Guide to the appliance Miele dishwa shers ar e availa ble in two versions: 1. Integrated ( “i”) dish washe rs “i”- dishwash ers are d esigned for instal - lation under a continuous counter top. IMPORT ANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When loadin g items to be washed: – Locate pointe d items so that they are not likely to damage the door seal. – Load knives with the c utting edge down to reduce the risk of injuries . Do not wash plast ic items unl ess they are labeled “dishwa sher safe” or the e quivalent.
Caring fo r the envir onm ent Disposal of the packing ma terial. The cardboar d box and p acking ma- terial protects t he appliance durin g shipping. It has bee n deliberately de- signed to be biodegradable and recy- clable. Pleas e dispose of these ma- terials as y ou would any othe r re cyclabl e prod ucts.
Before using for the first time Before using for the firs t time please note the following points: Setting the water softener . The water so ftener must be set t o corr e- spond to the wat er hardness in your area. This can be o btained from your local water co mpany , or by using a test kit that can be purchased from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
Opening and closing the doo r T o open the door . Pre ss the rel ease catch in side the door grip. If the door is opened duri ng operation, all functions are automat ically inter- rupted. T o close the door . Push the b askets in. Lift the do or and push until it clicks into po sition.
W ater sof tener The water so ftener must be set t o corr e- spond to the wat er hardness in your area. This can be o btained from your local water co mpany , or by using a test kit that can be purchased from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
T o set the water sof tener for a hard- ness level of 1-35 gr/gal : Check that the water har dness se lec- tor in the was h cabinet is se t to set - ting 6.
Setting the water s oftener for a hard- ness level of 36 - 70 gr/gal require s the following two step procedure: 1. T ur n the di shwasher off. T u rn the program selecto r knob to the “STO P” positio n. Pre ss the “Delay sta rt” and “ST ART” buttons at the same time, whil e turn- ing the machine on.
Filling the salt reservoir . The salt reserv oir should be filled be- fore the first use a nd when the “Sa lt” in- dicator lamp li ghts up. Use water sof- tener reactivatio n salt (1 - 4 mm grain size), as oth er salts may conta in inso- luble add itives whic h can impair the functionin g of the softene r .
Salt indicator . When the salt reservo ir is empty , the “Salt” indicator lamp w ill light, notifying you that the reservoir shou ld be refilled with reactivation salt. After the r eservoi r has been fil led, the water soft ener is automatic ally reacti- vated the next time the dishwas her is run.
Adding rinse aid The use of Rins e Aid is recommended to prevent spottin g on dishes and glass- ware that nor mally o ccurs during the drying phase of automati c dishwashin g. Inadver tently f illing the rinse aid rese rvoir with deterg ent always leads t o damage to the r eservo ir .
Close the dish washer door half way and pour liquid rinse aid into the stor - age container un til it is visible on the sur face of t he screen. Do not add aid until the “Rinse aid” indicato r lamp comes on. Only use rinse aid s pecifically labeled for r esidentia l dishwashe rs.
Loading the dishwas her Load the dishes so t hat wate r can contact all s urfac es. Do not place dish es and cutler y in- side other pieces w here they may be concealed. Hollow items s uch as cups and glasses shou ld be invert ed and placed in th e upper basket .
Loading examples. Upper basket. For small, lightweight, or delicate it ems such as c ups, saucer s, glasses, des- sert bowls, etc. Bottom basket. For larger a nd heavier items such as plates, serv ing platters and sauc epans. Glasses s hould only be pla ced in the bottom baske t if the special glassw are inser t is used.
T o make unloading eas ier , cutler y can be gr ouped i n zones, one for kn ives, one for fork s, etc. Spoon heads s hould be placed so that water can run off them freely . Place the he ads of cutlery with r ound or oval handles in the holders. Thi s will secur e them dur ing the wash cyc le.
Adjustable cup racks. T o make room for tall glass es, raise the rack upwar ds. Lowe r it to double stack smaller ite ms. Coffee bar . Place coffee mugs on top of the bar s o that they sit at a sl ant. Thi s allows a ll water to run off the ba se of the mu g.
Adjusting the upper basket. (depending on model) The upper basket heigh t is adjustable. If tall it ems of dishw are are being washed, more room can be obtained by raising or lower ing the upper basket. Pull out the upper baske t and loosen the two locknuts on either side of the basket.
