If the antenna touches a power line, contact with the antenna, mast, cable or guy wires can caused e lectrocution and death! Call the power company to remove the antenna.
Once you understand a few simple terms we use in this manual and familiarize yourself with your scanner's features, you can put the scanner to work for you. You simply determine the communications you want to receive, then set the scanner to scan those frequencies.
BAND - selects a preprogrammed search band. W X - scans through the preprogrammed w eather chann els. PR I - sets and turns on and off priority for 10 priority c hannels. Number Keys - each key has a single-digit label and a range of numbers. U se the digi ts on the keys to enter the n umbers for a chan nel or a frequency .
Up or Down Arrow - indicates the search o r scan direction. W X - appears when you scan the preprogrammed weather channels. Key SYMBOL - appears when you lock the k eypad. AUTO - appears while the scanner automatically stores frequencies i nto channels.

UNDERSTANDING BANDS/BANKS/MEMORIES Search Bands Your scanner can tune over 32,000 different frequencies. Many of these frequencies are grouped within permanent memo ry locations called search bands (1-17).
For example, if you wanted to search for transmissions between pilots and the control tower at an air show, you could search only the search bands where you are most likely to hear the tra nsmissions (4 and 7). Notes: The scanner can search for transmissions on frequencies that are not stored in any of the search bands.
Make sure the scanner's antenna is connected before you turn it on. 1. Turn SQUELCH MIN/MAX fully counterclockwise. 2. Turn VOLUME OFF/MAX clockwise until it clicks and you hear a hissing sound. 3. Turn SQUELCH MIN/MAX clockwise, then leave it set to a point just after the hissing sound stops.
3. Use the number keys to enter the frequency you want to store into that channel (including the decimal point). 4. Press ENTER to store the frequency. Notes: If you entered an invalid frequency in Step 3, the scanner beeps and displays the channel number and Error.
Notes: To turn off bank 10, press 0. To turn a bank back on, press its number key again. The bar under the bank number appears. If you select a bank that does not contain any empty channe ls, A-FU LL appears instead of AC-XXCH. To enter new frequencies into this bank, you must delete one or more frequencies stored in it.

You can restore the preprogrammed limit search ranges you replaced b y resetting the scanner. 1. Press PGM. PGM appears. 2. Using the number keys, select the number for the search bank where you want to store a new limit search range. Note: To select bank 10, press 1 then 0.
(in steps of 5, 12.5, or 25 kHz, depending on the band), press and release Up or Down Arrow. W hen the scanner finds an active frequency, it stops searching. To store that frequency in the lowest available channel, simply press ENTER. The scanner stores the frequency, and Up or Down Arrow, the channel number and CH, and the frequency flash twice.

If you set a search range that crosses over into a range of frequencies that the scanner cannot tune, the scanner searches only up to the limit of tunable frequencies and returns to the starting frequency.
5. Press ENTER. The scanner stores the frequency in the selected channel. 6. To move another monitor memory frequency to the next channel, press PGM and repeat Steps 3-5. Moving Frequencies from Monitor Memories to a Bank Your scanner can move all the frequencies you have stored in mo nitor memories into a bank you specify.

4. Press L/OUT. The frequency you want to remove the lockout from disappears. If there is another locked-out frequency, it appears on the display. If there are no more locked-out frequencies, the scanner continues searching. Reviewing Locked-Out Channels/Frequencies To review the channels you lock out, press MANUAL, then repeatedly press L/O RVW.
If you want to store the frequency anyway, press ENTER a gain. 5. Repeat Steps 2-4 to store more frequencies into the priority channels (up to 10 channels.) To turn on the priority feature, press PRI when the scanner is in the scan or manual mode. Pri -On- and PRI appear on the display.

To return to the default settings, hold down CLEAR, then press AM/FM. USING THE DISPLAY BACKLIGHT You can turn on the display's backlight for easy viewing dimly-lit areas.
Handle the scanner gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the scanner to work improperly. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old and weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits.
