Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 2 - System Setup 2 SY STEM SETUP This guide will get you up and running quickly , demonstrating how to install your own drive int o the Newer T echnology miniStack enclosure. Y our computer is a static-sensitive device .
➀ Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 2 - System Setup 2.1 Hard Drive Assembly & Installation Remove the Newer T echnology miniStack from the box. Y ou will notice that there is a clear protective plastic sheet attached t o the top of the enclosure.
➂ ➃ T urn the miniStack over and place the bott om on the work surface. Lift the top cover o of the miniS tack, exposing the internal chassis. Untape the plastic bag with assembly screws from the inner chassis . Make sure that the hard drive y ou wish to install (sold separately) is handy and remove the scr ews from the bag.
➅ ➄ Place your drive int o the chassis of the miniStack. T here are 2 rubber coated mounting tabs with screwholes on the side closest t o you in this photograph, and a tab with a plastic detent on it that will lock the driv e into the chassis on the center of the drive on the opposite side .
➆ ➇ T urn the enclosure over on to it’ s top again on a sof t work surface. Use the remaining 2 Phillips screw s from the plastic bag and insert them into the center of the driv e enclosure above the Newer T echnology label, securing the hard drive into the chassis .
Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 3 - F ormatting 3 FORMA TTING 3.1 Forma tting your New er T echnology miniStack on a Macin- tosh with OS X (F or a new drive , or to reforma t an old drive) If you are not formatting a brand new har d drive, you will ha ve to manually Open Disk Utility, which is f ound in your /Applications/Utilities folder .
Once you ’ve selected the Newer T echnology device, you will notice the above change in the Disk Utility application. Click on the “P artition” tab in this picture. Y ou then need to choose how many partitions you wish your Newer T echnology miniStack to have.

Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 3 - F ormatting ④ Your drive will appear similar to how Disk 1 does below. Notice that the space on the lower right reads as “Unallocated.” Right click in this space and choose “New Partition.” ⑤ The “New Parti - tion Wizar d” will launch.
Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 3 - F ormatting ⑧ If you like, you can specify the drive letter designation f or your new drive . Other wise, one will automatically be assigned. Click “Next. ” ⑨ Before y ou can use the drive, it must be formatted .
Newer T echnology miniStack Chapter 3 - F ormatting ⑪ Once you hav e nished with the formatting wizard , you will see that your new drive (represent ed as “Disk E” in this case) will display a message of “F ormatting. ” This should only take a couple of min- utes if you chose the quick format option.
