1 Getting star ted W elcome to the Meridian F80! Y our F80 is a combined CD and D VD play er , FM/D AB receiv er , and sound system in a single con venient unit.
2 W elcome 1 Unpack the F80 Y our F80 is supplied with the following components: P ower cord. Rod antenna. D AB-optimised coil antenna. Wire antenna. F80 remote control. This User Guide . If any of these items are missing please contact your supplier .
3 3 Connect an antenna The F80 includes an internal antenna, and in areas of strong reception this will be sufficient to receive a good signal on the DAB and FM wav ebands.
4 4 Connect po wer Plug one end of the pow er cord supplied with the F80 into the pow er connector on the back panel. Connect the other end to a wall socket. • • 5 Listen to the r adio Press the Home key , mar ked . The Home menu will be displayed: Aux Adjust Radio Disc Press the key labelled Radio .
5 6 Play a CD Press the Home key , mar ked . The Home menu will be displayed: Aux Adjust Radio Disc Press the key labelled Disc . Inser t a CD in the slot, label upper most, and gently push it into the slot until it is drawn into the dr ive: The CD will star t playing automatically .

These change function depending on what you’ re doing, as shown by the labels on the bottom line of the displa y . 10 Gener al functions Changing the v olume and muting the sound Y ou can adjust the volume between 0dB and 99dB in precise steps of 1dB, where 9dB is equivalent to doubling the loudness. T o change the volume T ur n the volume knob to the right of the F80.

12 12 Connecting to the F80 This section shows how to connect exter nal devices to your F80. Connecting an antenna Connect up to two exter nal antennas for the radio to Antenna 1 or Antenna 2.
13 13 Connecting headphones or the optical output T o connect headphones Plug headphones (equipped with a 3.5mm mini jack plug) into the Optical Out/ Headphones socket. T o connect to the digital output Connect the Optical Out/Headphones socket to an optical input on a digital recorder or digital surround processor , using a mini optical cable.

15 Pla ying discs This chapter explains how to play discs, including audio CDs, D VDs, and CD-ROMs containing MP3/WMA f iles. When you inser t a disc it will star t playing immediately .

Each time you press the key the speed steps between 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X, and 32X, as shown at top right of the display . 20 Pla ying D VDs When you play a D VD three additional ro ws of functions allo w you to navigate the D VD menus and choose D VD options. T o see the additional D VD functions press . Displaying D VD menus D VDs gener ally provide a T op Menu, which provides access to the contents of the disc .
21 Selecting items on menus T o select a highlighted menu item Press Enter . T o return from a menu Press Return . This will exit from the menu without selecting an option.

23 Listening to the r adio This chapter explains how to use the F80 radio tuner , which pro vides D AB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), the FM wa veband, and AM (L W and MW).
24 Listening to D AB r adio T o see the r adio options press , Radio , follo wed by if you ha ve saved presets. T o select the DAB wav eband press Band until the top left of the displa y shows D AB . Selecting the band T o select the band Press Band .
25 Changing the displa y T o change the D AB information Press 2 . This steps through the following options: Normal displa y BBC Radio 2 ^ Station Band ` ( ) DAB |_ Station name (Long Ser vice Label) and signal strength indicator .
26 Using presets Y ou can sav e up to 16 preset stations across all bands so you can select them with a single key press. Press to display the preset names. When y ou ha ve defined at least one preset, the preset keys will be displayed fir st when you select the r adio.
27 On FM or AM it will be labelled with the frequency if no name is availab le: BBC Radio 2 34 1 88.90 ( ) DAB |_ The preset sav es the band, frequency , and any audio settings. Note : If you mov e location, you will need to resav e presets for stations that are on a different frequency in the new location.
28 Listening to FM or AM The F80 also pro vides the FM and AM wav ebands. Selecting the band T o select the band Press Band . The radio steps between the wavebands D AB, FM, and AM. The current band is shown at top left of the display . • T uning to a station On FM and AM you have the choice of T une or Step mode .
29 Audio T o change the audio setting On FM and AM you can change the audio setting for best quality . Press ( to display the second row of radio functions. Press Audio to step between the audio options. The current option is shown at top r ight of the display .

31 31 Setting up In most cases you will get superb results with your F80 without alter ing its settings from those initially supplied. This chapter explains ho w you can configure the F80 to suit your preferences, and to achieve the best possible sound.
32 Adjusting the clock T o set the time Press Clock to display the CLOCK menu. Press Time . The clock shows the cur rent time , and prompts you to adjust the hour s: 12:39:00 ^ Next ` Set Adjust hours ¬ TIME Press ` or ^ to set the hour s to the correct time .
33 Adjusting the location The second row of options on the AUDIO menu allow you to optimise the sound for the location of the F80, and adjust the stereo image width.
34 Setting up the F80 The SETUP menus allow you to configure your F80 to suit your preferences. T o display the SETUP menus press , Adjust , Setup . Radio The RADIO SETUP menu allows you to choose which antenna is used for each band, and choose which bands are active.
35 Disc The SETUP DISC menu allows you to set up the default aspect ratio for playing D VDs. Aspect ¬ SETUP DISC LB T o set the aspect ratio Press Aspect to specify the default aspect ratio as LB (letterbox 4:3), PS (Pan & Scan 4:3), or 16:9. • Aux The SETUP AUX menu allows you to set up the label for each of the auxiliar y inputs.

37 Outputs The SETUP OUTPUTS menu allows you to mute the speaker s when using the headphone output. Headphone ¬ SETUP OUTPUTS Mute Set Headphone to Mute to mute the speaker s when headphones are connected, or No Mute to leave the speaker s active when using the headphone output.
