I NTRODUCTION The MS6720 is t he first laser bar code scan ner to truly bri d ge the g ap bet ween o mnid irec tiona l fi xed proj ect ion and hand -he ld sca nner s. It incorporates fixed projection perf ormance and paten ted 20-line scan pattern into th e co mfort able, ergonomic styling of our popular han d -helds.
S CANNER AND A C CESSORIES The following is a list of parts that may or may not be included in a MS6720 kit . • MS6720 Hand-He ld Lase r Sca nner • AC to DC Power Transformer – Regula ted 5VDC.
Q UICK S TART 1. Plug in the scanner. The red LED will come on, the green LED will flash once and the unit will beep si multaneously. 2. The scann er is shipped from the factory programmed w ith defau l t settings.
O PERATIONAL T EST If the s ca nner is to receive pow er from an e xternal power supply* , test the scanner before it is connected to the host system. Ke y board Wedge Scanners: 1. Plug one end of the coil cable into the key board connector on th e PC.
MS6720 I NST ALLATION : P OWER ED BY E XTE RNAL P OW ER S UPPLY 1. Tur n off the host s ystem. 2. If using a comm u nication cable, conn ect t he cable to the correct port on the host device an d t he MCA (Metrolog ic C o nnector A dapter). If the host devi ce i s an IBM compatible PC with a male 9- pi n serial port, connect the MCA to t he port.
MS6720 I NSTALLATION : P OWERED BY H OST D EVICE If the host system supplies +5 VDC po wer to the scanner, reposition the internal jumper within the MCA (Metrologic C onnector A dapter) before connecting the scanner to the host device.
S C ANNER I NSTALLATION : P OWERED BY H OST D EV ICE (C ONTINU ED ) 3. Plug the 4 position ground j umper into the power su ppl y conn ector. 4. T urn o ff the ho st s ystem 5. If using a commun ica tion cable, connect the cable to th e correct port on the h o st device and the MCA .
MS6720-47 K EYBOARD W EDGE I NSTALLATION TO THE PC 1. The “ Y ” coil cable is termin ated with a 5-pin DIN f e male connector on one end, an d a 6-pin mini DIN male on the other. A l so included w i th the MS6720 i s an adapt er cable with a 5-pi n male DIN o n one end and a 6-pin female mini DIN on the other to mate to a spec ific keyboard.
MS6720 O PTIONAL S TANDS Adjustable Stand [ MLPN 45-45967 ] Contains : A. Tilt/Sw ivel Cup Assembly [ MLP N 45-45967A ] B. Weighted Base Assembly [ MLP N 45-45967B ] 1B We ighted Base [ MLP N 36-36765] 2B.

S CANNER P ART S Green and Red LED When th e red led is on, thi s indicates that the laser is on. When the green LED flashes on, t he scanner has read a bar code successfull y. When the green light turn s off , co mmunic ation to the host is complete.
A UDIBLE I NDICATORS When the MS 6720 scanner is in operat ion, it provides au dible feedback. These sounds i ndicate the status of the s ca n and scanner. Fou r settings are available for the tone of the beep. T o change th e to ne, refer to the ScanSelect ® Programmi ng Guide [ MLP N 00-02186] or th e help f iles provided w ith MetroSet2.
F AILURE M ODES Flashing Red and One Razzberry T one This indicates the scanner has experien ced a laser subsystem failure. Return the unit for repair at an authorized service cen ter. Flashing Red and Green and T wo Razzberry Tones This indicates the scanner has experien ced a motor failure.
V ISUAL I NDICATORS There are a red LED and a green LED on t he scanner. When the scanner i s on, the flashing or station ary activity of the LEDs ind icates the st atus of the scan and scann er. No Red or Green LED There are two reasons w h y the LEDs will not be illuminated: 1.
S CANNER L ABE LS Each scanner has a label located on the botto m of the unit. This label contains inf or mation such as the m odel number, date of m anufacture, serial number, and approvals . T his label also notes th a t the device is a CDRH Class IIa laser product.
