MAXON SP-300 Series HAND HELD Page - 5- May 200 1 SP-300 The SP-300 Series of portable radios from Maxon, utilizes the latest technolo gy in its desi gn and manuf acturing. Both the VHF and UHF models are PLL (Phase Lock Loop Syn- thesizer) / m i cropr ocessor con t rolle d, and of fer 1 or 5 watts of power with 4 & 16 channel capability .

Low Ba tter y Indic ation Low Battery Indication will be changed so that it does not inhibit RX and will allow one transmission after low cell is indicated.

The main PCB contains the trans- mitter , recei ver and control circuits. The cont rol circuits contain the micro co ntroller and associated digital circuits.
MAXON SP-300 HAND HELD Page -10- May 2 001 Mute (squelch) Circuit The mute circuit which is contro lled by the output of I C409 (micro) Pin 77 (386EN) is con nected to Q34 via R122 which mutes t he LM386IC on t he RF cir cuits. Pin 77 also control s IC402B which mutes the audio path to th e RF circuits.

Squelch (mute) Circuit The squelch circuit switches of f t he power amplif ier when no audio si gnal is present. The squelch circuit consist s of a 16 kHz band pass filter and a noise detector circu it .

W ith the 25 pin “D” typ e connector installe d on the comput er , take the other en d of the program- ming cable and insert it in the receptacle located on the opposite s ide of the P TT on the radio.
MAXON SP-300 HAND HELD Page -22- May 2 001 15. Disconnect the test equipment. Should repairs be required, the following procedures should be ap plied: RX VCO 1. Set the unit t o the highest receive freq uency , 470 MHz(UHF), 174MHz(VHF) and adjust the VCO L303 to 10 volts .
