-1- ABOUT YOUR PHONE The Mitel 5212 and 5224 IP Phones are full-feature, dual port, dual mode telephones that provide voice communication over an IP network.

-4- Elements of Your Phone Feature Function 1 Display Provides a two–line, 20–character li quid crysta l display (LCD) viewing area that assists you in selecting and using phone features, accessing your voice mail, and identifyin g callers.
-5- Feature Function 5 Fixed Function Keys Give you access to the follow ing phone functions: z (SUPERKEY) : provides access to menus for your phone's additional features. Note : When navi g atin g throu g h Superkey menu options, press (CANCEL) or (SUPERKEY) to back up one menu level.
-6- IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HEADSET USERS: Mitel Networks Headsets with Feature Co ntrol Switch must be installed in the dedicated headset jack on the back of the phone. Installation will disable your handset microphone. Disconnecting the headset at the jack or at the quick–disconnect plug restores hands et operation.
-7- Selecting Menu Options Because the 5224 IP Phone offers soft keys, feature availability and menu options for the 5212 and 5224 IP Phones may differ. To select menu items on the display: 1. On a 5224 IP Phone, press the softkeys. 2. On a 5212 IP Phone, pr ess *, 0 and # on the ke ypad.
-8- For Users on Resilient 3300 ICP Systems If durin g a call, you hear two beeps repeated every 20 second s it means that your phone is switching to a second ary 3300 ICP system. The call continues but some of the keys and features on your phone function differently.
-9- Protect your hearing Your phone has a control for ad j ustin g the volume of the handset receiver or headset. Because continuous expos ure to loud sounds can contr ibute to hearing loss, keep the volu me at a moderate level.
-10- CUSTOMIZING YOUR 5212/5224 IP PHONE Ringer Control To adjust the Ringer Volume while the set is ringing: z Press ( UP ) or ( DOWN ). To adjust the Ringer Pitch while the set is idle: 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). . 2. Press # or the No sof t key until "Ringer Adjust?" appears.
-11- Speaker Volume Control To adjust the Speaker Volume when making an on–hook call or when listening to background music: z Press ( UP ) or ( DOWN ). Display Contrast Control To adjust the Display Contrast while your set is idle: z Press ( UP ) or ( DOWN ).
-12- Feature Keys You can use ( SUPERKEY ) on your phone or the Desktop Tool to program the personal keys as feature keys. The Desktop Tool is a browser– based interface that makes pr ogramming quick and easy. Fo r more information on using the Desk top To ol, please contact your System Administrator.
-13- Language Change To change the display language: 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press # or the No sof t key until "Lan guage?" appears. 3. Press * or the Yes sof tkey. 4. Press * or the Change soft key. 5. Press # or the No sof t key until the desired language appears.
-14- Emergency Calls Warning for emergenc y number dialing: Consult your local authorities for Emergency Numbers and 911 or equivalent service availability in your area.
-15- To make an Emer g ency Call usin g the Line Interface Module line, when the IP connection has failed: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the Line Interface Module key that you have programmed. The set indicates IP FAIL: ANALOG CALL . 3. Dial your Local Emergency Number.
-16- Phonebook (5224 IP Phone only) To use Phonebook: : z Press (SUPERKEY) . Press the Yes softkey when "Phonebook?" appears. z Enter the name of the desi red party, as follows: For each letter in the name, press the appropriate key on the keypad until the letter is shown in the display.
-17- Speed Call Keys You may use Speed Call Keys to make a call or to send a string of digits during a call (press a Speed Call Key during a call to send a multi–digit password, for instance). To dial a stored Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset.
-18- Speed Call – Personal To dial a stored person al Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial *58 . 3. Enter an index number between 00 and 09 . To store a personal Speed Call number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial *67 . 3. Enter an index number between 00 and 09 .
-19- Handsfree Operation To use Handsfree to make a call: 1. If you want to use a Non–Prime Line, press a Line Appearance key. Note: Your administrator must pro g ram Line Appearances to your phone. 2. Dial the number. 3. Begin speaking when the called pa rty answers.
-20- Auto–Answer To enable or disable Auto–Answer: z Press the Auto–Answer feature key. To enable or disable Auto-Ans wer on a 5224 IP Phone only: 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press the No softkey until "Auto Answer?" appears. 3. Do one of the following: To enable Auto-Answer, press the TurnOn softkey.
-21- CALL HANDLING Hold To place a call on Hold: z Press ( HOLD ). To retrieve a call from Hold: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the flashing line key. To retrieve a call from Hold at anot her phone, do one of the followin g: z Press the flashing li ne key.
-22- Transfer To Transfer an active call: 1. Press ( TRANS/CONF ). 2. Dial the number of the third party. 3. Do one of the following: To complete the Tr ansfer, hang up. To announce the Tr ansfer , wait for an answer , consult, and han g up . To cancel the Transfer, press ( CANCEL ).
-23- Add Held (5224 IP Phone only) To move a call on hold to another line appearance: 1. Press an available line key. 2. Press the AddHeld softkey. 3. Press the flashing line key. To add a call on Hold to an exis ting conversation or conference: 1. Press the AddHeld softkey.
-24- Call Forward Call Forward lets you redirect incoming calls to an alternate number.You can select one of the followi ng forwarding options: z Always redirects all in co mi ng calls regardless of the state of your telephone. z B–Int redirects internal calls wh en your telephone is busy.
-25- To turn Call Forward on and off (once it has been programmed): 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press # or the No sof t key until "Call Fo rwarding?" appears. 3. Press * or the Yes sof tkey . 4. Press # or the Next softkey until the type of Call Forward appears.
-26- Call Forward – Remote (I'm Here) To forward calls from a remote st ation to your current location: 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press # or the No sof t key until "Call Fo rwarding?" appears. 3. Press * or the Yes sof tkey. 4. Press # or the Next softkey until "I Am Here" appears.
