GB - 6 T o reduce fire hazard and overheating, keep equipment free of grass, leaves, debris or excessive lubricants. Use extra care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects which may obscure vision. DO NOT mow at too fast a rate.
GB - 7 Accidental engine start up can cause death or serious injury . Except where specifically recommended, AL W A YS stop engine, remove key (electric start models), wait for moving parts to stop, allow parts to cool and disconnect spark plug wire before inspecting, servicing, adjusting or repairing unit.

GB - 9 3. Install the drive cover with three hex bolts and lock washers. Make sure the plate does not pinch any cables. 4. Connect the engine/blade control cable to the engine. Route the z-bend cable end i nto engine shutoff lever as shown below . Insert the cable connector into the cable mounting bracket on the engine.

GB - 1 1 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 7 for locations. Engine/Blade Control The engine/blade control must be held against the handlebar to start the engine and blade. NOTE: Pivot the eng ine/blade control into position. Do not pull back toward the operator while starting the engine or the wheel drive may engage.
GB - 12 CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Front Wheel Remove the lock pin from the left front wheel and then remove the wheels and axle from the unit. Inst all the wheels and axle at the desired cutting height, and then secure them in place with the l ock pin.
GB - 13 Rear Wheel T o change cutting height, move cutting height levers one notch at a t ime on each wheel to set desired height. NOTE: Each wheel on mower must be set at the same height fo r a level cut . Cutting Height Rang e The rear wheels have two cutting height ranges.
GB - 14 OPTIONAL CONTROLS Primer Bulb Push the primer bulb in to a dd fuel for easier engine start. Wheel Drive Control (s elf-propelled models) NOTE: Engine must be running for wheel drive to propel unit. T o drive forward: Slowly pull the wheel drive control toward you until you reach a comfortable ground speed.
GB - 15 To B a g 1. Shut off unit. 2. Install side discharge co ver (Figure 14). 3. Lift rear door . 4. Hook g rass bag frame on mounting flange. 5. Lower rear doo r . If necessary , lift rear of grass bag frame to lock in position. There should be no openings between bag and mounting surface after inst alling bag.
GB - 16 EMERG ENC Y STOPP ING T o stop the m ower in an emergency: 1. Release the engine/blade control. 2. Release the wheel drive control (self- propelled models). 3. Allow all moving parts to stop before leaving operator ’s position. ST ARTING AND SHUT OFF See Figure 7 for all Controls and Features.
GB - 17 Ariens Dealers will provide any service, parts or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak ef ficiency . Should engine require se rvice, contact an Ariens Dealer or an authorized engine manufacturer's service center .
GB - 18 3. Remove bolt, lock washer, flat washer and blade from s haft. T o inst all blade: 1. Replace blade, flat washer , lock washer and bolt on shaft. 2. T orque bolt to 37.5 - 50 lbf-ft (51-68 N•m) (bolt s hould fully compress lock washer). 3. Connect spark plug wire.
GB - 19 CHECK DRIVE BEL T (self- propelled m odels) Check drive belt and replace if w orn or damaged. See DRIVE BEL T REPLACEME NT (self-propelled models) on page 20. CHECK F ASTENERS Check all fasteners for proper t ightness. Pay special attention to blade hardware and all guards, shields and safety devices.
GB - 20 SER VICE PO SITION Put unit into se rvice position for eas y access to underneath the deck. 1. Place unit on a flat, l evel surface. 2. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug. 3. Remove fuel cap, place a piece of plastic bag over the opening and tighten cap securely .
GB - 21 T o inst all the drive be lt: IMPORT ANT : Be s ure the belt seats in idler and pulley grooves with the idler touching the back (flat) side of belt. 1. Install the new belt on the transmission input pulley and idlers, route it through the belt channel, and t hen install the belt on the engine pulley .
GB - 22 T o adj u st: 1. Move the wheel drive cable adjuster up or down the handlebar . See Fi gure 24. T o i ncrease traction and speed, m ove the cable adjuster down the handlebar . T o d ecrease traction and speed, m ove the cable adjuster up the handlebar .
