System Requirements The following hardware and software ar e required to install and run this so ft - ware. Computer: I B M PC/AT compatible machine w i t h an i486SX or better CPU running Windows 9 5, 98 or M e (Pentium or better CPU recommended). Memory: 8 MB minimum (3 2 M B or more recommended, depending o n t he application t o be printed).
Installing t h e Software Ins tall t h e Windows 95/98/Me p r i nt e r driver software o n the provided floppy dis k i n yo ur P C . Th i s description uses a PC running Windows 98 as an example. Select [Search fo r th e be st dr iv er f or your device] an d click [Next].
Insert th e floppy disk i nto the PC's flo ppy drive. Select [Floppy disk drive] and click [Next]. Fo l lo w the on-screen instructions. 4 5 7.
Manual installation C li ck the [Start] but to n of Windows, point [Setup] and click [Printer]. Double-click t he [AddPrinter] icon. The [Add Printer W izard] dialog bo x appears. Selec t [Local printer] as the printer connection destination. Olympus does no t guarantee that this printer will operate c orre ctly on a network.
Insert the floppy disk i nt o the PC 's floppy drive an d sele ct [U se disk]. Se t t h e floppy di sk drive as the [Copy source of distributed file.] Th e drive name of t h e floppy disk drive varies d epending on the setup o f each P C. Check your PC' s i nstruction manual if y o u a r e not sure.
Uninstallation When the printer driver software i s n o longer necessary, uninstall it as described below. Click t he [Start] button of W indows, point [Setup] and click [Printer]. The [Printer] window appears. Click t he [OLYMPUS P-200] icon. In t he [File] menu, click [Delete].
Printing Yo u can print images created using commercially available image processing or retouching applications using th is printer driver software. Run th e application and open the images you want to print. Set the image siz e to 12 80 x 960 pixels or less f o r printing, image processing or retouching.
Click [OK] to close the [Printer Setup] dialog box. In t h e [File] menu, click [Print]. Th e [Print] di al og b ox appears. Set t h e number of prints [Copies]. The print copies can be set up to 25. The dialog bo x shown above is an example using th e Olympus CAMEDIA Master 2.
To cancel printing W h e n t h e print m onitor i s displayed: Click [Cancel printing]. When data i s le ft i n the Windows printer spooler: Click the [Start] button. Point [Setup] and click [Printer]. Double-click [ OLYMPUS P- 200 ] t o ope n the [OLYMPUS P-200] w in - dow.
Tips for printing To get the best printing results, b e s ure to read the instruction manual of th e application you are using. Information on ho w to change t he resolution a nd ima ge size i s especially important. I n addition, read th e following tip.
Split Print Y ou can split a sheet o f print paper into multiple planes and print th e sa me image on ea ch of them. In the [File] menu of t h e application, click [Print]. The [Print] dialog box appears. Click [Properties]. [OLYMPUS P-200-LPT1: Properties] appears.
Images ca n b e printed in one o f the fo llowin g split methods. 4-split pr in t 9-split print 16-split print To obtain correct split prints (with an application tha t prints im age s ac- cording to th e resolution of the printer): Se t the resolution t o 320 dpi and image size t o 1 28 0 x 960 pixels.
Adjusting th e Image Quality Yo u ca n adjust the brightness, d epth , contrast an d sharpness of an imag e fo r p rin ting . [Brightness], [Depth] and [C ontrast] each can be adjusted i n 2 1 steps between - 10 a nd +10. [Sharpness] c an be adjusted in 1 1 steps between -5 and +5.
Troubleshooting Guide To solve problems yo u ma y experience with the printer driver, check the trou- bleshooting guide before calling fo r service. If th e problem persists, contact you dealer f or information w hat to d o next. Please als o refer to t he Instruction manual provided with the printer.
Symptom PC operation is unstable. Installation f r o m floppy disk i s impossible. Cause The P C's memory ma y not have enough free memory. There m ay not be enough f r e e space on the hard disk. Treatment If more th an one applications is open, close all unnecessary applications before printing.

Introduction Thank you f or purchasing this OLYMPUS digital color printer. Read this manual and warranty carefully. Keep them handy f or future reference and when requesting service. Mak e sure th at the d ate o f purchase and dealer's name are included on yo ur warranty.
Safety precautions It i s dangerous to tamper wit h the printer because this could cause fire o r electric shock, possibly resulting in death or serious injury. Before u s e, re ad the safety precautions carefully an d fol low them for proper handling.
