8 .1 < Scanning > 8 Scanning Scanning with your ma chine let s yo u turn pi ctures and t ext into dig ita l file s that can be stored on you r computer . Then y ou can fax or email the files , upload th em to your web site, or use them to creat e projec ts that you can print.
8 .2 < Scanning > Scanning u sing a net work connectio n If you hav e connec ted your m achine to a network and s et up network parame ters correctly , you can scan and send images over the networ k.
8 .3 < Scanning > 4 Click Add . 5 Select the index number , from 1 to 2 0. 6 Enter a nam e in Alias for the Setup for the correspon ding Server List entry . This name wi ll be displaye d on your ma chine. 7 Select IP Add ress or Host Name . 8 Enter the s erver addre s s in do tted decim al notation or as a host name .
8 .4 < Scanning > Setting network sca n timeout If the Network Scan program on you r comput er does not se nd a re fresh request an d does not sca n a job w ithin a s pecified timeout period, your machine cancels the s can job. Y ou c an ch ange this timeout sett ing as needed.
8 .5 < Scanning > Scanning to an SMB serv er Y ou can scan an image and then send it to an SMB server . Y ou ne ed to set up p arameters for ac cess to SMB se rvers from SyncThru™ We b Service . S ee page 8. 3. Before sca nning, you can set the scan op tions for y our scan job.

9 .4 < Fax i ng> 7 Press Stop/ Clear to return to S tandb y mode. Receiving autom atically in Fax mode Y our machi ne is preset to Fa x mode at the fa ctory . When you re ceive a fax, the m achine answe rs the ca ll on a spec ified num ber of rings and automatic ally rec eives th e fax.
9 .5 < Fax i ng> 5 Call your fax number from a nother teleph one. It is not ne cessary to place th e call from a fax m achine. 6 When you r machine begin s to ring, do not answer the ca ll. The mac hin e requ ire s sev era l r ings to l ear n the pat te rn.
9 .6 < Fax i ng> Printing rece ived faxes on both sides of p aper By using the Dupl ex button on your mac hine, you can set the ma chine to print recei ved faxes on b oth sides of p aper . 1 Press Duplex . 2 Press the Scroll but tons until the bind ing option you w ant a ppears.

9 .8 < Fax i ng> 8 Enter the jo b name you want and press OK . The origi nal is scanned into mem ory before transmission . The display shows memo ry ca pacity and t he number of pages being stored in memo ry . 9 If an or iginal is placed on the scanner g lass, select Ye s to add another p age.

10 .2 < Fax se t up> Changing the default document settings The fax op tions, includi ng resolutio n and dark ness, c an be set to the most frequently used modes. W hen yo u send a fax, the de fault setting s are used if th ey are not chang ed by using the corresponding button and menu.

14 .2 < Troubleshoot ing> Roller misfee d 1 Open the scanner lid. 2 Seize th e misfed p aper , and remo ve the paper from t he feed area b y carefully pulling it to t he right using bo th hands. 3 Close the scann er lid. The n load the remov ed pages ba ck into the ADF .
14 .3 < Troubleshoot ing> In the optional tray 2 1 Pull the o ptional tray 2 op en. 2 Remove th e jamme d pape r from the machine. If the p aper does not m ove whe n you pul l, or if yo u do not see the paper in this area, stop and g o to step 3.
14 .4 < Troubleshoot ing> 2 Remove th e jammed pape r by gently pull ing it straight o ut. 3 Replace th e toner cartrid ge and cl ose the front cover . Printing automati cally resumes. 14 .13 < Troubleshoot ing> Printing quality problems If the insid e of the machine is dirty or p aper has been loade d improperly , you may noti ce a reduction i n print quali ty .
14 .14 < Troubleshoot ing> Back ground scatter Backgro und scatt er results from bits of toner randoml y distributed on the printed p age. • The pap er may be too da mp. T ry printing wi th a dif ferent batch of paper . Do not open pac k ages of paper until n ecessary so that t he pape r does not abso rb too much moistu re.
14 .15 < Troubleshoot ing> Hori zo ntal str ip es If hor izont ally a ligned blac k streaks or sm ears appear: • The tone r cartridge may be i nstalled imprope rly . Remove th e cartridge and reinsert it. • The toner cartridge m ay be defective.
