8 A TTENTION! Please make all connections to your L70 receiver with the unit unplugged. (It is also advisable to power -down or unplug all associated components while making or breaking any signal or AC power connections.
9 8 SCART/RGB VIDEO OUT (P AL only) : Connect the L70 SCAR T/RGB VIDEO OUT to the SCART/RGB video input of a compatible video monitor/TV . Be sure to observe the corr ect orientation of the SCART/RGB plug. The routing of the SCART/RGB input is fixed: SCART/RGB plug will only display the internal DVD video signals.
10 GETTING ST ARTED Before you make the first connection to your L70, you should have the arrangement of your listening r oom/home theatre components and furniture mapped out, at least initially . Unfortunately , a discussion of the vital questions of loudspeaker placement and listening/viewing positions is beyond our scope here.
11 DISPLA YING THE L70 RECEIVER’S OSD While in DVD mode, press the L70’ s “SETUP” key momentarily for the DVD’ s OSD, and for 3 seconds for the receiver’ s OSD. With the use of the navigation keys either on the L70’ s front panel or the HTR L70 r emote, you may select various menus.
12 INPUT SELECTOR •F r om the OSD’ s <MAIN MENU> screen, select the <INPUT SELECTOR> menu item using the HTR L70 r emotes’ and “Enter” keys. • Using the keys select the video input (DVD, SA T , VCR, and VIDEO 4) you wish to configure.
13 Every surround-sound system r equires “bass-management” to direct low-fr equency content from any or all channels to the speakers best able to repr oduce it. For this function to operate correctly , it is important that you correctly identify your speakers’ capabilities.
14 SETTING LEVEL TRIM Press the HTR L70 r emote’ s “TEST” key , activating the L70’ s channel-balancing test signal and displaying the <TEST TONE> menu on the OSD. Y ou will hear a “surf” sound that cycles through your speakers, beginning with the Front-Left.
15 Y ou may operate the L70 DVD Surround Sound Receiver from its fr ont panel or via the HTR L70 remote control. Since the r emote will be the primary controller for most cases, we will focus on remote-contr olled operations. Be sure also to r ead the section, “Front Panel” above.
16 When you want to play back DVD videodiscs, turn on the TV and select the L70’ s DVD player . When you want to enjoy the sound of DVD videodiscs, VCDs, or audio CDs from the L70, pr ess the “SURROUND MODE” button on the L70 and select the desired surr ound mode of the L70’ s DVD player .
17 OSD NA VIGA TION Perform the L70’ s DVD OSD navigation by using the L70’ s front “DISPLA Y”, navigation , and “ENTER” keys; before performing OSD navigation connect the L70 to a TV/monitor .
18 SYSTEM OSD From this OSD, one can change the overall settings of the L70’ s DVD player . OSD LANGUAGE Select between English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Netherlands L70’ s DVD OSD using the navigation keys, then press “ENTER” to select.
19 The L70’ s internal AM/FM tuner offers very high quality sound from radio broadcasts. Note that r eception and sound quality will always be dependent to a degree on the type of antenna(s) used, as well as proximity to the br oadcast origin, geography , and weather conditions.
20 CHOOSING THE FM MUTE / MODE The front-panel FM MUTE/Mode key is a dual-purpose contr ol. First, it “toggles” the L70 between stereo mute and unmuted mono reception (assuming that a multiplex-ster eo station of sufficient strength is tuned).
21 The L70 receiver of fers nine distinct SURROUND MODEs, tailored for differ ent types of recordings or program material. The table below lists which modes ar e available to what input signals.
22 DOLBY DIGIT AL / DTS Digital recor dings in Dolby Digital or DTS formats are repr oduced via the channels employed in the original r ecording (up to the maximum channels present in the curr ent <SPEAKER CONFIGURA TION> setup). NOTE • The DVD player must be sending a Dolby Digital or DTS bit-stream from its digital output.
23 ADJUSTING SURROUND MODES Use the HTR L70 remote’ s “Surr . Mode” key , or the front panel SURROUND MODE key , to select the SURROUND MODE you wish to display and listen to; this will display on the L70’ s VFL Display . One can also select variations using the HTR L70 cursor keys on the <SURROUND:> line of the OSD.

26 LEARNING CODES FROM OTHER REMOTES Begin by positioning the HTR L70 “nose-to-nose” with the source r emote so the two devices’ infrared windows are about 2 inches apart.
27 COPY A COMMAND FROM ANOTHER KEY Y ou may copy a command from any HTR L70 key to any other . T o copy a key function, after entering the Learning Mode, and pressing the desired key to be copied to, simply pr ess the device key from which you wish to copy , having first pressed its Device Selector key if it resides on another “page.
28 EXECUTING MACROS To execute a macro, press and r elease “MACRO”; its key illumination lights for 5 seconds. While it remains lit, press an HTR L70 key to which a macr o has previously been stored.
29 LOADING CODE-LIBRARIES The HTR L70 can store a dif ferent library of default NAD codes for each of its Device Selector “pages.” If the original default library does not control your NAD CD player , tape deck, DVD player , or other component, follow the procedur e below to change the code-library .
30 CHECKING CODE-LIBRAR Y NUMBER Y ou can check the current code-library on any Device Selector key as follows. Enter Library Mode by simultaneously pressing-and-holding for 3 seconds both the desir ed component’ s Device Selector key and the “PROGRAM” key , until the Lear n LED turns green.
