GB - 7 EMISSION CONTROL SYS TEM This equipment and/or its engine may include exhaust and evaporat ive emissions control system components required to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agenc y (EP A) and/or California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.
GB - 8 DO NOT op erate at too fast a rate. Slow down before turning. S top engine before removing grass catcher o r unclogging chute. DO NOT mow on wet grass. Reduced traction could cause sliding. DO NOT mow with the deck access plate open. Always make sure the ac cess plate is down, or secured down, with the hardware.
GB - 9 Avoid Electric Shock. Objects cont acting both battery terminals at the same time may result in injury and unit damage. DO NOT reverse battery connections.

GB - 13 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See figure 5 for all controls and features locations. Safety Interlock Syste m Perform the f ollowing tests to ensure the safety interlock system is working properly . If the unit does not perform as stat ed contact your Ariens dealer for repairs.
GB - 14 Timer (TMR1): me asures the time spent on individual jobs. Press and hold the toggle button to reset the timer to zero. TMR1 will then start measuring engine run time until it is reset to zero again.
GB - 15 Adjusting Sea t Lift adjustment lever and slide seat forward or backward to the desired position. FILLING FUEL T ANK T o add f uel to the fuel tank: 1. C lean fuel caps and surrounding area to prevent dust, dirt , and debris from entering fuel tanks.
GB - 16 MOVING UNIT MANUALL Y Disengage (2) transmiss ion bypass levers to drive unit and engage (1) transmission bypass levers to push unit manually (figure 8). ST ARTING AND SHUTTING OFF ENGINE S tarting the Engine NOTE: Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, and place the steering l evers in neutral prior to s tarting the engine.
GB - 17 IMPORT ANT : Proper maintenance can prolong the life of unit. The following chart shows the re commended serv ice schedule. Refer to the maintena nce instructions in the Engine Manual for additional information.
GB - 18 TIPPING SEA T FORW ARD Move steering levers to neutral pos ition and rotate handles outward. T i p seat forward. Each Use Follow Engine Manual Mainten- ance Schedule Perform scheduled engine maintenance. Refer to E ngine Manual for de tailed instructions.
GB - 19 OPENING AND CLOSING HOOD T o open, pull up on the back o f the hood until hood hits the hood stops. Push down on back of hood to close (figure 10) . OPENING DECK ACC ESS PLA TE 1. I nstall adjustment pin in the fi rst adjustment hole (figure 11).
GB - 20 The Forwa rd Pitch Of The M ower Blades (Figure 14) • Should be 0 in (0 m m) to 1/4 in. (6.35 mm) pitc hed forward. NOTE: This measurem ent must be taken when the mower blades ends are facing forward. The Pitch O f The Mo we r Bla des From Side-T o-Side (Figure 15) • Should be within 1/ 4 in.
GB - 21 SERVICING BA TTE R Y NOTE: Unit comes equipped with a maintenance-free battery that requires no regular maintenance ex cept cleaning the terminals and periodic charging. Battery Removal and Inst allation Remove (Figure 18) 1. Tip seat forward (see TI PPING SEA T FOR WARD on page 18).
GB - 22 Inst all (Figure 19) 1. I nstall battery on the unit with battery hold-down bracket . 2. C onnect positive (+) cable f irst, then negative (–) cable. 3. A pply petroleum jelly or dielectric grease to battery cable ends and terminals. 4. Tip seat back (see TIPP ING S EA T FORW ARD on page 18).
GB - 23 ADJUSTING STEE RING LEVERS (Figure 20) IMPORT ANT : Adjust each steering lever equally . NOTE: When adjusting steering l evers for the first time it is recommended that you make adjustments in the fol lowing order . 1. Adjust S teerin g Lever Height 1.
GB - 24 • T urning adjustment bolt counter clockwise to inc rease steering leve r trav el. REPLACING PTO BEL T Remove (Figure 23) 1. Lo wer mower deck to the gr ound. 2. R emove belt covers from mower deck. 3. H ook a puller into idler hole a nd pull idler arm towards outsi de of unit until tension is removed from PTO belt.
GB - 25 REPLACING HYDROS T A TIC BEL T Remove (Figure 24) 1. R emove PTO belt (see R EPLACI NG PT O BEL T on page 24). 2. D isconnect electric clutch connect or . 3. R emove clutch stop . 4. D isconnect idler spring . 5. R emove hydrostatic belt from hydrostatic transmission pulleys, pulley , electric clutch, and idler .
GB - 26 4. C lean the filter mount ing surface and then lubricate rubber gasket on new oil filter with clean hydraulic oil. 5. Spin new oil filter onto filter housing until it makes contact. T ighten oil filter another 3/4 turn. 6. I nstall the filter guards removed in step 2.
GB - 27 Short T erm Storage IMPORT ANT : NEVER clean unit with high- pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors. Remove all dirt, greas e, leaves, etc. Store in a clean dry area . Inspect unit for s igns of wear or damage. Ensure all fasteners are properly t ightened.
GB - 28 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wil l not crank/st art. 1. Saf ety i nter lock system is not engaged or is faulty. 1. Check safety interlock system (se e Safety Interlo c k Syste m on page 13). 2. Fuel tanks empty. 2. Fil l fuel tanks (see FILLING FUEL TA N K on page 15).

GB - 30 Poor cut t ing qual ity . 1. Mower deck not level or mower pitch is incorrect. 1. Level and adjust pitch of mower deck (see The Distance From The Mower Blades T o The Ground on page 19). 2.
