For the best results, connect a center speaker . • Use FR ONT SPEAKERS B terminals to connect a second pair of front speakers. • This receiv er is designed to produce optimum sound quality when speakers with impedances within the specified ranges are con- nected.
11 P ositioning speaker s Speaker placement plays an important role in the reproduction of Surround sound. The placement of the speak ers varies depending on the size of the room and the wall cov erings used in the room. The illustration shows an e xample of a layout for standard speaker placement.
12 Making antenna connections Connecting the 300 ohm ribbon wir e: Loosen the screws and wrap the wire around these scre ws. Then tighten the screws with a scre wdri ver . Connecting the coaxial cable: 1. With your fingernail or a small scre wdriv er , press the stoppers outward and remov e the cover .
13 Making antenna connections Connecting the T -shaped FM antenna: The T -shaped FM antenna is for indoor use only . Extend the antenna and mov e it in v arious directions until the clearest signal is receiv ed. Fix it with push pins or similar implements in the posi- tion that will cause the least amount of distortion.

17 Selecting a sound sour ce Follo w the steps below to adjust the le vel of each speaker if you hav e selected MUL TI-CH INPUT . 1. Press MUL TI-CH INPUT button on the r emote controller . Y ou cannot select any Surround mode. 2. Press the CH SEL b utton to select the desired speakers.
18 Selecting a sound sour ce SPEAKERS A: This b utton turns on or off the speak ers connected to the FR ONT SPEAKERS A, CENTER SPEAKER, SURROUND SPEAKERS and SUBWOOFER terminals. When you select Dolby Pro Logic, Hall, Liv e, or Multi-CH INPUT , be sure to turn on SPEAKERS A.
19 Selecting a sound sour ce The sleep timer can turn off the po wer to the system after a speci- fied time period. T o set up this function, use the remote controller supplied with this receiv er . 1. Start playing the source y ou would like to listen to (CD, tape, or radio broadcast).
20 T o enjo y Surr ound mode or Stereo mode This receiv er has five Surround modes. Select a suitable mode according to the type of music you are listening to, the media used, and your personal preference. The selected surround mode is automatically stored along with the selected source.
21 T o enjo y Surr ound mode or Stereo mode 1. Press an Input Selector b utton to select the desired sound source. 2. Press the SURR OUND MODE button r epeatedly until the desired Surr ound mode name appears. The display changes in the order shown on left each time you press the button.

23 Karaoke function All you need to enjoy karaoke with the TX-SE550 is a dynamic microphone. The karaok e function can also cancel the vocals on your fa vorite songs. The amount of cancellation depends on the source material. V ocal cancellation is not possible with mono sources, and also cannot be used when the MUL TI-CH INPUT but- ton is pressed.

26 Recor ding a sour ce Make all connections between the tape deck and the recei ver as shown in the “ Audio equipment connections” diagram (page 6). 1. Insert a blank tape into the tape deck. 2. Press the input selector b utton for the sour ce you want to record.
27 Recor ding a source V ideo disc programs can be recorded onto a VCR (VIDEO-2). 1. Load a disc in the video disc player or D VD player , and insert a blank tape in the VCR (VIDEO-2). 2. Press the VIDEO-1 or DVD b utton. 3. Start playing the video disc player and r ecording on the VCR.
28 Pr ogramming remote contr oller codes Universal Pr ogrammable Remote Controller RC-386M If you are using another manufacturer’ s product that has a remote controller, you can memorize that component’ s codes into the RC-386M.
29 Pr ogramming remote controller codes 1. Press the LEARN b utton. 2. Place the head of your old r emote controller 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) from the head of the RC-386M, laying both units on a table or a flat surface. 3. On the RC-386M, press the b utton in the PROGRAMMA- BLE AREA into which you want to store the code.
