19 Menu operat ions 2 [ e SHOOT & SE LECT1] / [ f SHOOT & SE LECT2] • Press and hold the shutter button to shoot sequential pictures. After shooting pictures, select the ones you want to erase, put the R to them, and press 2 Y / S button to erase them.
20 Menu operat ions 2 You can take a sequence of pictures at one time while holding down the shutter button. The camera will take pictures in seque nce until you release the shutter button. • In high speed sequential shooting , [IMAGE QUALITY] will be limited to below [2048 × 1536].
21 Menu operat ions 2 Recording starts about 0.5 seconds after the shutter button is released and la sts about 4 seconds. When recording , aim the camera microphone at t he source of the sound you want to record. Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS Master software from the provided CD-RO M.
22 Menu operat ions 2 g “SETUP menus” (P. 31) • The factory default settings are displayed in gray ( ). • Set [BGM] to [ON] or [OFF]. • Select the transition effect between pictures from [TYPE]. • Only the first frame of each movie is displayed.
23 Menu operat ions 2 Select [MOVIE PLAY] from the top menu, and press o to play back the movie. Another option is to select a picture with t he movie icon ( n ), and press o to play back the movie. Operations dur ing movie playback •P r e s s o to pause the playback.
24 Menu operat ions 2 This function lets you play back t he pictures in a calendar format by the date of recording. g “Zoom button Zooming while s hooting/close-up pl ayback” (P. 11) This function lets you view the pictures in 9 frames at th e same time.

26 Menu operat ions 2 This function allows you to save printing data (the number of prints and the date and time information) with the picture s stored on the card. g “Print settings (DPOF)” (P. 43) Protected pictures cannot be er ased with [ERASE]/ [SEL.

30 Menu operat ions 2 Even if a picture is removed from an alb um, the picture remains in the card. You can change the jacket (first fr ame in the album) to be displayed on the album selection screen. Other album menus g “ 0 Protecting pictures” (P.
31 Menu operat ions 2 All existing data, including protected pi ctures, are erased when the internal memory or card is formatted. Make sur e that you save or transfer important data to a computer before formatting the card. • Make sure there is no card inserted in the camera when formatting the interna l memory.
32 Menu operat ions 2 You can select a language for on-screen display. Avail able languages vary depending on the area where you pur chased this camera. You can add other languages to your camera with the provided OLYMPUS Master software. You can select the volume level and the picture displayed w hen the camera is turned on.
33 Menu operat ions 2 File names and their folder names for recor ded pictures are automatically generated by the camera. File names and folder names respectively include file numbers (0001 to 9999) and folder names (100 to 999), and are named as follows.
34 Menu operat ions 2 The pixel mapping feature allows the camera to check and adjust the CCD and image processing functions . It is not necessary t o operate this function frequently. Approximately once a year is recommended. Wait at least one minute after taking or viewing pictur es to al low the pixel mapping function to perfor m properly.
35 Menu operat ions 2 • The date format is the same as that se t with [ X ]. • The first two digits of the ye ar are fixed. • The time is displayed in the 24-hour fo rmat. • For a more accurate setting, press o when the time signal hits 00 seconds.
36 Menu operat ions 2 Operating, shuttin g off and checking the alarm • Operating th e alarm: Turn off the came ra. The alarm only operates when the camera is off. • Shutting off the alarm: While the alarm is sounding, press any bu tton to shut off the alarm and turn off the camera.
37 Printing pict ures 3 3 Printing picture s Printing pictures You can print out the pictures you have taken. If you print the pictures at home, you can either connect the camera directly to the printer or you can connect the camera to a computer and download the pictures to the computer first.
38 Printing p ictures 3 By connecting the camera to a PictBridge- compatible printer, you can pr int out pictures directly. Select the pictures you want to pr int and the number of pr ints on the camera’s monitor. To find out if your printer is compatible with PictBridge, refer to the printer’s instruction manual.
39 Printing pict ures 3 3 Press < button. • Printing starts. • When printing is finished, the pictur e selection screen is displayed. To p rint another picture, press 43 to select a picture, and press < button. • When you are finished , disconnect the USB cable from the camera with the picture selection screen displayed.

42 Printing p ictures 3 To cancel printing 5 In the [PRINT MODE SELECT] scre en, press m butto n. • A message is displayed. 6 Disconnect th e USB cable fro m the camera.
43 Printing pict ures 3 Print reservation allows you to save printing data ( the number of prints and the date and time informatio n) with the pictures stored on the card. Pictures with prin t reservations can be printed using the following pr ocedures.
44 Printing p ictures 3 Follow the operatio n guide to make a print reservation for a selected picture. 1 Press the m button in the play back mode and disp lay the top menu.

46 Connecti ng the camera to a comput er 4 4 Conne cting the cam era to a comp uter Connecting the camera to a computer Using the USB cable provided w ith your camera, you can connect the camera and computer and download (transfer) the images to your computer using the OLYMPUS Master software, a lso provided with the camera.
47 Connecting the came ra to a computer 4 Before installing the OLYMPUS Master software, please confir m that your computer is compatible with the following system req uirements. For newer operating systems, please refer to the Olympus web sit e as shown on the back cover of this manual.
48 Connecti ng the camera to a comput er 4 Window s 1 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. • The OLYMPUS Master setup screen is displayed. • If the screen is not displayed, do uble-click the “My Computer” icon and click the C D- ROM icon. 2 Click “OLYMPUS Master”.
49 Connecting the came ra to a computer 4 • A screen asking whether or not yo u want to install Adobe Re ader is displayed. Adobe Reader is required to r ead the OLYMPUS Master instruction manual. If this screen is not displayed, Adobe R eader is already installed on your computer .
50 Connecti ng the camera to a comput er 4 1 Make sure th e camera is turned off. • The monitor is off. • The lens cover is closed. 2 Connect the multi-connector on the camera to the USB port on the computer using the provided USB cable. • Refer t o your co mputer’s instr uction manual to locate the position of the USB por t.

When the monitor setting is 1,024 × 768 and you are using Internet Explorer to view a picture with an image size of 2,048 × 1,536 at 100% , the entire picture cannot be viewed without scrolling.

70 Getting to know your camera better 5 Aperture The adjustabl e lens opening w hich controls the a mount of light t hat enters the camera . The larger the aper ture, the s horter the depth of field and the fuzzier the bac kground. T he smaller the aperture , the greater the depth of field and the sharper the background.
71 Getting to know your ca mera bette r 5 ISO A method for indica ting film spee d by the Intern ational Organizatio n for Standar dization (ISO) (ex.gISO10 0h). Higher IS O values indicate greater sens itivity to light, so ima ges can be expos ed even in low -light conditions.