Items not suitable for dish washers – Cutlery w ith wooden handles . – W ooden cutting boards. – Glued items such as old k nives with handles that are glued together around the shank of the blade. – Hand made craft items. – Copper or tin items.
Adding deterg ent Use only powder deter gents fo rmu- lated for r esi dential dishwashers. Do not use gels or liquid deter- gents. Press the latch on the detergen t dis- penser . The cover will spring open. Fill the dispense r using the amount of detergen t recommended by the detergent manufacturer .
Choosing a program The wash program chosen shou ld de- pend on the t ype of dishes and t he de- gree of soiling. In most cases a N ORMAL program will give excellent results. The available programs and so me of their applicat ions are listed i n the Pro- gram Chart on the next two pa ges.

Operating the dishwash er . Tu r n i n g o n . Close the door . Open the wat er valve (if it is clos ed). Press the “ON/OFF”-button (14). When the program an d temperature se- lector kn ob (21) is in the “STOP” pos i- tion, a dot will light up in the display field (17).
Tu r n i n g o f f . At the end of a program: T u rn the program selecto r knob to the “STO P” positio n. If any applianc e will not be used for an extended period (e.g. while on v aca- tion), it is recommended that the water supply valve b e shut off.
Additional feat ures Delay s tart (18). The star ting time of a program can be delayed up to 9 hours and 30 minutes (in 30 minut e increments), in o rder to take advan tage of o ff peak utility ra tes that exist in some areas. T o set a D elay time: Select a program.
T op Solo (18). When this fea tur e is selected , the ma- jority of the w ater is directed to the top and middle spray ar ms of the dish- washer . Its use is rec ommended when all the dis hes or cutler y n eeding clean- ing can be loaded into the upper bas- ket and cutlery tray .
Unloading the dishw asher Dishes tend to break and chip easier when they ar e hot. All ow the dishes to cool u ntil they are comfort able enough to handle bef ore unloading them. If the door is ope ned at the comple- tion of the dr ying cycl e, the dishes will cool much faster .
Cleaning and care Cleaning the f ilters in the wash cabinet. The combination filter in the base of the wash cabinet should be regu- larly inspecte d and cleaned as necessar y . Any broken glass or dishware should be removed imme- diately upon discover y .
T u rn the co mbination filte r over and open the co arse fi lter cove r by pull- ing back on the lockin g tab. After cleaning, make sure that the coarse filte r cover is properly locked in place. Replace the co mbination filter so that it lie s flat in the bas e of the wash cabinet.
Cleaning the s pray arm s. On rare occasio ns par ticles of food may get st uck in the spray ar m jets. They can be easily clea ned as follow s: Remove the low er basket and the cutler y tray (i f so equippe d). The cut- lery t ray frame can be pushe d back in.
Cleaning the drain pump and non-re- turn valve. Use cauti on when clean ing the fi l- ters, non-retur n valve or drain pump, as glass or bone splinters may be cau ght in the bott om of the wash cabinet . If the water i n the dishwasher is not completely drained at t he end of a pro- gram, the drain pump or non -return valve may be bloc ked.
Cleaning the water i nlet filter . The wate r valve ho using on the inlet hose contains electrical compo- nents and sho uld not be immersed, or run through water . A filter is incorporate d in the i nlet hose that is attac hed to the dishwas her’ s main shutoff valve.
Installing an in-li ne water filter . If your water su pply contains a large number of ins oluble subs tances, we re- commend installing a filt er between the valve an d the inlet hose conn ection. These filte rs can be o btained from the Miele Par ts Depar tment.
Problem solving guide With the aid of the fo llowin g guide, minor problems can be easily co r- rec te d. If you are unable to correct the problem, please conta ct the Miele Ser - vice Depar tment.
The dishes are not clean. – The dishes are incorrectly loaded. – The correct amount of det ergent was not used - see “Program char t”. – Th e filters i n the wash cabine t are not clean, or the s pray ar m jets are blocked - see “Cleaning and car e”.

Please have the model nu mber of your applianc e availabl e. This info rmation can be fo und on the da ta plate on the upper edge of the door .
Accessories Bottle holder . (depending on model) A bottle holde r (for milk or baby bottles) is available fo r use in the lowe r basket. T o achieve th e proper cleaning results, the bottle holde r should only be placed in the posit ions marked with white.
