Safety SWITCH ON SA FELY Do not switch th e device on when wi reless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger. ROAD SAFETY COMES FIRST Obey all local laws. The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending, so be careful when handling, insertin g, or removing the card. 1 Press and slide the back cover towards th e bottom of the phone, and remove it (1 ). 2 Remove the battery (2).
Insert a memory card Use only compatible microSD cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Nokia uses approved industry standards fo r memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with this device . Incompatible cards may dama ge the card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card.
Charge the batt ery Your battery has been partially charged at the factory. If the dev ice indicates a low charge, do the following: 1 Connect the charger to a wall outlet. 2 Connect the charger to the device. 3 When the device indicates a full charge, disco nnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet.
GSM antenna Your device may have internal and external antennas. Avoid touching the ante nna area unnecessarily while the an tenna is transmit ting or receiving. Contact with antennas affects the communication quality an d may cause a higher power level during operation and may reduce the battery life.
Basic use Keypad lock To prevent accidental keypresses , select Menu , and press * within 3 .5 seconds to lock the keypad. To unlock the keypad, select Unlock , and press * with in 1.5 seconds. If the security keyguard is activated, ente r th e security code when requested.

The device is registered to a 3G (UMTS) network. Bluetooth is activated. All incoming calls are dive rted to another number. Calls are limited to a closed user group. Features that are unavailable when the flight profile is acti vated cannot be selected in menus. The total number of characters left and th e number of messages needed for sending are displayed. To send messages, the correct message cen tre number must be stored in your device.
Mail Set up e-mail Select Menu > Messa ging > E-mail . If you do not already hav e an e-mail account, you can create a N okia account, which includes the Ovi Mail service. 1 Select Get Ov i Mail . 2 Follow the instructions. Read, write, and send an e-mail Select Menu > Messa ging > E-mail .
You can use an existi ng account for an IM commu nity that is su pported by your device. If you are not r egistered to an IM service, you can create an account for a supported IM service, using your computer or your devi ce. The menus may v ary, depending on t he IM service.
Message settings Select Menu > Messa ging and Message settings . Select from the following: General se ttings — Set the font size for messages, and activate gra phical smileys. Text messages — Set up message centers for te xt messages and activate delivery reports.
View the to-do list Select Menu > Organize r > To-do list . The to-do list is displayed and sorted by prior ity. To a dd, delete, or send a note, to mark the note as done, or to sort the t o-do list by deadline, select Op tions . Web or Internet You can access vari ous intern et services with your phone browser.
Zoom in or out Scroll up or down. Capture an image Select Capture . Set the prev iew mode and time Select Options > Settings > Photo preview time . Activate the self-ti mer Select Options > Self-timer . Video mode Use the video function Select Menu > Media > Video camera .

It is recommended that you back up your personal data before updating your device software. Warning: If you install a softwa re update, you cannot use the device, even to make emerge ncy calls, until the installati on is completed and the device is restarted.
3 To download and install a software update, select Downl. phone sw . Follo w the instructions. 4 If the installation was cancelled after the download, select Install sw update . The software update may take sev eral minutes. If there are problems w ith the installation, contact your service provider.

Proper charging. Unplug the charger from the el ectrical plug an d the device when not in use. Do not lea ve a fully charged ba tte ry connected to a charger , since overcharging may shorten its l ife time. If left unused, a full y charged battery will lose its char ge over time.
