Assembly Handle Obse rve the l ower rear area of the s now thrower to be sure both ca bles are ali gned with ro ller guid es befor e pivoting the handl e upward. Se e Fig. 3- 1 . NOTE: M ake cert ain the upp er ends of each c able are seated p roperl y in its bra cket.
Chute Directional Control Remove the p lastic cap (if p resent), flat w asher and hair pin clip fro m the end of the chu te direc tional control . See Fig. 3- 4. Inser t the en d of the chute direc tiona l control into the lower br acket and secu re with the f lat washer an d hairpin clip just r emoved.
Adjustments Skid Shoes The sn ow thrower skid s hoes are adj usted upward at th e fac tory for ship ping pur poses. Adjus t them downwar d, if desire d, prior to oper ating the snow throwe r .
Auger C ontrol W ARN ING ! Prior to ope rating your snow throwe r , caref ully read an d follow all ins truc tions be low . Per form all adjus tments to ver if y your snow thrower is ope rating safe ly and pro perly.
Snow thrower contro ls and features a re describ ed bel ow and illust rated in Fig. 4 - 1 . NOTE: Fo r detaile d informati on on all eng ine controls, re fer to the sep arate T ecumseh Engin e Oper ator’s Manual.
Throttle Control The thr ottle contro l is locate d on the rear of the engin e. It regulates the s peed o f the engine an d will shut o ff th e engine wh en moved into the STOP pos ition. Primer Pressing the p rimer for ces fuel dire ctly into the engi ne’ s car buretor to aid in col d-weath er sta rting .
Chute Direc tional C ontrol The chute di rect ional control is l ocated on l ef t side of the snow thrower. T o chan ge the direc tion in w hich snow is thrown, tu rn chute dire ctiona l control as foll ows: Crank clo ckwis e to discharge to the le ft .
Starting The Engine Atta ch spark plu g wire to spark p lug. Make cer tain the meta l loop on th e end of the spa rk plug wire (ins ide the rubb er boot) is f astened s ecurely over th e metal tip o n the spark p lug. Make cer tain bot h the auger contro l and drive control a re in the dise ngaged (releas ed) posit ion.
T o Engage Dri v e With the th rottle contr ol in the Fast ( rab bit) positio n, move shif t lever into on e of the five for ward (F) p ositions or t wo revers e (R ) pos itions. Se lec t a spee d approp riate for the snow conditi ons and a pace you ’ re comfor tab le with.

Sha ve Plat e and Skid Shoes The shave plate an d skid sho es on the b ottom of th e snow thrower are su bjec t to wear . They shou ld be checke d perio dically and rep laced when n ecessar y .
Auger Sh af t At least on ce a season, rem ove the shear pins fr om the auger shaf t. Spr ay lubricant insi de the shaf t and aro und the spacer s and the f lange b earings fo und at either e nd of the shaf t.
Drive Control When th e drive control is re leased an d in the disenga ged “up” positi on, the cab le should h a ve ver y lit tle slack . It shoul d NOT be tight.
Belt Replacement Auger Belt T o remove and repl ace your snow thrower ’ s auger b elt, pr oceed as foll ows: T o prevent spillag e, place a piece of p lastic wr ap under the gas cap an d tighten secur ely . Remove the p lastic be lt cover on the front o f the engine by removin g the two s elf-tap ping screws .
Remove the b elt fro m around the aug er pulley, and slip the bel t bet ween the sup por t bracket and th e auger pul ley . See Fig . 7 -5. Reassem ble auger b elt by foll owing instr uctio ns in reverse orde r .
Slip the dr ive belt of f the p ulley and be twee n fric tion whee l and fri ction w heel disc . See Fig . 7 - 7 . Remove and re place bel t in the reverse o rder .
Caref ully remove the h ex nut which s ecures the he x shaf t to the snow thrower f rame and li ghtly tap the sh aft ’s end to dislod ge the ball b earing fr om the right sid e of the fram e. See Fig. 7-9 . NOTE: B e caref ul not to damage the thr eads on the shaf t .
