2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Ma nual is an important part of yo ur new snow thrower. It w ill help you assemb le, prepare and maintain the unit fo r best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES WARNING: Engine Exhaust, some of it s constituents , and cer tain vehicle components contain or emit chemicals known to the State of Calif or nia to cause cancer , birth defects or other reproductiv e harm .
4 Operation 1. Do not put hands or feet near rotating p arts, in the auger/impeller housing or chute assembly. Contact with the rotating parts can amputate hand s and feet. 2. The au ger/impeller control is a safety device . Never bypass its operation.
5 YOUR RESPONSIBILITY Restrict the use of this power machine to persons who read, understand and follow the warnings and in structions in this manual and on the machine. Do not modify engine To avoid serious injury or de ath, do not modify engine in any way.
6 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER NOTE: References to rig ht or left side of the snow thrower are de termined from behind th e unit in the operating p osition (stand ing directly be hind the snow thrower, facing th e handle panel). NOTE: This Operator’s Manu al covers several models.
7 Attaching the Chute Assembly and Directional Control 1. Apply a lubricant (i.e. 3-in-1 oil) to the rim of the chute base (and th e underside of the chute assembly) and position the chute assembly ov er the base. 2. Close the flange keepe rs to secure the chute assembly to the chut e base.

9 Auger Control The auger cont rol is located on the left handle. Squeeze the co ntrol grip against the handle to en gage the augers and start sno w throwing action. Release to stop. Drive Contro l The drive control is located on the right hand le. Squeeze the co ntrol grip against the handle to en gage the wheel drive.
10 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Before Starting WARNING: Read, understand, and follow all instructions and wa rnings on the machine and in this manual befor e operating. Gas & Oil Fill-Up Service the eng ine with gasoline and oil a s instructed in the Tecumseh Engines ma nual packed separately with your snow thrower.
11 IMPORT ANT: Do not releas e the ha ndle and allow it to snap back. Keep a firm hold on the star ter handle and allow it to slowly recoil. • As the engine warms, slowly rotate the choke control to t he OFF posit ion. If the engine falte rs, quickly rotate the ch oke control back to the FULL position and then slowly into the OFF po sition again.
12 • Repeat Auger Con trol Test to verify proper adjustment has been achieved. Figure 1 Drive / Auger Lock (on models so equipped) The drive/aug er lock allows the user to operate the snow thrower with one hand, leaving the left hand free to operate the ch ute directional control.
13 SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Never at tempt to mak e any adjustments wh ile the engine is running, except where sp ecified in operator’s ma nual. Shift Rod Adjustment If the full range of speed s (forward and reverse) cannot be achieved, refer to t he figures marked 1,2, an d 3 to the right and adju st the shift rod as follows: 1.
14 Drive Contro l When the drive control is released a nd in the disengaged “u p” position, the cable should have very little slack. It sh ould NOT be tight. Check the adjustment of th e drive control as follows: 1. With the drive control released , push the snow thrower gently forward .
15 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING AND SERVICING YOUR SNOW THROWER WARNING: Before lubricating, repairing, or inspecting, disengag e all controls and stop engine. Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Always wear safety glasses durin g operation or while perf orming any adjustme nts or repairs.
16 Auger Belt Replacement To remove a nd replace your snow t hrower’s auger b elt, proceed as follows: 1. Remove the plastic belt cove r on the front of the engine by removing the two self-t apping screws. • Drain the ga soline from the snow thro wer, or place a piece of plastic under the gas cap.

18 Friction Wheel Removal If the snow throwe r fails to drive with the driv e control engaged, and pe rforming the drive control cable adjustment on page 14 f ails to correct the problem, th e friction wheel may need to be r eplaced. Follow the instructions below.
19 Augers • The augers a re secured to the spiral shaft with two shear pins and cotter pins. If the auger should st rike a foreign object or ice ja m, the snow thro wer is designed so that the pins may sh ear. Refer to F igure 9. • If the augers will no t turn, check to see if the pins have sheare d.