WARNING Do n ot damage th e power cord. A damaged power cord ma y result in fire o r electric shock. T o prevent t he cord fr om being damaged, DO NOT: Jerk the c o rd to pul l it out. Bend t h e cord excessively. Hea t t he cord. Place heavy objects on t he cord.
WARNING Do not use the printer in the following places. Unstable or i ncl ined surfaces. Places exposed t o du s t and ot he r particles (such as outdoors, particularly o n a beach). Places subject to rain and water drops, o r enclosed places where c o ndensation could occur such a s inside a plastic bag.
WARNING Observe the following wh en using t he optional B -200NH rechargeable battery. Never disassemble, destroy or short-circuit the battery, or throw it i n a fire. Doing s o m ay cause an explosion. To recharge the battery, mount it on the printer.
NOTE Do not block th e vent. Doing so m a y cause th e printer to he a t u p , p o ssibly resulting in fire or electric shock. Do not blo ck the vent. Do not pu t the printer i n the following places. - Place with po o r ventilation - O n a so f t surface li k e a rug o r be d Do no t p ut the printer on an unstable surface such as a shaky table.
Care an d storage Be wa re of moisture condensation. Moisture condensatio n means t ha t water vapor i n the ai r becomes liquid and sticks to th e pr in te r surface. Th i s phenomenon is caused b y the following. Rapidly heating the room in which the printer is placed C o o l a ir (from an ai r conditioner, etc.
Getting Started Unpacking t h e printer Make su r e that th e fo llo wi ng accessories are supplied with your printer. If you are missing an y of these accessories, contact yo ur dealer immediately.

Setting u p the printer Connecting t he power supply To supply power f rom t he provided A C adapter 1 . Plug th e printer power co rd int o the AC adapter. 2. Plug the AC adapter power co rd in to a wall outlet, th e n plug t h e o t h er e n d o f th e printer power cord into the printer's D C power input connector.
Notes • Recharging time varies depending o n th e remaining battery power and environmental conditions. • E v e n whe n th e battery i s installed, i t is no t recharged while the printer i s se t t o ON . Recha r g i n g only takes place when t h e printer i s OFF.
4. Remaining battery power indication Th e remaining b attery power i s indicated fo r 1 2 seconds a f t e r t h e printer i s turned ON and during printing. The remaining battery power indicator segments light according t o the following. lights (turns off automatically): Th e b atte ry i s fully charged.
Loading t he i nk ribbon cartridge Note • Wh en using the in k ribbon cartridge compartment f o r the first time, remove the head protection sheet fr o m t he inside. Always use the ink ribbon cartridge and print paper supplied together in the same carton.
I f the cartridge compartment l id does n ot close: Remo ve the ink ribbon cartridge, and then re-insert it. Cautions • Th e cartridge compartment may become very hot during o r after operation. Do not insert your finger o r hand inside t h e cartridge compartment.
Storage pr ecaution • D o n ot store an in k ribbon cartridge i n a place subject t o h i g h temperature or humidity, excessive dus t or direct sunlight. Handling th e in k ribb on cartridge To replace an ink ribbon cartridge O p e n the cartridge compartment lid, take out the used in k ribbon cartridge and replace it wi th a new on e.
Loading print paper Cautions • Be careful not to stain or damage the paper feed guide. • Do not touch th e print surface ( the glossy surface w ith nothing printed on it) when handling print paper. • Do not leave print paper in a place subject t o excessive dust.
Note • If y ou need to transport the paper feed cassette with print paper loaded in it , p ut the paper feed cassette in a ba g or other container. Storage precautions • Do no t store print paper i n a place subject t o high temperature or humidity, excessive dust or direct sunlight.
Basic P rinting Printing images recorded on the ca r d (SmartMedia or CompactFlash) T h e following procedure describes how to select a single image f rom the card an d print it o n a single (full- sc.
Note • Wh en you us e a c ard that contains images captured by a different ca me ra , t he frame numbers displayed by y ou r camera may not correspond wit h the ones shown b y the printer. To make s u r e t ha t t h e printer prints the correct image, use the index print function (see p a g e 33).
• SmartMedia cards alw ays have priority, ev en w hen a CompactFlash card has already been inserted first. If you w a n t to u se data from th e CompactFlash card, press the S m artMedia/ Compact Flash button to select i t. • Keep th e c ard cover open while SmartMedia is inserted in th e printer.
• I f CompactFlash cannot be inserted easily, do not force it in , but r em ov e it , check the Com pactFlash insertion ori enta tio n a nd retry insertion from t he beginning. • The image recorded in CompactFlash should b e printed as it was recorded using an Olympus digital camera.
