W arning and Safety instructions 10 Correct use Never use a nak ed flame beneath the cooker hood. T o avoid the danger of fire, do not flambé or grill over a nak ed flame. When switched on, the cooker hood could dr aw flames into the filter . F at deposits could ignite, presenting a fir e hazard.
W arning and Safety instructions 11 Do not use the co oker hood without the filters in place. This way you will avoid the risk of grease and dirt getting int o the appliance and hindering its smooth oper ation. Ther e is a risk of fir e if the cooker hood is not cleaned as described in these oper ating instructions.
W arning and Safety instructions 12 Metal par ts can have sharp edges which may cause injury . W ear gloves to prot ect your hands from being cut. Exhaust ducting must be of non- inflammable material. Suitable material is available fr om Miele specialist dealers or the Miele Spares Dept.
Caring for the envir onment 13 Disposal of the packing mat erial The packaging is designed to pr otect th e appliance from damage during transportation. The packaging mat erials used are select ed from materials which are envir onmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled.
Modes of operation 14 Depending on the model of the cooker hoo d, the following options are available: Extraction mode The air is drawn in and cleaned by the gr ease filt er and directed outside. Non-return flap The non-return flap is designed t o pr event the e xchange of r oom and outside air taking place.
Modes of operation 15 Con@ctivity 2.0 function Automatic contr ol The cooker hood has a communication fac ility which enables the automatic operation of the cook er hood depending on the operational stat e of the hob. T o make use of the communication facility the hob must be fitted with a Con@ctivity 2.

Guide to the appliance 17 a T elescopic ext ension piece b T ower c Canopy d Controls e Grease filt er f Spacer frame The spacer frame cr eates a shadow gap between the tower and the ceiling. The cooker hood can be installed with or without the spacer fr ame.
Operation (Aut omatic mode) 18 When Con@ctivity 2.0 is activated, the coo ker hood always works in automatic mode (see "Activating Con@ctivity 2.0"). T o operat e the cooker hood manually, see "Cooking without Con@ctivity 2.0". Cooking with Con@ctivity 2.
Operation (Aut omatic mode) 19 Cooking process If for e xample you switch on a cooking zone at the highest power level to heat a pan for frying and reduce the power level aft er approx. 60 to 90 seconds*, a cooking pr ocess is recognised (*60 seconds t o 5 minutes for a HiLight hob).
Operation (Aut omatic mode) 20 Leaving aut omatic mode t emporarily T o leave automatic mode tempor arily during cooking: Manu ally select a different power level, or Manu ally switch the cooker hood off, or Activate the run-on option on the cooker hood.
Operation (Manual mode) 21 Cooking without Con@ctivity 2.0 (Manual mode) The cooker hood can be oper ated manually if: – Con@ctivity 2.0 is not activated. – Y ou have tempor arily deactivated Co n@ctivity 2.0 (see "Leaving automatic mode tempor arily").
Operation (Manual mode) 22 Switching the hob lighting on / off The hob lighting can be switched on and off independently of the fan. T o do this, press . The symbol will light up when the hob lighting is switched on. P ower management The cooker hood features a power manag ement system to help save energy .
Operation (Aut omatic and Manual modes) 23 Operating hours count ers The number of hours the appliance has been in oper ation is st ored in memory . When the Grease filt er symbol or the Char coal filt er symbol lights up, the operating hours count ers are signalling that the filters need to be cleaned or changed.
Operation (Aut omatic and Manual modes) 24 Activating and altering the charcoal filt er operating hours count er The charcoal filt er is needed for r ecir culation mode.
Energy saving tips 25 This cooker hood oper ates very efficien tly and economically . The following will help you to save even more ener gy when using it: – Ensure that ther e is sufficient ventilation in the kitchen when coo king.
Cleaning and care 26 Casing General information The surfaces and controls ar e susce ptible to scr atches and abrasion. Please observe the following cleaning instructions. All e xt ernal surfaces and controls can be cleaned using hot water with a small amount of washing-up liquid applied with a well wrung-out soft sponge or cloth.
Cleaning and care 27 Important for the controls Do not leave soiling on the controls for any length of time. Otherwise they may suffer discol ouration or damage. Remove soiling straight away . Please observe the general not es on cleaning earlier in this section.
Cleaning and care 28 T o take out a grease filt er , release the locking clip on the filter , lower the filter appr ox. 45°, unhook it at the back and remove it. Cleaning the grease filter by hand Cle an the filter with a soft nylon brush in a mild solution of hot water and a small amount of washing-up liquid.
Cleaning and care 29 Replace the grease filt er , making sure that the locking clip is facing outwards. If the gr ease filt er is inadvertently replaced the wr ong way round, insert a small screwdriver blade int o the slit to disengage the clip.
Cleaning and care 30 When to change the charcoal filter Always r eplace the char coal filter when it no longer absorbs kitchen odours effectively . It should, however be replaced at least every 6 months. The charcoal filt er operating hours symbol will ligh t up to r emind you to change the charcoal filt er regularly .
