about 30 seconds, the AC IN light should st op blinking and stay lit.
37 Stacking System Examples Dual-Stacked System U sing Classic Stacking • The system includes only two FXs and must be set up as described here. • The bottom FX Series I nverter/Charger is plugged into P or t 01 of the HUB and the next or second FX is plugged into P or t 02.

41 OutBack Series / P arallel Stacking OutBack Series/P arallel Stack ing is a versatile con guration for a system using between two and ten FXs with AC outputs connected to one of the two 120 V AC legs. Although it’ s acceptable to divide the FXs unevenly between the two 120 V AC legs, at least one FX must be on each leg.

50 LIST OF A UX FUNC TIONS • Cool F an activates the standard T ur boF an which cools the FX during an over temperatur e condition. • Divert DC and Divert AC allows the A UX to diver t excess r enewable energy to a DC or A C load, respectively . This allows control of ener gy sources such as wind turbines or hydr o- generators.