Printing Press th e ( + ) or (-) button t o s e l e c t th e frame nu mb er of th e image to be printed. To change the frame number display to file name display: T h e frame number display on the control panel can b e switched t o fi l e name display.
Note • If y our digital camera does n ot assign file names using 7 digits, use th e frame number display function (with the FRAME indicator lit). The corresponding frame numbers can be checked by performing index printing (see page 3 3 ).
Cautions • Never att empt to insert or remove the SmartMedia or CompactFlash c a rd while the ACCESS/CHARGE indicator on the operation panel is blinking. Otherwise, th e c ar d' s formatting may be destroyed, making it unusable. • Do not insert or remove the SmartMedia or CompactFlash car d during printing.
• Do no t disconnect the AC adapter during printing, even if t he optional rechargeable battery is loaded in the printer. Al so do not connect th e A C adapter during battery-powered printing operation.
Oth er Printing Functions Making split prints Yo u can select t he same image f o r 2-split, 4-split, 9-split o r 16-split planes and print them o n single sheet of print paper. Press th e NUMBER button to select t h e number o f print copies display Select t h e desired number of print copies w i th t h e (+) or (- ) button. Any number between 1 and 25 can be selected (see ste p 2 on pa g e 28).
Select t h e l as t frame number (FRAME) b y pressing the NUMBER button, then select th e desired frame number whe re yo u want to start printing with the (+) o r (- ) button. ( 3 0 images including and located before the s e le ct e d frame number or file name will be printed in reverse order.
Printing a ll recorded images in a SmartMedia or CompactFlash c ar d Note • In all-frame printing, all recorded images o n t he card will be printed in reverse order starting from t h e selected frame. Ma ke sur e that t he l as t frame number i s displayed as t he s ta rt in g frame number when printing all im ages.
P re s s the NUMBER button to select th e f r a m e number display function (FRAME). Select t h e first frame number to be printed with the (+ ) o r ( - ) button. All-frame printing starts from t he selected frame number, and images a re printed in reverse order.
Printing DPOF-reserved images Y ou ca n print al l th e images reserved f o r DPO F print ing b y t he digital camera. Images can be printed as one f u l l size image per sheet. However, not e th at certain digital cameras do not have the D P O F facility.
Notes • DPOF allows printing of images designated by Olympus digital cameras provided with th e D P OF reservation facility. • When DP OF reservation is used, only sharpness can b e adjusted w ith this printer. • If tr imm ing is specified in the D P O F reservation, printing may take l onger.
Before you begin: 2 Select t he image f or printing. Wh en the standard indicator o r o ne o f the split print indicators i s selected above, press t he NUMBER button t o select the frame number selection function. Th en s e l e ct t he frame number of the desired image with the (+) or (- ) button.
Adjusting the sharpness Note • With s om e types of images, the contour may be excessively enhanced. Press th e SHARPNESS button to select t he degree of contour correction in prints. SHARPNESS button Every time you press t he SHARPNESS button, the indicator changes in th e order o f NORMAL, SO F T and SHARP.
F or Your Information Troubleshooting Use the f ollow ing measures t o solve problems you may experience wi th yo ur printer, and a l s o read the Installa- tion Guide provided w it h the optional P-200 connec- tion k it. If the problem persists, contact y ou dealer.
For Y o u r Information The control panel displays 0 0 0 w he n the card is inserted. There is no recognizable image data o n the card. Check y o u r c am era's manual t o confirm that it s recording format i s compatible wit h the printer (DCF/ EXIF).
The ERROR, PAPER/RIBBON and PRINTING indicators blink. Paper is jammed. Remove jammed paper. ( Se e below.) T h e ACCESS/CHARGE indicator blinks. Th e SmartMedia o r CompactFlash card is being accessed. Wait a fe w minutes without removing the card. F or Your Information The ERROR indicator blinks.
I f y ou open the cartridge compartment li d by mistake during printing: 1 . Close t h e cartridge compartment l id to e ject print paper automatically. 2 . I f the print paper i s not ejected automatically, remove the paper feed cassette an d remove the print paper projecting fr om the paper feed ca ssette co m partment by hand.
About the i n k ribbon cartridge an d print paper Fo r Yo u r Information Always use the i nk ribbon cartridge a nd print paper specified by Olympus. They are available by ordering the following Olympus model number (a s o f October 2000). Print Pack, Standard S e t : T h e standard s e t contains an i nk ribbon cartridge and sheets of print paper.