Installation 31 Before installation Befor e installation, it is important to r ead the information given on the following pages as well as the "Warning and Safety instructions" at the beginning of this booklet.
Installation 32 Appliance dimensions a Installation area: cut-out for feeding thr ough the e xhaust ducting, the mains cable and with ...EXT models, the connection cable to the e xternal motor . In recir culation mode, only the mains cable is requir ed.
Installation 33 Safety distance between hob and cooker hood (S) When planning the installation height of your cooker hood, the minimum safety distance between the top of a cooker or hob and the bott om of the cooker hood is as follows, unless a great er distance is specified by the manufacturer of your cooking appliance.
Installation 34 Installation recommendations – When deciding on the safety distance between the hob and coo ker hood, please note that a distance of 650 mm above electric cookers/hobs may be prefer a ble to give more working space under the hood. – Account should also be taken of the height of the person who will be usin g the hood most often.
Installation 35 Pr otective foil The housing components have pr ot ective foil around them to pr otect them from tr ansport damage. Please remove this foil befor e fitting the housing components. It can be peeled off easily . Dr aw two int ersecting lines on the ceiling.
Installation 36 Use a kni fe to r elease the four spacers and the two covers from the spacer frame supplied. Use the space fr ame as a drilling template. Place it on the ceiling with the arrows pointing forwar ds. Using the notches, align the spacer frame on the intersecting lines and make pencil marks for the drill holes.
Installation 37 The spac er frame can be installed between the tower and the ceiling. This creat es a shadow which gives the illusion of a gap between the ceiling and the tower . This is useful if the ceiling is not level or is uneven. The cooker hood is aligned vertically with the spacers supplied.
Installation 38 Han g the installation frame on the four screws. The fr ont of the frame is marked with a "V". If using the spacer fr ame, place the two covers into the fixing holes. Alig n the installation frame with the intersecting lines and secur e it with the screws.
Installation 39 Ho lding the installation frame securely, r emove the two fixing screws and e xtend the installation frame t o its maximum length. Replace the screws.
Installation 40 Secur e the e xhaust socket to the hose using a hose clip. Secur e the hose t o the directional unit socket using a hose clip. Che ck that the hose is held securely .
Installation 41 Fi t the four telescopic piece clamps. When the screws ar e tightened, the clamps spread out and push the telescopic piece upwar ds. Tighten the screws only until the t op edge of the t elescopic piece is evenly aligned with the ceiling or the spacer frame.
Installation 42 A non-return flap is supplied with the coo ker hood or is already fitt ed in the exhaust socket (depending on cook er hood version). W ith extr action mode / ext ernal motor (AL, EXT) fit the non-return flap in the exhaust socket if your ducting system is not equipped with one.
Installation 43 F or ...EXT models only: Connect the cooker hood and the ext ernal motor using the connection cable. Connect the mains cable. See "Electrical connection". Place the exhaust ducting ont o the exhaust socket. Unsc rew both scr ews from the installation frame again.
Installation 44 Raise the canopy to the desir ed height and secure it wtih the scr ews. Ho ld the tower secur ely, bend back the retaining tabs and car efully lower the tower .
Installation 45 Remo ve the grease filt er from the cooker hood. Inser t the safety screw on the inside. W ith recir culation mode (UL) cooker hoods, insert the charcoal filter . C ar efully remove the prot ective foil from the gr ease filter .
Connection for air e xtraction 46 I f this cooker hood is used at the same time as a heating appliance that relies on o xygen from the same room ther e is a risk in certain circumstances of t oxic fumes building up. It is essential that the "Warning and Safety" instructio ns are observed.
Connection for air e xtraction 47 Condensate trap In addition to insulating the e xhaust ducting , we recommend that a suitable condensate tr ap is also installed to collect and evaporat e any condensate which may occur . Condensate tr aps for 125 mm or 150 mm ducting are available as optional accessories.
Connection for air e xtraction 48 Extraction mode with e xternal motor T o minimise noise from the mot or in the kitchen, the silencer should be position ed in front of the e xternal motor if possible, or , if the ducting is long, above the exhaust socket on the cooker hood .
Electrical connection 49 All electrical work should be undertaken by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with curr ent national and local safety regulations (BS 7671 in the UK). Installation, repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous, for which the manufacturer cannot be held liable.
Activating Con@ctivity 2.0 50 Installing the Con@ctivity 2.0 S tick In order t o use the Con@ctivity 2.0 fun ction, the hob must first be fitted with the Con@ctivity 2.0 Stick. Ple ase read the separ ate installation instructions supplied with the Con@ctivity 2.
Activating Con@ctivity 2.0 51 Activating the hob While the coo ker hood is searching for a signal, start activating the hob. More information about this can be found in the Operating instructions for the hob.