-27- Call Forward – End Chaining To ensure that calls do not get fo rwarded again by the destination number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial 64 . 3. Hang up. To again allow calls to be forwarded by the destination number: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial **73 .
-28- Messaging – Advisory Advisory Messaging enables you to sele ct a notice that appears on your phone display to inform people visiti ng your desk of your whereabouts. Select from a variety of advisory me ssages, including "On vacation", "In a meeting", or "Out to Lunch".
-29- Messaging – Callback To leave a Callback Message when yo u hear busy or ringback tone: z Press ( MESSAGE ) or, on a 5224 IP Phone only, press the Callback softkey. To respond to a message waiting co ndition on your 5212 IP Phone: 1. Press ( MESSAGE ).
-30- On a 5224 IP Phone only, you can set, chan g e, or clear a password (up to 7 digits, not including 0): 1. Press ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press the No softkey until "Set Pa ssword?" appears. 3. Press the Yes softkey. 4. Do one of the following: To enter a new password, enter your password.
-31- USING ADVANCED FEATURES Account Codes To use Forced Account Codes: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Dial the Account Code digits. 3. Press # . To enter an Account Code during a call on a 5212 IP Phone: 1. Press ( TRANS/CONF ). 2. Dial **3 . 3. Dial the Account Code digits.
-32- Call Pickup To answer a call that is ringing at another phone in your Pickup Group: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the Pickup feature key or the Pi ckup softkey. To answer a call that is ringing at a station not in your Pickup Group: 1. Lift the handset.
-33- Override To use Override when you encounter busy or Do No t Disturb tone: z Press the Intrude feature key. Paging To use Paging: 1. Lift handset. 2. Press the Pager feature key. 3. Dial the Paging zone number (if required). 4. Make the announcement.
-34- Direct Paging – Handsfree Answerback Enabled When you receive a Direct Page, Ha ndsfree Answerback automatically establishes a Handsfree ca ll on your phone after a single burs t of tone. Your administrator enables or disables Handsfree Answerback on your phone.
-35- To answer a call using Handsfree Answerback: To end a Handsfree Answerback call: z Press either ( SPEAKER ) or ( CANCEL ). Note : When the Handsfree Direct Pa ge call ends, the MUTE key light returns to the state it was in before the call was established.
-36- Direct Paging – Handsfree Answerback Disabled Your administrator enables or disables Handsfree Answer back and you can also turn it on or off on your phone. To turn Hand sfree Answerback off, see "Direct Paging – Hand sfr ee Answerback Enabled" el sewhere in this guide.
-37- To end a Direct Page call, do one of the following: z Hang up the handset to end a handset c all. z Press ( SPEAKER ) to end a Handsfree call. z Press ( CANCEL ). Note: When the Handsfree Direct Page call ends, the (MUTE) key light returns to the state it was in before the call was established.
-38- Headset Operation To enable Headset Operation: z Press the Headset feature key. To answer a call (when Auto Answer is disabled): z Press the flashing li ne key. To hang up: z Press ( CANCEL ). To mute your headset microphone: z Press the (MUTE) key.
-39- Headset Operation (with Feature Control Switch) IMPORTANT NOTE: Mitel Networks Headsets wi th Feature Control Switch must be installed in the dedicated head set jack on the ba ck of the phone. Installation will disable your handset microphone. Disconnectin g the headset at the jack or at the qu ick–disconnect plug restores handset operation.
-40- Music To turn Music on and off on a 5212 IP Phone when the phone is idle: z Press the Music feature key. To turn Music on and off on a 5224 IP Phone when the phone is idle: 1. Press the ( SUPERKEY ). 2. Press the No softkey un til "Music?" appears.
-41- Group Paging / Meet Me Answer Group Paging allows you to page a group of telephones through their built–in speakers. You can belong to to as many as three paging groups with one group designated as your "prime" group.
-42- Record a Call This feature uses your voice mail system to record your telephone conversations. Note: You may be required by law to in form the other party that you are recording the conversation. For specific instructions, co nsult your system administrator.
-43- Hot Desking Hot Desking allows you to log into the telephone system from any phone designated as a Hot Desk phone. Simp ly log in at the phone using your assigned Hot Desk User Extension Number a.
-44- To log out of Hot Desking 5224 IP Ph one (the phone must be idle): 1. Press the HotDesk soft key. 2. Press the Logout softkey. 3. Press the Confirm softkey.
-45- Tag Call Tag Call allows you to signal that you are the victim of a threatening or malicious call. Using the tag, your system administrator or telephone company can identify the so urce of the call and prov ide this info rmation to appropriate personnel or authorities.
-46- Call History Call Histor y k eeps track of the n ames (if available) and telephone numbers of missed calls, answered incoming ex ternal calls, an d outgoing ex ternal calls. Once enabled on your phone by yo ur system administrator, it functions automatically.
-47- To return a call: 1. Display the call you want to return. 2. Do one of the following: If the call is internal, and th e caller name is known, press * or the Call sofkkey.
-48- Night Answer Office telephone sy stems are often plac ed into Night Answer after regular hours. Calls then ring alternate answer points—either designated extensions or a night bell. You can dial the Tr unk Answer From An y Station (TAFAS) code to answer calls ringing the ni ght bell.
-49- Release Release lets you disc onnec t from an attempted Call T ransf er or Conference Call without han g in g up the handset. Release is useful when you enc ounter a busy or unavailable party. To release from an attempted transfer or conference call: z Press the Release fe ature key or the Release softkey.
-50- LINE INTERFACE MODULE MODE Make A Call To make a call using the Li ne Interface Module line: 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the Line Interface Module key. ANALOG CALL appears on the display. 3.
