Chapter 2. Gett ing Start ed Before using the printer , you mu st 4 charge the battery handl e. (See "Chargin g the Batte ry Hand le" lat er in th is chapt er .) 4 attach a fully ch arged battery handl e. (See "Remo ving and Attaching the Battery Handl e" later in thi s chapter .

R emoving and A ttaching th e Batt er y Handle c Before rem oving or a ttaching the b attery handle , turn the printer off. T o change the battery ha ndle: 1. T urn the printer off . 2. Hold t he lat ch down while yo u slide t he batt ery hand le off towards the ba ck of the prin ter .
Charging the Bat ter y Handl e When using or sto ring th e wal l char ger: F DO NOT wrap the cord around the char ger . F DO NOT pull or put unu sual s tre ss on the cord . w Before usi ng the charge r , inspec t the cord for b are wires. DO NOT use a charg er with bare w ires .

3. Pull back the su pply lock tab. 4. Squee ze or pu ll apart t he supp ly holder at its ba se to adjust it to th e size of your sup ply roll. It clicks at 1.
5. Press the su pply lock down to lock the suppl y holder in plac e. 6. Remove the se al from the suppl y roll, p eel and discard the first four inches o f labels fro m the backi ng pape r . 7. Place the supply rol l in the supply ho lder so tha t it feeds labels from the bottom as sh own.
9. F eed the bac ki ng pa per un der the appl ica tor ro ller a nd under the labe l deflec tor . 10. Push the l abel defle ctor up unti l it snaps i nto place. 11. P artiall y close the su pply cover to the first position (u ntil it clicks once ). n Do Not clos e the cover comp letely at this step or a l abel jam may occur .
12. Hold th e supply e dge bet ween th e feed and pin ch rollers. Press the trigge r to feed the backing pap er through the rollers. 13. Press 1 if you are loadin g the same supply type . Press e to start your appl ication. O r , press 2 to load a differe nt supp ly type or size.

Using Numeric Mo de Numeric m ode is the default m ode of the pri nter . This mode allow s you to use t he foll owing ke ys on the keyp ad: F Numeric ke ys F Symbol keys F A - f ke ys In Nu meric mode, the cursor i s a solid u nderline.
Using Lowercase Alpha Mode This mo de allo ws you to en ter lowerca se lette rs and use t he up and down arro ws. In Lowe rcase Alph a mode, the cu rsor is a blin king rect angle. n Lowerc ase Alpha m ode a llow s you to enter and ex it the Europe an c haracte r set.

R esuming an App lication (R esume App.) Use Resum e App. to return to where yo u exited yo ur app lication . T o resume an applica tion: F rom the MAIN MENU , press e to sele ct Resume A pp. n See yo ur Sy stem Admi nis trator for detail s ab out you r applica tion.
T o p rint la bels in O n-Demand mode: 1. Press the trigge r . 2. Apply the la bel. The next label pri nts automaticall y . Repeat these steps to conti nue to pri nt and apply more l abels. n T o remove excess backing pap er , gently tear it ag ainst the ex it chute.

Enabling/Disabling the Backli ght ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– The dis play bac kligh t can be enab led fo r diml y li t areas . Thi s feat ure is di sabled whe n you recei ve the pr inter . If there is no activity a t the keypad or scanner fo r a period of time, the backlig ht shuts off .

The Prin t Speed te st allows yo u to verify tha t the suppl y is moving throu gh the printe r at the correct spee d for pri nting scannab le bar cod es. The Gray Scale test ch ecks the uniformity o f the printing. T o run the T est P attern: 1. Press e to select Printi ng from the H DW T EST MENU.

Checking th e Serial P ort This test is typicall y perform ed by Service o r your MIS department. T o check the serial port, you perform a "loop-b ack" test, which che cks the port for recei ving and sending da ta from a ho st. n Contact your Service re presentati ve for the loop-back pl ug and procedure s.

Checking th e Print head The Printh ead test checks for F dot resistan ce F temper ature . The do t resistance test che cks each dot on th e printhead and takes ap prox imate ly four m inutes . The tempe rature test che cks the working te mperature ran ge of the pri nthead.

Scanning C hecklist F Make sure the sca nning win dow is clean. F Aim th e scanner a t a slight angle at the bar co de. F Make sure the di stanc e betwee n the b ar code and scanner is four to eight in ches. Mo ve the scanner i n and out w hile the beam is o n.
Keypad T es t The Keypad test displ ays the ROW # and COLUMN # for each key you pre ss on the keypad . There are 6 rows and 6 columns (0-5). For example, b is (0,0 ), and E is (0,5). T o te st any key: 1. F rom the HDW TE ST ME NU, press > until you see: Display K eypad 2.