Dishwasher i nstallati on The “i” mode l dishwasher is spe cially designed for installation under a con- tinuous count ertop. A panel can be custom made for inst al- latio n on the fr ont of the dis hwasher , as- suring a perfect ma tch with the kitc hen cabinetr y .
2. Install the dishwasher und er the countertop. It is preferable t o install the main water and electric supplies so that they can be accessed through an adjacen t cabinet, rather t han situating th em be- hind the ma chine. See t he “Plumbing” and “Electrical” section s for proper con- nection procedures before continuing.
Adjust th e rear leveling legs to the re- quired height. T o raise th e machine - turn clock wise. T o lower the mac hine - turn counter - clockwise. Several tur ns may be needed to set the correct height. Adjust the front leveling legs by push- ing on the foot with a slotted screw- driver .
3. Installing the control pa nel. The control panel and hardware is packaged se parately from the dish- washer . It s hould be inst alled using th e following procedure.
4. Aligning the control panel with the drawer fronts. The control panel can be aligned with the drawer fronts of the kitchen cabinets by adjusting the spacer bars. Using an 8 mm soc ket, turn the nut clockwise or co unterclockwise until the spacers reach the requir ed height.
Place the door pa nel on a flat sur- face, good side face down, t aking care not to sc ratch the s urf ace. Make cer tain that the bot tom of the panel is clos est to y ou. Using a pencil, lightly draw a center- line from top to bottom. Using the previous measurement, draw a horizonta l line “ X ” inches above the bo ttom of th e panel.
6. Adjusting the door springs. The door springs are adjusted correctly when a half opened door remains in that position w hen released. If the door drops down, the springs need to be tightened. If the door closes, the springs need to be loosened. The adjusting screw is locat ed in the upper front strip, on the left hand side of the dishw asher .
If the edge of the co unter top is too nar- row , or the machine is being inst alled under a cut out area, us e the securing bracket provided. Pull the dishwash er out from under the counter top a bout 4" (10 cm). Position the securi ng bracke t.
For openings 23 5/8" (60 cm) wide: Open the dishwas her door and remove the caps cov ering the mount- ing holes on the oute r edge of the wash chamber . Fasten th e dishwash er to the ad- jacent cabinets using the supplied screws and bushings. Ma ke sure a bushing is pl aced over the scr ew be- fore insert ing it into its mountin g hole.
For kitchens utilizing a non-continuous toekick The included toek ick will fit witho ut modific ation when : – The machine is s et to its ma ximum height (legs fully ext ended), and – the toekick is r ecesse d as far as possible (4 ").
T rimming the toeckick The rear of the toekick has two cuttin g lines. Scr ew the toek ick onto th e instal led brackets, w ith the cutting lines t o- wards the to p, and pull out e venly until it aligns wit h the toekick of the adjoini ng cabinets. The toekick cannot be pushed back in.
Electrical conne ction It is the responsibility and obliga tion of the custo mer to ensur e that the electrical a nd plumbing installati on is carried ou t by a qualifi ed install er in compliance with nat ional and local codes and ordinances.
Permanent Connection (Hard Wiring). For hard wiring, the power cord must be disconn ected fr om the terminal box located at t he lower le ft front of the dish- washer , behind the toekic k and servi ce panel. Pass the per manent pow er sup- ply cable through the strain relief and secur e it to the terminal bo x.
Plumbing It is the responsibility and obliga tion of the custo mer to ensur e that the electrical a nd plumbing installati on is carried ou t by a qualifi ed install er in compliance with nat ional and local codes and ordinances.
The water pressure must be between 4.5 and 145 psi (0. 3 and 10 bar). If the water pressure is too low the ma- chine may not take in enough water in the allo ted time and the “W ater Inta ke” in- dicator lamp will flash. If this occurs, the water intake time can be increased (see “Problem solving guide” ).
Drain system specifications: The machine comes equ ipped with: – A 5 ft. lon g (1.5 m) f lexible drain hose with a n inter nal diamete r of 7/8" (22 mm). – A built-in sw ivel connec tor which allows the drain hose t o be routed in any direction.
V enti ng the drainage system Only if the dishwasher drain hose is connected to a floor drai n or to a drain pipe that is bel ow the level of the lower baskets whee ls , the drain must be vented; othe rwise the water i n- side of the dishwa sher may sipho n out during the co urse of a wash pr ogram.
